TYE TRIBBETT JEKALYN CARR - The Stellar Awards
Dear Friends:

On behalf of everyone in Nashville and Davidson County, welcome to the 36th Annual Stellar Gospel
Music Awards.

Since 1984, the Stellar Gospel Music Awards has recognized and honored outstanding artists and other
pioneers in the Gospel industry for their contributions and accomplishments.

It is the largest televised event in the Gospel music industry today with an audience of more than 60
million people. And I’m honored to welcome the awards ceremony back to Music City and to the beautiful
Schermerhorn Symphony Center.

Nashville is best known as the home of country music. But, as “Music City,” we owe our nickname to the
Fisk Jubilee Singers, who performed sacred spirituals and early Gospel music for a global audience
starting in 1871.

Today, Gospel music continues to thrive in Nashville. And we’re grateful that your love of music, and
your faith, have brought you here today.

Again, welcome to the 36th Annual Stellar Gospel Music Awards. We’re glad you’re here, and we hope
you’ll visit again soon.

Sincerely,

John Cooper
Mayor

has spent nearly a decade at the top of Gospel music charts. As a
top selling independent recording artist, Jekalyn Carr has earned
several Billboard #1’s before the age of 21, which includes her
hit singles, “You’re Bigger” and “You Will Win”. She burst onto
the scene with incomparable vocals and a distinguished grasp of
wisdom well beyond her years, with her breakout single, “Greater Is

churches and organizations of all sizes and note. Adding to her
spectacular introduction to the Gospel music industry, Jekalyn
received her first Stellar Award at the age of 16. To date, she has
                                        received four (4) Stellar Awards.

Ever evolving, Jekalyn made her television acting debut with a
featured role on the OWN Television Network series “Greenleaf”
and expanded her acting experience in the feature film, “Never

her debut release “You Will Win!: Inspirational Strategies To Help
You Overcome”. In “You Will Win!” Carr shares some of her most
poignant and riveting exhortations, inspirational messages, pointers
and strategies to promote a victorious Christian life. Jekalyn is one
of the youngest to host a major conference that works to build and
uplift people in faith, family, and the marketplace. The ‘You Will
Win’ conference is another platform that she uses to inspire people.

TYE TRIBBETT
With one of the most relevant voices of this generation, Tye
Tribbett creates a dynamic new caliber of music with a sound
that reaches the heart of young as well as the old. His music
cannot be classified by any one genre, but by his unique, abstract
way of encompassing all. He is often heralded as the “Elvis of
Gospel” and is a multiple Grammy and Soul Train Music Award-
winning Motown Gospel artist who released “The Bloody Win”
in 2017. He returned in 2020 with a new song, “We Gon’ Be
Alright” which provided a positive voice during the pandemic.

After independently establishing a core fan base of thousands,
many would attend their rehearsals and local shows. In 1997,
Tye Tribbett, the founder of G.A., entered the group into the
McDonald’s and Wrigley’s Gospel choir competitions. They won
first prize in all categories and Tribbett astonished the audience
and judges with his incredibly high energy.

Tribbett’s jumps were so high and his performances were so
captivating that in 1998, he got the attention of award-winning
producers, Buster and Shavoni, who produced the soundtrack
to Dreamworks’ film, The Prince of Egypt. Tye and his group’s
performance on the soundtrack catapulted Tribbett into the
mainstream music industry.

Tye Tribbett and G.A. sang and made their mark in the music
industry and shared the stage with numerous industry icons. They
captivated and mesmerized audiences including mega-producer,
David Foster, who invited them to the stage at his annual “City of
Hope” event in Hollywood.

With over 20 years in music and ministry and career sales
exceeding 1.3 million units across six (6) released albums,
this accomplished Stellar and Dove Award-winning musician’s
charismatic, energetic and dynamic personality can be seen
pastoring alongside his wife, Shanté Tribbett at their Live Church
ministry, in Orlando, Florida where they reside with their two
daughters.

