“ There are few moments on the water where I’ve experienced something so profound. Usually when I paddle in my free time, it’s to relax and find a sense of calm. But in Antarctica, I experienced an adrenaline rush from the seat of my kayak like never before. Following our guide through a channel of icebergs, everything was exceptionally quiet—that Antarctic silence our Expedition Team tells us about, where you feel you’re the only humans for miles. The only sound was that of our paddles dipping softly in the water. Then, as we approached open water, the stillness started to dissipate and the mood slightly changed. Suddenly, our guide spotted a dark shape in the water ahead and signaled that it could be a whale. We kept our distance—for both ours and the animal’s safety—hoping it would surface so we could get a better view. We weren’t disappointed. With our expert guide beside us, it was a thrilling moment. ” This creature seemed to be giving us a proper Antarctic welcome, inviting us to explore her home. “ After cruising from Ushuaia for three days, we arrived in South and white, penguins nestled together, caring for their eggs or Georgia.
