NEW PORT RICHEY BUCCANEERS Welcome to the New Port Richey Buccaneers 2021 Season We’d like to welcome you to the NPR BUCS FAMILY! Everyone is excited for a great season! Our goal is to teach your children the fundamentals of football and cheer with some athletic competition. With your help and support, we will teach our athletes good sportsmanship, team building, discipline, and values that will go much farther than the field and the stage. We cannot do this alone. As a league we are comprised of volunteers that help with every detail of what goes on throughout the season. Volunteering does not require any specific skill, mandated times or dates - it just takes a little effort on everyone's part to make it all work. If you would like to impact your team through coaching you must sign up to volunteer. If you have concerns about your coaching staff or technical / practical advice to offer your team, but prefer not to volunteer, please share your ideas with the parent rep. The parent rep provides structured access to coaches so coaches can focus on the teams. Trust your volunteer coaches who have strong understanding of our leagues technical and ethical strategies. Please let us know if you are willing and interested in finding out how you can help. Remember it is volunteering - everyone has something they can add. Everything we do is for the children and the more help we have, the better experience we all can have. Thank you, Board Members New Port Richey Buccaneers Page | 2

NEW PORT RICHEY BUCCANEERS Practice a. Practice will be held on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 6pm until 8:30pm until school starts and during playoffs, Superbowl, and competition. Once school starts practice will be held on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday (This could change to Monday, Tuesday, Thursday; we will let you know if it does.) from 6pm to 8pm, except during playoffs, Superbowl and competitions. Which could be back to 4 days a week. b. Four hours of practice is required each week for your child to participate in that week’s game. This does not mean your child/children can miss a day a week; Coaches have the discretion to limit participation due to excessive absences. If you are not going to make a practice- it is required that you contact the Coach or Team Mom and let them know. c. Please remain behind the light poles for viewing practice on the west side of the field. d. For Mighty Mite and JV teams you may find seating on the opposite side but not between the two fields. Please ask your team mom if you’re unsure where to setup your seating. e. Please be prompt in picking up your child from practice. Once a child crosses the street they are not allowed to cross back over into the parking lot. We do have a crosswalk, but cars do not always slow down. f. All players and cheerleaders are REQUIRED to have parents that ATTEND PRACTICE. If for any reason you need to leave, you MUST let the coach or Team Mom know. g. Football players and Cheerleaders must be in proper attire and on the field ready to practice 15 minutes before practice. h. Football players must bring all equipment with them to practice. We will not loan out any equipment. i. Football players and Cheerleaders are not allowed to wear their game pants or game day uniforms to practice. j. WATER – Dehydrated athletes are more likely to get a concussion. Your child needs to drink lots of water at least 24 hours before practice or games. THIS IS SO IMPORTANT FOR HYDRATION!!! We will give your child a drink of water every 15 minutes during practice and games, but this will not be enough to hydrate an already dehydrated athlete. It is recommended that you provide at least one sports drink every other day to replenish the minerals your player is sweating out, but please don’t allow them to drink only sports drinks as this can be just as dangerous to their well-being as being dehydrated. k. RAIN - Practice will not be cancelled due to rain until 6:30pm. You must still come to the field until the coaches dismiss you. We will practice in rain, NOT during storms. We have a lightning detector at all times. Page | 6

We cannot do that without your help volunteering your time. We require 2 hours of volunteer time per child (with a 4 hour maximum if you have multiple children) for the following task that do not require a badge or application: Help in the concession, cleaning up, setting up, holding chains during the game or announcing. Should you not want to volunteer your time you may choose to pay $25.00 per child to abstain. All volunteers working directly with the children are required to complete an online volunteer application. You are also required to complete and pass a background check available online. Please see a Board member for more information. !!!!YOU MUST HAVE A BADGE TO BE ON THE FIELD - NO EXCEPTIONS!!!! TO AQUIRE A BADGE: First and foremost ask the Director, Assistant Director, or Athletic Director if the position you would like has been filled. NEW PORT RICHEY BUCCANEERS Team Moms Team Moms help the Coaches and NPR Board with getting information