WISH YOU WERE HERE Technically Brilliant Gallery Golden Square, Warrington
Welcome to ‘Wish you were here’ Technically Brilliant’s sixth show in Warrington.
Firstly, thank you for your continued support, if you’re new, well done for finding
us. Technically Brilliant is a ‘not for profit’ company, we reinvest any profits into
the upkeep and enhancement of the gallery and workshops. We are completely
independent and self funded, the only support we receive is from Golden Square
and we earn that by bringing new people to the shopping centre.... so please tell
you friends ;)

We choose work primarily from local artists, but we do occasionally select pieces
from artists from further away, if we feel it’s beneficial for local artists to see and/or
the artist has some connection with the area.

In the 20 months Technically Brilliant has existed in Warrington, we have selected
the work of three artists that have gone on to be shortlisted by The Royal Academy
of Art, for their famous Summer Exhibition. We like to think this means we choose
really good art to show. We encourage people to visit and take part as much as
possible. Selection is a very difficult task and we have limited space. In this show the
number of entries and standard of work was staggering, unfortunately this means
we have to turn down over 50% of entries. If you were unlucky this time, we would
like to thank you and hope you will enter new pieces in future. In fact it is vital that
everybody keeps sending in work to each open call. They are advertised on social
media for approximately 4 weeks, so please look out for them and have a go.

We sell a lot of art, we have shipped to the other side of the world, we can deliver
and we do almost everything we can to benefit the artists we represent. Jo and
myself are here six days per week, we absolutely love this place. We have some
volunteers who help share the load, we can all talk about the exhibits enthusiastically
for far too long, sorry about that. Enjoy your visit.

Camels, unusual creatures but interesting in shape , with
large feet long legs and good water storage to stop
them getting the hump. The letter “N” is a stand alone
piece evoking seaside memories of Southwold .

Alice Corby

I want more than anything for figurative art to be more
fun, in both my pottery and painting.

Alina Buzea

Nature surprises me with it’s perfect wildness and beauty.
Photography helps me to bring out more of its character
through capturing all many of its visible-to-eye details. I
enjoy the uncertainty of film photography combined with
double exposure technique, it’s something that you can’t
reproduce and you don’t really know how it looks when
you take the shot.

Amanda McIntyre

I recently got round to drawing what I like the most..
“The Ladies” these along with all my other drawings are
done in graphite pencil on Bristol board, I hope you like
them and I’ve done them justice... I’m currently working
on a new collection, these ones maybe a little riskier!
Andrea Sadler

Andrea Sadler is an artist based in Northwich who is
influenced by the local industry and landscape of the
area and the sense of place or felling a building or
structure can give. Andrea graduated in Fine Art and
specialised in Printmaking, where surface and marks
are quintessential elements of a piece. This is often
the starting point for her painting where the structure
evolves from the surface.

Andy Neal

Ambiguity of images is what I was trying to paint. What
do we see when we look at an image, do we see what we
want to see? Is the image truth or just a mark of our own
perception of the world? … or maybe I was just painting
faces with no motive at all. .

Ann-Marie Murgatroyd

I am a contemporary abstract artist. My work is
constantly evolving using layers of acrylics and mixed
media. I am mainly inspired by the colours and textures
of the natural landscape.

Caroline Benzies

A different view of the architecture of Liverpool. Always
experimenting and pushing the boundaries of digital
photography, lead me to create a single image built from
layers of individual images. My aim is to show the viewer
something familiar, in an unfamiliar way.
Cathryn Houlton

Hi my names Cath and I’m an artist from Liverpool.I love
to paint, draw and sculpt.I started my art journey March
2020,I fell in love with it and haven’t put my brushes
down since.

Chris Hughes

I make stoneware pots and draw in soft pastels and
usually it is landscape that features in the pots and
drawings, often in a semi-abstract style. The dunes and
woodlands of the Sefton Coast and the hills of the Lakes
and Snowdonia are my most frequent landscapes. All
lamps are PAT tested.

Chris Rose

My connection and obsession with toys has been a
constant throughout my like. I collected toys on and off
since I was six years old and I always loved imagining the
‘backstories’ of characters, making up my own tales for
them. I hope that my photos convey these ideas, be it by
re-living or reconnecting with these childhood memories,
or even just by bringing a smile to your face.

