DEFINING ‘LIVABILITY’ IN THE MODERN URBAN ENVIRONMENT Our quest for comfort, safety and convenience remains constant, but a rapidly evolving world compels us to embrace new ideas and rediscover old ones. L ivability can mean many things to many people these days, but the underlying common aspira- tion to live in comfort, safety and convenience is both universal and timeless. In the context of a rapidly urbanising world, however, our view of an ideal living environment is evolving in tandem with a reprioritisation of needs. Time, space and interaction are probably the greatest casualties of urban pressure, but today we seem determined to regain lost ground by reassessing the way we shape our surroundings and how we choose to live. Interestingly, in embracing new lifestyle enhancing concepts and solutions, we are also re-establishing a spirit that once defined successful communities of the past. Contemporary architects and city planners have caught on to this revival of urban ideology, and they are now linking livability to factors that define an urban environment as “alive”. CHERISHING TRADITION WHILE EMBRACING THE FUTURE Ushering-in the Lunar New Year in vibrant colour and meaningful tradition at BÖN Estates Gallery with the symbolic significance of Bamboo, Plum Blossom and Pussy Willow. A s craftsmen of better living stand- ards, BÖN Estates has always pursued the creation of innova- tive and lifestyle environments with the guidance of timeless wisdom, adopt- ing principles and values that have long influenced our definition of harmony and comfort in living spaces. In fact, the “BÖN” in our name reflects exactly that; it pays tribute to ancient philosophies about the harmony between natural elements and our living space, enriching the way we interact with our habitat. For us, it is possible to pioneer a path to the future without leaving behind the traditions that best define us. Candle Fortune Reading That spirit of harmony between old and new took centre stage at our recent celebration of the Lunar New Year on February 9th, when our ultra-modern BÖN Estates Gallery in Bangsar paid tribute to the deep symbolic traditions of Chinese culture with contempo- rary flair, energy and fun. This year’s celebrations centred around the traditional significance of Bamboo, Plum Blossom and pussy willow, and the positive influence these natural elements represent as we ushered in a new beginning with the Year of the Rat. 06 BÖN ESTATES . FEASTS AND FESTIVITIES ROUND OFF THE YEAR At BÖN Estates we organise events that serve as opportunities to bond and build a network of individuals who share common values and principles that help shape the lifestyle ideology behind the spaces we curate. JAPANESE DELIGHT AT SUSHI SUMMIT SEPTEMBER 8, 2019 In September last year, the BÖN Estates Gallery hosted an exclusive culinary event in collaboration with APW Bangsar and Sushi Summit KL. The event brought together master sushi chefs of multi-cultur- al backgrounds from all corners of the world, who culminated at the gallery to showcase their culinary skills in the art of sushi making. Only the highest quality ingredients were featured at the feast, from Tokyo as well as other Japanese cities. Among the renowned attendees were Chef Toshihide Terado (Sushi Azabu), Chef Eddie Ng (EDJU), Chef Makoto Saito Sam (Sushi Hibiki), Bartender Osamu Kinugawa (Bar Shake). SPENDING X’MAS WITH THE FOLKS DECEMBER 18, 2019 There’s no better way to end the year than with a feast. Bring- ing the BÖN Estate family together for Christmas, the compa- ny enjoyed a yuletide dinner at the One World Hotel in Bandar Utama. The occasion provided staff members some much-needed downtime after a hectic year, offering the perfect opportunity to bond with colleagues from various departments and share some end-of-year cheer. Naturally, as it was Christmas, there was a gift exchange session with an added twist thrown in – staff members had to first guess who their secret Santa was.
