Welcome to ‘Wish you were here’ Technically Brilliant’s sixth show in Warrington. Firstly, thank you for your continued support, if you’re new, well done for finding us. Technically Brilliant is a ‘not for profit’ company, we reinvest any profits into the upkeep and enhancement of the gallery and workshops. We are completely independent and self funded, the only support we receive is from Golden Square and we earn that by bringing new people to the shopping centre.... so please tell you friends ;) We choose work primarily from local artists, but we do occasionally select pieces from artists from further away, if we feel it’s beneficial for local artists to see and/or the artist has some connection with the area. In the 20 months Technically Brilliant has existed in Warrington, we have selected the work of three artists that have gone on to be shortlisted by The Royal Academy of Art, for their famous Summer Exhibition. We like to think this means we choose really good art to show. We encourage people to visit and take part as much as possible. Selection is a very difficult task and we have limited space. In this show the number of entries and standard of work was staggering, unfortunately this means we have to turn down over 50% of entries. If you were unlucky this time, we would like to thank you and hope you will enter new pieces in future. In fact it is vital that everybody keeps sending in work to each open call. They are advertised on social media for approximately 4 weeks, so please look out for them and have a go. We sell a lot of art, we have shipped to the other side of the world, we can deliver and we do almost everything we can to benefit the artists we represent. Jo and myself are here six days per week, we absolutely love this place. We have some volunteers who help share the load, we can all talk about the exhibits enthusiastically for far too long, sorry about that. Enjoy your visit. Matt George & Jo Bramham-Smith Directors
Alan Snape Camels, unusual creatures but interesting in shape , with large feet long legs and good water storage to stop them getting the hump. The letter “N” is a stand alone piece evoking seaside memories of Southwold . Alice Corby I want more than anything for figurative art to be more fun, in both my pottery and painting. Alina Buzea Nature surprises me with it’s perfect wildness and beauty. Photography helps me to bring out more of its character through capturing all many of its visible-to-eye details. I enjoy the uncertainty of film photography combined with double exposure technique, it’s something that you can’t reproduce and you don’t really know how it looks when you take the shot. Amanda McIntyre I recently got round to drawing what I like the most.. “The Ladies” these along with all my other drawings are done in graphite pencil on Bristol board, I hope you like them and I’ve done them justice... I’m currently working on a new collection, these ones maybe a little riskier!
Andrea Sadler Andrea Sadler is an artist based in Northwich who is influenced by the local industry and landscape of the area and the sense of place or felling a building or structure can give. Andrea graduated in Fine Art and specialised in Printmaking, where surface and marks are quintessential elements of a piece. This is often the starting point for her painting where the structure evolves from the surface. Andy Neal Ambiguity of images is what I was trying to paint. What do we see when we look at an image, do we see what we want to see? Is the image truth or just a mark of our own perception of the world? … or maybe I was just painting faces with no motive at all. . Ann-Marie Murgatroyd I am a contemporary abstract artist. My work is constantly evolving using layers of acrylics and mixed media. I am mainly inspired by the colours and textures of the natural landscape. Caroline Benzies A different view of the architecture of Liverpool. Always experimenting and pushing the boundaries of digital photography, lead me to create a single image built from layers of individual images. My aim is to show the viewer something familiar, in an unfamiliar way.

The dunes and woodlands of the Sefton Coast and the hills of the Lakes and Snowdonia are my most frequent landscapes. All lamps are PAT tested. Chris Rose My connection and obsession with toys has been a constant throughout my like. I collected toys on and off since I was six years old and I always loved imagining the ‘backstories’ of characters, making up my own tales for them. I hope that my photos convey these ideas, be it by re-living or reconnecting with these childhood memories, or even just by bringing a smile to your face. Chris Stables I am an internationally selling Manchester artist. My work is mostly abstract, inspired by life experiences. I love exploring shape, colour and texture. I use a playful approach, working on a series so that each one informs the next, gradually building layers to create depth, leaving glimpses of what lies beneath. I use painting as a meditation practice - being here.
Christina Hamilton I have painted since a child, my granny taking me regularly to Woolworths for pens and paper. Emma Saunders I am a studio artist at Cross Street Arts in Standish, Wigan, I enjoy working in a range of media including ceramics and 3D, Oils and Acrylics and print. My lino triptych is inspired by my love of witchcraft and the occult and the spells you could use to return a lost loved one. Faye Richardson-Hignett With this series of ceramic vessels I used the coil building method, focusing on the quality of repetitive action of layer on layer to gradually create the form. I was also thinking about the idea of trace line and scaring, how something “imperfect” can be what adds beautiful detail. Ffion Evans I am a contemporary Welsh textile artist with a multidisciplinary and experimental approach to my work. My practice highlights the importance of play and touch in order to support and bring happiness to people through interaction. Hannah Chippendale I am a recent Graduate from Leeds Arts University. My most recent work titled ‘Give Your Head a Wobble’ is in honour of my mother who is no longer with us. Inspired by this beautiful and diverse environment, my work is, at it’s core, an exploration into the emotionality of land, seas, and skies of our British Isles.
Jako I am a painter in progress. Jane Douglas My art evolved from Chinese single stroke water colour painting into knife painting in oils. Based on this style of painting, the experience of dragging oil colours through a artwork uniquely captures the emotional impact of the natural world. I am particularly inspired by the hues and contrasts in shadows and reflections. Jane Fraser I am a painter based in Altrincham. My main inspiration is the landscape, both rural and urban, For ‘wish you were here’ I picked two landscapes that are very dear to me, and much missed when we couldn’t get there - the fishing villages of the North Yorkshire Coast, and the Lake District. Sketches from these places were a wonderful source of inspiration in 2020, and I will be happy to be back in 2021. Jean Haigh I love working with colour and patter,; using acrylics, watercolour or pastels. My subjects range from nature, places abroad that I have sketched , and the diffferent ways of interpreting both from photographs. Using acrylics, printing and oil pastels to make marks, I try to have emotion in my paintings. Jo Degenhart As an Artist and Printmaker, I enjoy exploring our relationship with nature, telling the story of moments I have experienced in the wilderness. In building layers of ink and using mark-making, I hope to create a rich representation of these precious memories that allow you to escape to a more peaceful place with me.

Keith Walsh I create art in a range of mediums including charcoal, paint and printing. I enjoy using materials that I am not quite in control of. I feel this gives the work a sense of spontaneity and movement. Ultimately the art I make is a result of informed play.
