A Warm Welcome Unfortunately for many 2020 was extremely challenging, however for those of us in the business of beef and agriculture in general, overall it was a year to put a bounce back in the step. Record livestock prices, the WORMBETE arrival of long awaited rainfall, an opportunity to replenish silage and hay reserves and again see our cattle contentedly grazing paddocks of grass saw us entering 2021 with a renewed sense of optimism and enthusiasm. As a family enterprise we’ve embraced this sense of energy as together we look to the future and the path ahead for our stud. Registered Simmentals since 1972 We remain committed to our stud philosophy and breeding protocols. We know our cattle and we know their history and as such we breed them to be adaptable, resilient and profitable. We run our cattle with a commercial focus and are continuously advancing the consistency and productivity Our Stud Philosophy............ of our female herd. By running our cattle in large contemporary groups we “Breed fertile, robust, easy doing, gain the benefits of better comparisons between the performance of our structurally sound and commercially females and their breeding efficiency, as well as the improved utilisation seasonally of available pasture and grazing crops as we manage our relevant Simmental cattle that are land, soil and water more sustainably and regeneratively. proven for longevity and performance. We remain motivated by the quality of our cattle which has held us in high Uphold the principles of integrity, stead in the Simmental breed in Australia for 49 years. All sale animals are backed up by a full complement of performance data, structural and docility assessments, animal health and fertility checks. VC SIMMENTALS Every year one of the things we look forward to the most & dread the most all at the same time is the welcome letter. However, I find it a task to say something new that also reflects our goals our vision & our dreams. This last year we have been able to push the VC program in new uncharted waters by doubling down all the things we do. We have doubled the flush cows, doubling the cow herd & purchasing double the amount of overseas sires/embryos plus purchased two new donor cows in Canada. One of the things that really stands out to us was “Don’t Give Up on Your Dreams” #MakingSimmentalsGreat As I was preparing to write this year’s introduction, I was thumbing through our old sale catalogues & just reflected on how much our program at VC has evolved in time. I remember being that 16-year-old kid that aspired to supply & demonstrate the benefits of Simmental cattle to the Australian Commercial Industry, VC has been working on this for 22 years. I still find it hard to understand why the Simmental Breed is not as big in Australia compared to other parts of the world. We have all heard that saying do what you love & you will never work a day in your life & it is so true. Here at VC we breathe & live pure Simmental. Agriculture commodities were at a new level of high in all sectors, this year’s Autumn weaner sales are off to an extremely good start & for the most part the crops are in the bins & selling at a high price. Amidst the economic chaos & political & media mayhem we still have a booming industry so I ask you were would you rather be. We believe this is one of your best opportunities to buy in & invest in your future breeding programs. We feel our 2021 sale draft is the next level in the VC Program. We have 4 18-month-old sale bulls & 6 outstanding next level yearlings comprising of all ET calves. Here at VC we will be focusing more & more on selling yearlings as we believe it is the fastest genetic gain in the beef industry. The cow herd at VC is what sets us apart from the competition these females are direct from our core & featuring lines that have perversely never been sold. Featuring two Strike females PTIC & 2 PTIC Traditional females plus 3 unjoined black heifers. All selling with the freshest new genetics, buy with confidence that you are getting into the very top end in the Simmental Industry in Australia. We are extremely grateful to the Hopkins Family for giving us this opportunity to join them in the 8th on-property sale. We believe that both studs combined will ensure that there is something to offer for every buyer. We thank you & our valued clients, we hope you like our hospitably & enjoy your purchases. Kind Regards, Stuart & Samantha Moeck 7

SIMMENTAL GROUP BREEDPLAN - INTERPRETING THE FIGURES Both Wormbete and VC are committed supporters of performance recording and undertake a committed recording of performance traits including, Gestation Length, Calving Ease, Birthweight, 200, 400 and 600 Day Weights, in addition to scanning for EMA, IMF, Rib and Rump measurements, measuring Scrotal Circumference, plus Docility Scoring. An animals breeding value is its genetic merit, half of which will be passed onto its progeny. While it is not possible to determine an animals true breeding value, it is possible to estimate it. These estimates are called Estimated Breeding Values (EBVs). The accuracy of an EBV will increase as more information is collected on that animal and its relatives e.g. progeny. In the calculation of EBVs, the performance of individual animals within a contemporary group is directly compared to the average of other animals in that group. A contemporary group consists of animals of the same sex and age class within a herd, run under the same management conditions and treated equally. Indirect comparisons are made between animals reared in different contemporary groups, through the use of pedigree links between the groups. The value of EBVs over raw data is that they are the fast track to improving the genetic profile and bottom line performance of any herd. EBVs give a benchmarked breeding predicatability (genotype) while raw data is a scale of how the animals presents (phenotype).