Chris Stables

I am an internationally selling Manchester artist. My
work is mostly abstract, inspired by life experiences. I
love exploring shape, colour and texture. I use a playful
approach, working on a series so that each one informs
the next, gradually building layers to create depth,
leaving glimpses of what lies beneath. I use painting as a
meditation practice - being here.
Christina Hamilton

I have painted since a child, my granny taking me
regularly to Woolworths for pens and paper. I went on
to art collage , married had 3 beautiful sons now grown
up with their own families . I started painting again about
ten years ago, mainly as a hobby and I’ve used many
forms of media but failed miserably doing watercolours!

Christine Conreen

Hello my name is Christine Conreen. Painting brings me
such a lot of pleasure which I hope to share with you
with my paintings.

Christopher Shaw

My artwork isn’t governed by one particular subject
matter or thing. It is a reflection of my life past and
present, feelings about the world and my personal
experience. My practice is constantly evolving and has
become as unpredictable as life.

Dana Constable

My art is a peek into moments and images that capture
my imagination. I work in pencils, pastels and paint.
Dave Percival

Dave Percival, is a Warrington Artist currently exhibiting
at Goose Green Gallery in Altrincham. Dave works in
watercolour and pastel. The paintings submitted for
this exhibition are all pastels on black paper which Dave
uses to good effect to achieve a chiaroscuro effect of
contrasting light and shadow.

Deborah Connell

Deborah is a Warrington born Artist. She has a love of
landscape, nature, sunsets and seascapes. Deborah’s
inspiration is born from the love of the beauty
surrounding her and is never short of that in the
North West. Her mainly used medium is Pastels and
Watercolour.

Dean Witham

I’m a self taught artist based in Warrington. After being
made redundant from my dream job and the isolation
of lockdown I had found the need to revisit and express
my feelings in art. Acrylic painting with palette knives,
brushes and a passion for colour in the modern home
evoked much needed enjoyment, exploration and
mindfulness.

Dorothy Bramham

Dorothy has been painting and creating most of her life.
She uses many mediums and styles as seen in the work
she has in the exhibition. She particularly loves vibrant
colour and this is often reflected ib her work. Her work is
influenced by the places she visits and sees, and is ever
changing and varied.
Emma Saunders

I am a studio artist at Cross Street Arts in Standish,
Wigan, I enjoy working in a range of media including
ceramics and 3D, Oils and Acrylics and print. My lino
triptych is inspired by my love of witchcraft and the
occult and the spells you could use to return a lost loved
one.

Faye Richardson-Hignett

With this series of ceramic vessels I used the coil building
method, focusing on the quality of repetitive action of
layer on layer to gradually create the form.
I was also thinking about the idea of trace line and
scaring, how something “imperfect” can be what adds
beautiful detail.

Ffion Evans

I am a contemporary Welsh textile artist with a
multidisciplinary and experimental approach to my
work. My practice highlights the importance of play and
touch in order to support and bring happiness to people
through interaction. I am inspired by the collective
custom of sharing stories and memories with each other
throughout life, and how this impacts on wellbeing.

Gaynor Green

Gaynor Green is a Lancashire based artist. She has
explored different styles and media in her work over the
years. Her source of inspiration for her recent work is
humour and holidays..
Geraldine Snape

Inspiration after visiting the Medici buildings in Florence
and seeing the amazing Michelangelo sculptures...wish
you were here!
And again priviledged to be asked to join a group of
artists to take part in a workshop drawing the acts and
acrobats in The Cuban Circus. Wish you were here!

Hannah Chippendale

I am a recent Graduate from Leeds Arts University. My
most recent work titled ‘Give Your Head a Wobble’ is
in honour of my mother who is no longer with us. The
northern phrased commonly used by her offered a fresh
perspective. It embodies the comfort and reassurance
she gave me as a child and i hope it speaks volumes.

Hayley Jeffers

I have been exploring working with acrylics and multiple
layers to create depth in my work. I work intuitively
responding to initial marks and shapes to create semi
abstract landscapes of places that i have an emotional
connection with. My latest works have been inspired by
textures, decay and grafitti.

Jacqui Bassett

I am an oil and cold wax painter based in the English
Lake District. Inspired by this beautiful and diverse
environment, my work is, at it’s core, an exploration into
the emotionality of land, seas, and skies of our British
Isles.
Jako

I am a painter in progress.

Jane Douglas

My art evolved from Chinese single stroke water colour
painting into knife painting in oils. Based on this style of
painting, the experience of dragging oil colours through
a artwork uniquely captures the emotional impact of the
natural world. I am particularly inspired by the hues and
contrasts in shadows and reflections.

