With funding from Scottish Government and the National Lottery, we are driving the cultural, social and economic development of all aspects of the sector, through enhanced funding, services and support. FUNDING Screen Scotland provides funding to producers based in Scotland who are working in live-action, animation, documentary and broadcast content, to develop a range of feature film and TV projects that reflect Scotland’s culture, creativity and diversity. Funding is also available for projects where producers based outside Scotland are developing and producing projects with writing and/or directing talent based in Scotland, and that promote Scotland, Scottish talent, crews, locations and tourism, and also benefit the Scottish economy. Film Development and Production Fund Our £4million Film Development and Production Fund can consider applications for feature films that will be made in co-production with Scotland, where these involve Scottish based talent. For more information please see our funding guidance at: www.screen.scot | E: screen@creativescotland.com Production Growth Fund Our £2million Production Growth Fund can consider applications from companies based outside Scotland with projects that aim to grow Scotland’s screen production sector by creating employment opportunities for Scottish crews, encouraging the use of production facilities, and delivering a direct and significant economic benefit to Scotland. This is a selective fund which seeks to attract large scale productions and maximise spend in Scotland. Broadcast Content Fund The £3million Broadcast Content Fund can consider applications for broadcast content projects of all genres, including drama series, that will be made in co-production with Scotland. The fund will prioritise projects which have the potential to generate lasting benefits to build companies of scale, reflect or promote Scottish culture, creativity and diversity, as well as projects which offer significant opportunities to people currently under-represented in the screen sector. The film written co-written by Scottish writer Krysty Wilson-Cairns provided a significant opportunity for the creative and professional development of Scottish craft and technical talent, including trainee positions for new entrants to the industry. |9
Feature Film: Limbo DRAMA | 2020 | UK Director: Ben Sharrock Screenwriter: Ben Sharrock Producers: Irune Gurtubai, Angus Lamont Cast: Amir El-Masry, Vikash Bhai, Ola Erbiyi, Kwabena Ansah Limbo tells the story of refugees waiting on a fictional Scottish Island to be granted asylum. The plot focuses on Omar, a young Syrian musician who is burdened by the weight of his grandfather’s oud, a traditional stringed instrument, which he has carried all the way from his homeland. Production Company: Caravan Cinema/Crab Apple Films Sales: Protagonist Financiers: Screen Scotland, Film4 and BFI Screen Scotland Funding: Development and Production funding of £500,000 enabled the production to film entirely in the Outer Hebridean islands the Uists, one of Scotland’s most remote film locations. The film provided a significant opportunity for the creative and professional development of Scottish craft and technical, and produced a significant spend in the screen and wider economy in Scotland. | 11

Feature Film: Wise Blood DRAMA | 2020 | UK, Belgium Co-Directors: Tim Mielants & Bouli Lanners Screenwriter: Bouli Lanners Producer: barrycrerar, Versus Production and Prime Time Cast: Bouli Lanners, Michelle Fairley, Julian Glover and Clovis Cornillac Phil, a hardy Belgian man in his mid-fifties, lives and works in Northern Scotland, on the most remote island of the Outer Hebrides, the Isle of Lewis. One night, he has a stroke and loses his memory. Millie, also in her mid-fifties, a member of the Presbyterian community on the island for whom Phil works, is responsible for caring for him. She ends up admitting to Phil that they used to be secret lovers. Rekindling their old passion, Phil and Millie secretly become lovers again. While Phil happily rediscovers their love story and gets back to his normal life as a farmhand, Millie begins to dread the moment when Phil will regain his memory and find out that she lied to him. For 30-something Finnie, the daily grind of working in a fish factory and providing for his family has numbed him to the point where he can no longer be emotionally available to his wife and kids. Having taken on too much responsibility too soon, the pain of remembering himself as an arrogant, carefree teen who spent his nights racing cars through the streets is just too great. He borrows his son Kid’s car for an after dark joyride, one that might lead to a new understanding of himself- or might cost him everything.
