ABOUT US
Founded in 1994, the Delhi Policy Group (DPG) is among India’s oldest think tanks with its primary focus on
strategic and international issues of critical national interest. DPG is a non-partisan institution and is
independently funded by a non-profit Trust. Over past decades, DPG has established itself in both domestic
and international circles and is widely recognised today among the top security think tanks of India and of
Asia’s major powers.
Since 2016, in keeping with India’s increasing global profile, DPG has expanded its focus areas to include
India’s regional and global role and its policies in the Indo-Pacific. In a realist environment, DPG remains

to the growth of India’s national power and purpose, the security and prosperity of the people of India and

Why does India recklessly focus on blocking Chinese apps?
September 3, 2020, Global Times
Right after Indian troops once again illegally crossed the Line of Actual Control,
New Delhi imposed a new ban on a swath of Chinese apps, showing reckless
intention to further decouple with China economically. The move is a double-
edged sword which will cause losses to both China and India, while offering a
perfect opportunity for the US to take over the market.
Influencing Indo-Pacific region difficult for Europe
September 3, 2020, Global Times
The German government set out the course for its future policy on countries in
the Indo-Pacific region. The policy guidelines, with the theme "Germany-
Europe-Asia: Shaping the 21st century together," argue that the shifting
geopolitical power structures in the Indo-Pacific have a direct impact on
Germany. This new policy is centered on greater security and economic
cooperation. "Indo-Pacific" is a not a simple political term, nor is it value-
neutral, as an SWP research paper published in July pointed out. Invented by
the Trump administration, this term implies one of the geopolitical focal points
of the intensifying US-China strategic rivalry.

military imbalance in the Taiwan Straits. It warns that the People's Liberation
Army is preparing to unify the island of Taiwan with the Chinese mainland by
force, listing a range of China's military options to "invade" the island. The part
was certainly not choreographed for the sake of Taiwan. It aims solely at China.
The report coordinates with US President Donald Trump administration's

China policy, providing excuses for Washington's tough strategy against

Playing Tibet card will incur damage to New Delhi
September 3, 2020, Global Times
Some Indian media recently said India's "Special Frontier Force" (SFF), a force
recruited mostly from exiled Tibetans, has "thwarted" the People's Liberation
Army (PLA)'s actions along the China-India border area. A Tibetan member
died and another was critically wounded during the SFF's illegal crossing of the
Line of Actual (LAC) near the south bank of the Pangong Lake. Indian Prime
Minister Narendra Modi in June declared that Indian deaths in the Galwan
Valley clash "will not be in vain." And now, India is letting these exiled Tibetans
rush to the forefront. It seems that New Delhi may try to play the Tibet card.

Who succeeds Abe’s foreign policy?
September 2, 2020, The Japan Times
In a parliamentary democracy, the political weather can change overnight. The
sudden announcement of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s resignation on Aug. 28
has rewritten political weather forecasts both in the ruling and opposition
parties. A new power game has begun in Tokyo. That said, the endgame of this
political game is probably easier to predict than the 2020 U.S. presidential
election. This time, Abe resigned out of his deep sense of responsibility. Eight
years of his foreign policy has made Tokyo more influential, trusted and even
respected than any other period in Japan’s post-World War II diplomatic
history. Why was he so successful in foreign policy? Was it just good luck? What
made the difference? Who will succeed Abe as prime minister? And, ultimately,
what will their foreign policy look like?