Jane Fraser

I am a painter based in Altrincham. My main inspiration
is the landscape, both rural and urban, For ‘wish you
were here’ I picked two landscapes that are very dear
to me, and much missed when we couldn’t get there
- the fishing villages of the North Yorkshire Coast, and
the Lake District. Sketches from these places were a
wonderful source of inspiration in 2020, and I will be
happy to be back in 2021.

Janet Howkins

I am a mixed media memorial artist based in Creative
Spin Studios, Leigh Spinners Mill. My work is largely
nature-inspired using botanicals collected from areas
walked or significant moments. My latest work is a
collection of time capsules from significant points during
lockdown, every piece being an encapsulated memory
from the experience.
Janice Lazzarich

My abstract work is inspired by my memories and my
relationships with people and places throughout my
life. This piece is about ‘My African Sun’ and the many
colours associated with the intense brightness of the
light and the depth of the darkness that is felt deeply in
my memory of my African homeland.

Jean Haigh

I love working with colour and patter,; using acrylics,
watercolour or pastels.
My subjects range from nature, places abroad that I have
sketched , and the diffferent ways of interpreting both
from photographs.

Jo Bramham-Smith

My work is all about colour, I like to abstract something
I’ve seen or been moved by and create a painting using
colour and marks expressing more than the scene.
Using acrylics, printing and oil pastels to make marks, I
try to have emotion in my paintings.

Jo Degenhart

As an Artist and Printmaker, I enjoy exploring our
relationship with nature, telling the story of moments I
have experienced in the wilderness.

In building layers of ink and using mark-making, I
hope to create a rich representation of these precious
memories that allow you to escape to a more peaceful
place with me.
John Dempsey

My artwork always begins with an in situ sketch , often
in an urban setting using line and wash, sometimes
developed into an oil, acrylic or mixed media artwork. I
try to capture a moment in time, an atmosphere of what
I see before me.

Judith Booth

A retired Warrington GP finding a new lease of life as an
artist. Classically trained at Realist Academy Walton Hall.
She specializes in commissioned portraiture but finds joy
in other subjects. Her work is mainly in oils with a realist
style and timeless manner.

June Hamilton Hall

It’s exciting to be invited to exhibit again at TB.

I am at my happiest with a paintbrush in my hand. I work
in a variety of mediums, whether painting landscapes,
cityscapes, seascapes, flowers and even rusty old locks.

I hope I can provide you with a little of my joy.

Justin P Smith

I take my influences from natural elements and figurative
structures and love to experiment by abstracting them
in away in which makes them both indeterminate and
familiar at the same time.
Karen Louise Singleton

I paint to escape. I don’t know where I will end up
sometimes. I just have to trust the process and my
imagination. Choosing colours creates a definite feeling.
My inspiration is always outside amongst nature. I love
watching sunsets and listening to the rhythm of the sea.
It’s good for the soul and its absolutely free.

Kathleen McAvoy

Glass when coloured with white can awalys take me back
to being at the beach looking for interesting rocks and
pebbles.

Katie Patel

Art is a journey into unknown territory. I search out
images with a dynamic emotional resonance and paint
intuitively from those visual starting points. Exploration
of colour and contrast is central to my work in terms
of their vitality and impact. Acrylics appeal to me,
particularly their boldness and decisive finish.

Keith Walsh

I create art in a range of mediums including charcoal,
paint and printing. I enjoy using materials that I am not
quite in control of. I feel this gives the work a sense of
spontaneity and movement. Ultimately the art I make is a
result of informed play.
Laura Gibbons

Nature is essential to my creative thinking, I long to
be surrounded by towering trees and overwhelmed by
the timeless qualities of the forest and the wildlife that
inhabits it. My love of nature and interest in mythology
infuses my art with a characteristic glow and invites you
to take a glance into the ethereal beauty of the natural
world.

Leslie Robinson

This will be the second time I have submitted to work to
Technically Brilliant - what a fantastic opportunity. For
this exhibition I have included work that still reflects my
love of bold and abstracted colour.

Louise Brandwood Price

Lancashire born contemporary mixed media artist
and surface pattern designer. Taking inspiration from
distressed and dilapidated flora and fauna found in life
and its everyday items.
Re-igniting, recycling and giving new life combining
paintwork, embroidery, collage and stitch I create unique
art and bespoke commissioned pieces’

Louise Todd

My work is abstract in style and I am frequently drawn
to paint florals. Nature and all of it’s organic forms and
colours inspire me.
Although I sometimes begin by using a photograph as
an initial reference, I largely work intuitively allowing
myself to respond to the piece as it evolves, rather than
trying to achieve a predetermined outcome.
Marian Ivancak

Hand carved picture of duny . Carved in accoya solid
wood and finished with a natural clear oil.

