February 16, 2021, Issue 743 Welcome To The Clubhouse The newest social media platform at the center of conversation – literally – is Clubhouse, an invite- and audio-only app still in beta testing but growing exponentially each day. Founded in 2020 in Silicon Valley, and still only available to iPhone users, Clubhouse has grown from approximately 3,500 members in December to more than six million currently. Early adopters have included those in the tech industry, celebrities – including Oprah and Ashton Kutcher – and music industry professionals. Country Aircheck spoke to a few heavy users for their take on the platform’s relevance to country music and Country radio. February 16, 2021 Page 15 Money On My Mind: While interest in Clubhouse is exploding, the monetization question has not yet been answered. Cohen points to an upcoming tipping feature for performers. Additionally, Midwest/ Nashville Dir./Social Media Juliana Wright, whose background includes digital sales and marketing for multi-format clusters, foresees multiple revenue sources. Juliana Wright “Once this opens to the public across all operating systems, there will be many opportunities to monetize the platform,” she says. “Content and connection will be the base of that, and from there, marketing can be packaged around brand loyalty or woven into experiential marketing efforts, sponsorships and other non-traditional revenue streams.” Wright notes that younger demos are utilizing the platform for networking and professional development, as opposed to the entertainment found on platforms like Instagram and TikTok. Follow The Leaders: Will Clubhouse – something akin to an audio-only version of the original AOL Chat Rooms – stick around?