to the parents. This also includes keeping the children hydrated, keeping attendance records, snacks, etc. Each team needs a Team Mom. If you would like to volunteer please let your head coach or a board member know. TEAM MOMS need to sign up to be a volunteer Please follow the volunteer instructions on page 7. Responsibilities: Find out if any children have allergies or medical issues that the coaches should be aware of. Make sure to keep a list and be mindful at snack time. Hand out flyers and information provided by the league to the parents. Get the Water Cooler Ready for practice Take attendance at every practice. (Will be given out for each team on Monday) Please turn in attendance sheets at the concession window each Thursday after practice. Collect money from each parent to cover snacks and ice for half time. Fruit is preferred. Be mindful of allergies Collect re-usable water bottle from each child to fill at half time (you may use snack money to purchase these yourself if you choose to, should have child’s name on it). Collect data about what game and which hours parents will be volunteering. During Practice and during games using the clean re-usable water bottles assigned to you, Make sure each child on your team is provided a drink during practice by walking on the field and squeezing water into the children’s mouth. Every Child present and on the roster must have at least 1 drink of water every 15 minutes, The only exception to this rule is that if the heat index is 101 degrees then every child must have a drink every 10 minutes. No child can deny water; they must sit out if they refuse the water. (some of them will spit it out, that is ok as long as you gave it to them). During games the refs will let you know when to give them water, take care of the kids on the field first, but don’t forget to give a drink to the kids on the sidelines when you come off the field. Do not allow the children to chug the water as too much water too fast will make them sick. Bring (1) 16-20 LB BAG OR (2) 10LB BAGS) of ICE to away games (Do not open this bag and put in the snack cooler as it is for the water cooler ice for snacks will need to be in your cooler already) Bring and Fill kids water bottles with the team provided Gatorade just a couple of minutes before half time only fill large containers partially, please don’t waste it.) (if the child does not want Gatorade, you may fill the bottle with the water from the team water cooler) You need to wash these after every game. Hand out snacks and Gatorade to the kids at half-time (remind the children to use the garbage cans) Ice Cold towels will also be provided for the boys. You may use them when the boys come off the field, and provide one for each boy at halftime, but, you must make sure they don’t take them out on the field. Also make sure the boys keep them off the ground. The same towels are used all day, so we have to keep them as clean as possible. Take up a collection for your team of coaches and purchase some sort of memento to thank them for all of their hard work and time. Team moms usually put together a team party or activity at the end of the year. Page | 8
NEW PORT RICHEY BUCCANEERS Rules and Guidelines Tobacco and Alcohol are prohibited on the Grounds (This includes e-vape items.) No alcohol or drug use allowed!! There is strict Zero tolerance policy in place!!!! We risk losing the field for smoking on the property and litter. PLEASE walk off the field to smoke and do not throw your cigarette butts on the ground. All players, cheerleaders, parents, their guests, coaches, and board members are expected to act according with the code of conducts which can be found in this handbook or online. PLEASE place all trash in the garbage can! When you don’t, someone else MUST go behind you and pick up. Social Media - Any derogatory comments on Facebook or other Social Media site will result in a two (2) game suspension for the 1st offense by the child or the parent. This is a form of bullying and we have a ZERO TOLERENCE policy against bullying! PAL Complaint Procedure The PAL realizes in the course of a year in a competitive football and cheerleading program there will be disagreements and issues that arise. It is the PAL Board of Directors hope that this guideline will clearly illustrate the procedure behind filing a complaint and what can be expected once a complaint has been submitted. 1. Incident occurs in which a complaint is desired to be filed. 2. Complainant must submit said complaint in writing to the Director of his/her local league. 3. The league Director will attempt to rectify the complaint immediately depending on their availability and the severity of the complaint. 4. If the league Director feels as though the complaint is necessary for a hearing before their league Board of Directors, one will be scheduled and all parties involved in the complaint as pertinent to the hearing will be notified of the date and time of the hearing. The league Director will have two weeks (14 days) from the date the written complaint was received and submitted from the complainant to rectify the issue to the complainant’s satisfaction or to schedule a hearing. 