Mary Atherton

Although I am primarily a landscape painter I am
open to anything that excites me! I work on the basis
of ‘what would happen if I did this ?’ As a result my
work is constantly evolving, often leading me towards
abstraction. I try to express my feelings through my
paintings.

Matt George

I mostly paint abstract figurative pieces. Usually, I’m
inspired by the news or a memory. Often the paintings
allow me to communicate something I’m too afraid to
say or something I can’t do anything about.

Michael Grice

Patricia Lee

Glass is an exquisite medium to work with. It has a
unique ability to play with the light; creating beautiful
and mesmerising effects. I’m constantly learning new
ways of working with glass and experimenting with new
ideas.
I grew up by the sea. I’m drawn to its vastness and the
feel of the sand beneath my feet. I could sit all day and
just watch the waves. Wish you were here?

Paul Boczek (BOZ)

Just enjoying myself, taking images and changing them
to create something that will hopefully make people take
a second look, create conversation or just put a smile
on their faces.. Whilst trying my upmost not to offend
anyone..

Paul Ellams

I create dynamic and unique 3D paintings on wood to
bring my artworks to life when viewed. My paintings are
created with an eclectic mix of methods including Acrylic
Brushwork,Airbrushing,Glazing and Wood Working.

Paul Price

Since taking up art again five years ago, I have come
to realise that painting is a challenge; striving for your
own idea of perfection. I try, not always successfully,
to produce something fresh and new; unexpected. The
beauty of the challenge is the roller coaster ride we
experience in trying to fulfil our goals.
Pauline Wiltshire

`Pauline wiltshire is a mixed media artist, who enjoys
using handmade papers, acrylics, oil pastels and charcoal
mainly, but any medium can be utilised. The images
chosen, offen come from her imagination and are the
result of extensive drawing practice, which she believes
is vital to her art. She paints instinctively, enjoying the
process and physicality of the mediums selected.

Pedro Pontes

My work deals with displacement. Searching solidity,
finding none; the future is in the past. I am displaced.
Maybe you are displaced too.

Ray Banton

I am a borne again artist in Lymm who has never
exhibited before, but having gained my GCE in Advanced
Level Art in 1959 I then worked in industry for 53 years

Rebecca Yoxall

Throughout my life I have always had a brush in my hand
and felt this need to move paint colours on a surface.
Like an unquenchable thirst this desire is always there
and so I create and I hope that the things I produce
connect me to my fellow humans in a way that cannot be
spoken in words.

Ri Howard

My aim has been to capture the true image of the city of
Manchester through drawing, painting and observation.
Due to this project taking place in winter, I was working
with quite a cold and gloomy atmosphere in the city,
which I wanted to portray in my work.

Rob Lenihan

Condensing his background in street art, classical art
practice, poetry, and storytelling into small figurative
sculptures and paintings, Rob Lenihan attempts to
capture the transition between youth and adulthood.
Particularly focusing on the challenges faced when
occupying both worlds simultaneously.

Roger Coasby

My main interest is in landscapes and how nature
interacts with human activity. I use a lot of texture in
my paintings and I work in both acrylic and watercolour
mediums. I have always done sketching, ceramics, model
making and drawing, but only took up painting in 2012
after I retired from full time employment
Sarah Morley

I paint and draw expressively generally inspired by the
emotional memory of something I have observed. This
piece was inspired by the one evening I spent camping at
John O’ Groats, before catching the ferry to The Orkney
Islands the following day. The work is a mixed media
piece with oil pigment and some collage.

Shona Wright

Having previously sold art pieces. I have, again provided
another cross section of my art work for the “Wish You

myself into a particular style, and I love to experiment
with colour, form, size and compositions.

Silverwood

Our mission is to create bold, beautiful, and timeless
jewellery for the modern man and woman who value
style and individuality as much as sustainable, ethical

My inspiration comes from childhood memories and
emotions. My work mainly consist of bright colours
which comes from childrens objects and drawings. I work
on medium to large scale using mixed media on canvas.
Stephanie Whittaker

Abstract piece created during a hot Summer’s day.
There is a warmth to the bright colours reminiscent
of deckchairs, buckets and spades. The colours in the
background are of the sky before the thunderstorm
which breaks the heat of the day.

with a more dynamic line style.
