Advisory Period • This is a scheduled period where your student is assigned to attend with one of their teachers on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Fridays from 1:06 - 1:32 pm. There is no Advisory Period on Wednesdays. • On Mondays of each week in Advisory Period students will track their current grades in all of their classes using their Daily Agenda along with tracking any missing assignments from their classes. We will use Advisory Period time to share school wide information, for example, at the beginning of the year we will use the time to share school rules, expectations and campus procedures.
Advisory Period (continued) • On Tuesday, Thursday and Fridays during Advisory Period students will individually read a novel of their choice. It is an expectation and requirement that every Grizzly student has a book to read with them every day of the week. We are asking students to have a physical book to read and not use their phone or tablet or an electronic device - we want our students to have tech free time to read. A student can be invited to go to one of their teacher's classroom during Advisory to make-up work, receive interventions or enrichment. Our teachers will invite students through using the weekly agenda and students can receive assistance during the school day.
Communication • Establish an email account with Infinite Campus (IC) to receive emails from teachers and office. • Follow us on Twitter and Instagram for updates. • Please contact your child’s teacher directly with concerns first, we recommend a phone call to have a voice to voice conversation. We ask our staff to return voice messages within 24 hours (unless it is a weekend). If concern is not solved, please contact one of our school administrators.
GrizzlyS.T.R.O.N.G. • Staff and students are GrizzlyS.T.R.O.N.G. – S is for Support – T is for Trust – R is for Respect – O is for Organized – N is for Never Give Up – G is for Genuine
GrizzlyS.T.R.O.N.G. (continued) Engagement with your student - Find consistent time to engage in meaningful conversations with your child - avoid “yes/no” questions. Organization and support, backpack and place for HW at home. Communication - You now have six teachers instead of one. Concerns addressed directly with teacher first - highly recommend voice to voice. Daily/weekly grade checks through Infinite Campus and through GRJHS Weekly Agenda. Social/Emotional - Physical changes, new environment, interactions with peers, social/emotional situations.
GRJHS Weekly Agenda
Grades (Infinite Campus) • The district utilizes Infinite Campus for all grading. – Grades can be checked online by parents/guardians anywhere/anytime (24/7). • iPhone/Droid “app” available. • ***Setup/Login – Check your student’s information available grades frequently, as this removes any chance of via the Greenfield “surprises” at the end of Junior High website the quarter/semester. (“Parent Zone” tab)
Chromebooks Every student receives a Chromebook to use at school and at home. They also receive a power cord charger, students are expected to have a fully charged Chromebook for each day of school. Chromebooks will be distributed on Friday, August 6. Parents must complete the Annual Update prior to August 6 in order for their child to receive a Chromebook. Our district utilizes a filtering system to block inappropriate websites. It is not 100% perfect. We recommend students use their Chromebook at home with an adult present.
Chromebooks (continued) Know your child’s username and password! ● You can access what they are accessing, to monitor and see what they are utilizing. ● Create healthy habits now. When they are using their Chromebook at home, be aware of where they are using it at, monitor and be visible so they know you know. ● Before going to bed, charge the Chromebook in area of home where it is not accessible for them to use when you are asleep.
Chromebooks (continued) Our district is offering an OPTIONAL Chromebook Device Protection Plan (DPP) for $25.00. The DPP can be found at Student Device Handbook Students, who have purchased the DPP and have not had a claim for damage to their device during the school year, will have their protection rolled over to the upcoming school year and their device will remain covered under the DPP. The yearly roll over of the original DPP purchase will remain in place until the student is no longer a GPS student or has a claim. Enrollment in the DPP does not begin until the $25 payment has been received and must be completed by September 3, 2021. Can purchase the DPP at Grizzly Days today.
Electronics • We can not guarantee the security of items your child brings to school, for example, cell phones, “airpods”, portable speakers. • We typically experience students leaving their valuables (wallet, cash, cell phone, airpods, speakers) in their backpack in the locker room unattended or on a table during lunch. • Students receive a designated PE locker and are asked to purchase AND use a lock - students choose to not put valuables in the locker or do not actually lock the lock to try and save time. • Unfortunately items left out can and do get taken - often we have no realistic way to find out who took the items. • We ask that students do not bring portable speakers to school - we do not allow music to be played through them on campus. • Cell phones are allowed on campus, in the classroom each teacher has cell phone expectations. During passing periods and lunch students are able to use them.

Can be found here: GPS Mitigation Strategies • Daily Health Assessments for Students and Employees, please conduct at home prior to coming to school. • Face coverings will be optional for staff and students • Will students be quarantined? • Yes, we are mandated by law to quarantine students who have been identified as being in “close contact” with a Covid positive student or staff member. Close contact as defined by the CDC is being within 6 feet for 15 minutes in a 24 hour period, OR physical contact with the positive person.
GPS Mitigation Strategies • At this time, as a school district, we are working within a range of guidelines from a local, state, and national level, which are at times potentially contradicting. We continue to work with relevant organizations to navigate this. Any mandate from State or County Health Departments will be followed. Any Executive Order from the Governor’s Office will be followed.
