Getting around on Race Day If you are coming to watch the Brighton Marathon, there are a number of suggested key crossing points and pedestrian walkways to ensure that you can get from the start to the finish with as much ease as possible. You can also check the spectator routes on the Brighton Marathon Weekend mobile app available for download from Google Play and the iTunes store. Search for the ‘Active Experience’ app, which contains the Brighton Marathon and BM10k apps. EXITING THE START Preston Park will be surrounded by runners until the last runner has looped the park (possibly until 10.45am). We therefore advise one of the following: 1. Depart Preston Park by 9.30am via our exit on London Road, remain on the pavement nearest to the Park and walk south following the directional signage through our central walkway, for a clear route to the seafront. 2. Watch the start from the pavement on the western side of the A23 and then head south towards the seafront following our signage and central walkway. As the marathon course snakes along several main roads before reaching the seafront, please follow the marshals’ directions/instructions on the best walkway to use to avoid being blocked. Please also be patient as there will be a lot of you trying to get through. Spectator Guide 58

Team Brighton Team Brighton is made up of hundreds of amazing people who volunteer their time to support The Brighton Marathon Weekend. Each year, our volunteers show both commitment and enthusiasm second to none. These fantastic individuals come from all walks of life and are vital to the smooth running of the entire event, whether hydrating and cheering the runners on or being there at the finish with a well-deserved medal and pat on the back. They are the backbone and heart of the Brighton Marathon Weekend. Every single one of them is a #BrightonHero and we thank them from the bottom of our hearts for their support. We are delighted that our Official Community Partner American Express, will be supporting Team Brighton once again and thank them for their continued support in this crucial element of the event. Join The Team To be a Brighton Marathon Weekend volunteer takes stamina, patience and a great sense of humour. It can be both challenging and extremely rewarding. It’s a chance to meet new people, have fun and be a part of one of the UK’s biggest sporting events. There are a wide variety of roles available, ranging from assisting with race pack collection, to supporting the Event Team out on the course, or even helping in the Call Centre. For further information and more detailed listings of the roles on offer, head to the Volunteer Page of the Brighton Marathon Weekend website. Sign up at: www.brightonmarathonweekend.co.uk/volunteer Although the day is hard work it is great fun and there’s something really humbling when a runner goes past, grabbing the cup of water you’re holding, but still finding the time to thank you profusely – they’re the ones doing the hard miles after all. Personally, I’m in awe of all the wonderful people that run. Whether it’s running the course as a personal challenge, or raising money for local and national charities. They are amazing and all are stars in my eyes. Volunteering and being part of Team Brighton Marathon, is a fun, fast paced, action packed day, which I really enjoy. Wendy Everett

Giving back
GIVING BACK The Brighton Marathon Weekend is proud to have supported hundreds of charities over the past ten years, helping to raise much-needed funds for a diverse range of causes. Thousands of inspirational participants have raised millions of pounds at the Brighton Marathon Weekend, whether taking part in the marathon, 10k or Mini Mile. And this year, even more will be giving back by riding for charity in the BM Ride. We wanted to take a look back at some of the most memorable charity fundraisers since the event began and their remarkable reasons for taking parting. 2012 Following a serious motorbike accident in Germany, former soldier Matthew Rhodes was left blind and paralysed down his 2014 entire right side, and was lucky to Kevin Williams juggled his way survive.
