pet of the month Where/why did you get your pet? We adopted her from Delaware Valley Golden Retriever Rescue (DVGRR) in April 2020. After losing our sheepadoodle in November 2019, we were very sad. We began looking to rescue a dog in January and were very excited to get the call in the beginning of quarantine. Harper instantly became a member of our family. Is there a story behind its name? Not really. We had been trying to adopt a male so we didn’t have a female name when she was offered to us. We had to scramble and one of my kids came up with Harper. It suited her and it stuck. Anything special or unusual about them (talents/quirks)? Even though she prefers to have another dog or a human to play with her, she is able to entertain herself in our backyard. She takes a tennis ball in her mouth, tosses it a few feet and chases it. It is Meet very funny to watch. Harper What do you like best about your pet? Harper is extremely affectionate and sweet. She was a little shy when we got her, but she has become very outgoing and comfortable. We just love her! Any funny stories? FAMILY Harper loves to watch tv especially when there are Cynthia, Jonathan, Chloe MEMBER any animals on the screen. It is amazing that she is and Jake Root NAMES paying attention. It is a wonderful place to work, and I am grateful to be a part of the DRG family. Why do your buyers want to buy in Westfield? (Alyssa Stanek) My buyers are looking for a town with excellent schools, a bustling downtown, a good commute to NYC for whenever that is necessary, and a nice sense of community. They are mostly urbanites coming here and want to feel the transition is an easy one, and not a shock...Westfield is all those things, and a lot more! Your client is selling their house...what advice you would give? (Rose Hughes) LET US BUILD your dream home or renovate what you already call home My #1 piece of advice is to consult with a professional stager. The professional stager takes Rose Hughes • 908-403-5145 the emotional element out of the equation, and helps us get the best price for your home. rose@davidrealtygroup.com They have the experience to know what will work the best for your home, and the resources and time to implement that vision. This process may range from decluttering and packing up personal items to painting and using their furnishings, but it will help show your home at its best in the eye of today’s buyer and give it the WOW factor that can push potential buyers to make their final decision. What makes Westfield different from other towns? (Jaynie Carlucci) In this extended sellers’ market with record low inventory, Westfield has become even more favored than other NJ suburbs because of its walkable downtown, excellent schools, broad demographics and well known community feel. Westfield compares favorably in average sales price with the average home selling for $885,000 compared with towns like Summit and Short Hills/Millburn where average homes sales were $990,000 and $1.34 million in Jaynie Carlucci • 908-873-7306 theNJREboss@gmail.com January. For this reason, agents from all over the state are bringing their buyers to Westfield in the hopes of finding a home. What does Westfield offer for families moving in with children? (Stephanie Mattielli) For me, I always knew Westfield was going to be my home. My husband grew up here and from the moment we met, he always spoke about the great experience he had here in Westfield. From the school system to the community and the lifelong friends he made, Westfield sounded like the perfect place to raise my family. I’m here for 15 years and the town has offered us all the experience I could ever ask…great schools, activities for my kids, friends and a supportive community. We enjoy everything from Addam’s Fest to jazz nights in the summer. It’s a wonderful town to call home! CONNECTING YOUR COMMUNITY APRIL 2021 “PARKINSON’S TOOK AWAY MY FREEDOM. DBS GAVE IT BACK.” C H R I S T I N E ’ S S T O R Y . There was no time off from my Parkinson’s. Medication no longer controlled my tremors and stiffness. I had trouble walking and I was afraid to lift my granddaughters. My neurologist at the Atlantic Neuroscience Institute at Overlook Medical Center gave me hope. She said that I was a great candidate for Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS), which involves placing electrodes in the brain to stimulate areas that control motor functions. A small implanted device – like a pacemaker – delivers the electrical currents. My tremors stopped, I take less medication and I’m back to work, back to being a grandmother, back to being me.
