If interested, please call Verdun at 519-444-8551. FROM THE EDITOR I hope everyone is enjoying the summer weather, as brief as it may be! Many farmers are finally seeing the end of plant- ing, and are now hoping for some good haying weather. How many remember those scorching summer days when, years ago, hay was loaded by hand on wagon, lifted up to the mow with a huge hay fork, and mowed by people sweating at the top of the barn. I can remember the person on the wagon putting the huge fork into the hay, and my job was to drive the horse down the gangway, pulling the fork load of hay into the mow, where others were waiting to level the load in the mow. The men would always be ready for a cold drink of water, brought out by the kids, before the next load. Then we went and baled hay, with guys in the mow stacking the bales that were sent up the bale elevator from the wag- on. And if you did not get the bale straight on the elevator, the bale would fall to the floor! I can remember the relief August 12 - 16 From 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. when it was announced “this is the last load!”!
