EVENTS FOR BUSINESS AND SCHOOLS The Art of Being Brilliant 22nd February 2018 Matinee Performance at 9:00 am - 12.00 pm Tickets from £25 Working in partnership: TDA Business and the Palace Theatre bring you The Art of Being Brilliant with Andy Cope The craziness We live in a manic society where most people’s lives are on permanent fast-forward. The modern workplace is typified by a never ending regime of restructures and budget cuts. Uncertainty prevails. Customer expectations are rising. Legislation is tightening. You are probably going to be audited or inspected one day soon. Outside of work there are family pressures. And society. Trump. Brexit. Oh, and don’t forget the weather! The antidote ‘The Art of Being Brilliant’ provides an antidote to the crazy world that typifies modern Britain. This workshop uses cutting edge research to explore how you can be you, brilliantly. The aim is to share some of the ‘secrets’ of Positive Psychology, focusing on learning new habits of thinking and behaviour that will sustain personal ‘brilliance’. It is about the ‘whole you’ and, as such, is applicable in and out of work. The content is taken from the latest research into positive psychology, wellbeing, flourishing and emotional contagion. Our team calls it ‘the science of the bleedin’ obvious’… yet if it’s so obvious, why are so few people doing it? The point? Too many people are counting down to the weekend, accidentally wishing their life away. ‘The Art of Being Brilliant’ is a big wake-up call. We figure there’s a huge difference between ‘being alive’ and ‘living’ – if you decide to go for it, your positivity ripples out into your workplace and family. The aim therefore is to challenge current habits and ways of thinking, to re-energise and enthuse staff for the challenges that lie ahead. In plain simple English, we want this to be the best training you have ever had. Whisper it quietly, but it might even change your life?

SPECIAL SCHOOLS OFFER all tickets £5 and TEACHERS go FREE. The chances are you’ve sussed the system. Let me guess: work reasonably hard (but not too hard), turn up (most of the time) and hit those pesky homework deadlines (sometimes). In short, you will have learned to fit in. But long-term, you need to stand out. So it’s time to step up. A good academic grounding is half the story. Learning to shine is just as important. The modern world is fast and exhausting. Look around, what do you see? If you’re not careful, you can inhabit ZombieLand – a world in which too many people are stuck in a loop of counting down to the weekend, accidentally wishing their life away. ‘The Art of Being Brilliant’ is a big wake-up call. We figure there’s a huge difference between ‘being alive’ and ‘living’ – if you decide to go for it, your positivity ripples out into your friends, family and future workplace. The aim therefore is to challenge current habits and ways of thinking, to re-energise and enthuse you for the challenges that lie ahead. Content 1. Introduction to positive psychology 2. How to be a modern-day superhero 3. Finding your purpose 4. How to stand out on a cold wet Monday morning 5. Insight into the smallest thing you can do that will have the biggest impact on your life

Located in Palace Avenue Gardens A warm welcome on behalf of The Friends of the Palace Theatre It was at 7 o’clock on Friday 12th September 1890 when the crowds gathered for the grand opening night of Paignton’s Public Hall. For over a century, The Paignton Public Hall, now known as the Palace Theatre, has entertained many thousands of residents and visitors. During the Second World War the building became the Garrison Theatre where thousands of American Troops were entertained by stars which may well have included Glen Miller, Anna Neagle and some say Bing Crosby! The Palace Theatre, like so many in the country, has weathered various difficult times through the years. In 2005, Torbay Council tasked the community to raise £80,000 as a contribution towards refurbishing the theatre to include the reconstruction of the auditorium. Through ‘The Friends of the Palace Theatre’, £100,000 was raised. With the help of English Heritage, Torbay Council and many others, over £933,000 was spent refurbishing the venue to bring it into the 21st century. The Friends group continues to support the theatre by providing finance to improve the fabric of the building and stage equipment including the re-carpeting of the foyer and stairs. Many local groups and societies use this valuable building including: Paignton Pantomime Productions, Wonder Productions, The Bijou Theatre Productions, Doorstep Arts, The Torbay Folk Orchestra, The Robert Owen Foundation and South West of England Festival. On leaving the venue, you might see our members collecting at the door. If you are able, please give generously to keep theatre alive in Paignton. Thank you. Join us at the theatre every second Saturday of the month 10.30am - midday for a COFFEE AND A CHAT and every first Thursday in the month at 2pm for BINGO!