5. After the hearing has been completed and a decision issued on the complaint, the complainant has one final appeal if said party is not satisfied with the decision. Complainant must submit in writing their desire for an appeal and a timeline of events to the Executive Director for a PAL Board of Directors hearing. This complaint can be emailed to ppalcomplaint@hotmail.com. If steps 1-4 of this procedure have not been followed, any complaint submitted to the Executive Director or any member of the PAL Board of Directors will not be entertained. 6. After the complaint has been submitted with timeline of events and verified that the proper procedure was followed, the Executive Director will schedule a hearing before the PAL Board of Directors for a final decision on the complaint. Complainants should always keep in mind the PAL Board of Directors reserves the right to impose a more severe penalty if the nature of the complaint is discipline related. 7. Once the hearing has been concluded the PAL Board of Directors will make a final decision on said complaint and the matter will be closed. *PAL reserves the right to adjust this procedure as needed per the Board of Directors* Page | 9

NEW PORT RICHEY BUCCANEERS Parent Code of Conduct I will give constructive criticism during a private moment, never in front of other parents, players, officials, spectators, etc. I will support the coach, and refrain from excessive “sideline coaching” from the stands. I understand if I would like to impact a team through coaching I am required to sign up as a volunteer coach. I will raise my concerns about players and or coaches including technical/practical issues with the parent rep. I understand that the parent rep provides structured access to the coaches so they can focus on their task. I will refrain from using profanity. I will abide by doctor’s decision in all matters of players health and injuries, and physical ability to play. I will accept the decisions of officials on the field as being fair and called to the best of their ability and will not engage in conversation with them about their call. I understand that I must stay off the field and remain under control in order to set a good example for players and other spectators. I will not criticize an opposing team, its players, fans, coaches or team, by words or gestures. I will support the coaches, players and officials and help teach the value of commitment to the teams, sportsmanship, ethical conduct, and fair play. I understand that every child is only guaranteed 8 plays and will refrain from commenting on how little I feel my child plays. I also understand that taking a Knee is considered a play. I will be courteous and respectful to everyone including, but not limited to my child’s teammates, other parents, opponents, coaches, referees and volunteers, regardless of race, creed, color, nationality, or sex. I will not encourage my child or any other person to be rude and engage in unsportsmanlike activity. I will not engage in inappropriate behavior while attending a league function (cursing, Alcoholic beverages, Smoking, Substance abuse etc. are strictly prohibited and I will remove myself from the premises) I will not try to discipline another person’s child, nor will I discuss the behavior of another child with that child’s parent. If I have an issue with someone else’s child I Will bring it to the attention of the Parent-Rep I understand that disrespecting the Flag will not be tolerated on the field. The League does not wish to step on my rights not to show the flag the respect they feel it deserves, but at the same time I understand that they also have a right to ask that anyone on their property respects their right to have the flag respected. (Yes I know if they rent it, it's considered their property) During the National Anthem I will stand, remove my hat, face the flag, and either remain silent or join in the singing of the National Anthem. I do have the right not to do this, so at this time if I choose not to participate I will remove myself from the field and re- join after the Anthem is finished. If I do not want my child to participate in the National Anthem I will take them with me outside the property until the Anthem is finished. I understand that by the time we get back in the game it has already started so my child may not be able to be a team captain or start the 1st couple of plays as a result of my decision. Should I choose to leave my child on the field and they do not show the proper respect of honoring the flag they may be benched immediately or asked to perform other disciplinary actions on Monday's practice. I understand that any person accompanying me is also subject to the same code of conduct as myself. I understand that any infraction of any of these items has consequences that could result in but are not limited to: suspension from as little as the rest of the game, a number of games, from all league activities for 1 full year from the date, fines and even arrest could also be possible.