STELLAR HONORS HALL OF FAME
                                     Meet the Class of 2020-21
The Stellar Honors Hall of Fame was officially inaugurated in 2015 to honor Gospel music
professionals who have made invaluable contributions, provided service and personal
commitment to the preservation of Gospel music. Congratulations Class!

Dr. Teresa Hairston is an internationally known and respected pioneer in the field of Gospel
music and ministry. In 1989, she established Gospel Today Magazine, a publication she launched
with an investment of only $300, while working two jobs as a single (divorced) mother to three
young children. Over the 23 plus years of her leadership (she retired in 2013 and passed the
magazine on to her son), Gospel Today grew to become the longest running and most widely
distributed Urban Christian Lifestyle magazine in history.
In 1994, Dr. Hairston founded the Gospel Heritage Foundation. Each year, thousands of people
from across the world attend GHF’s annual International Worship Summit, which has become the
genre’s leading praise & worship gathering. In 2017, she relinquished her leadership and passed
the torch to international Gospel artist, Vashawn Mitchell.
Dr. Hairston is currently based in Atlanta, GA, where she serves as an ordained elder, preacher
and teacher at Changing A Generation Full Gospel Baptist Church. She is also the author of eight
DR. TERESA HAIRSTON books and hosts a weekly TV show.

Kerry Douglas was an outsider who became the ultimate Gospel music insider and star maker
as founder and CEO of Black Smoke Music Worldwide. For 25 years, the Houston native has
taken unknown artists and turned them into Billboard number one acts.
After a little time in college, then a car salesman, Douglas quit the dealership and used his sales
and marketing skills to build the careers of Gospel artists. His label’s first hit was the late Rev. E.
Stewart’s “I Believe.” Douglas then signed Keith “Wonderboy” Johnson & the Spiritual Voices and
remixed Turrentine-Agee’s 20-year old tune “God Did It.” BMI cited it as the most played Gospel
song of 2000. Douglas has been breaking hits ever since.
Douglas later created another marketing masterpiece, Kerry Douglas Presents the Gospel Mix
series of CDs that was the catalyst to breaking artists. He loves building an artist from scratch
as he has done with Pastor Mike, Jr., Edwrin Sutton and Demetrius West & the Jesus Promoters.
During COVID-19 quarantine, Kerry created Gospelmixradio.com and Spotlight Night to help
KERRY DOUGLAS musicians promote their projects.

Skip Barrett is widely recognized as an innovative and creative Music Industry Executive.
Skip started his professional career with the famed Hawkins Family -- Walter, Edwin & Tramaine
                        Hawkins.
Soon after Skip worked with BeBe & CeCe Winans, as road manager, then as Executive Director
of their Production Company guiding the career of the multi-Grammy Award winning, platinum
selling duo. When BeBe & CeCe pursued separate solo careers, Skip accepted an executive
position at Sony/Word Entertainment, heading the A&R department as Director of their Black
Music Division, being responsible for several high profile signings.
Mr. Barrett has guided the careers of many notable artists and has worked with many notable
producers. He has also worked personally with such artists as Whitney Houston, Natalie
Cole, Luther Vandross, Stevie Wonder and Take Six. He was executive producer on several
full-length concert videos, and served as Executive Producer and A&R on over 35 major label
   SKIP BARRETT recording projects.

GOSPEL ANNOUNCER OF THE YEAR
“My wish for you is that you continue. Continue to be who and how
you are, to astonish a mean world with your acts of kindness.” -- Maya Angelou

It’s the 36th Anniversary of the Stellar Gospel Music Awards and the 28th year since the launch of the
prestigious ‘Announcer of the Year’ award. It’s been the tradition since its inception to honor the contributions
of those personalities throughout the nation who work tirelessly to support Gospel music, the artists and to
bring us the sounds that bless and inspire the communities they serve.

               CONGRATULATIONS 2021 NOMINEES!
The spotlight shines with a special glow on the radio personalities of these four nominees -- Dr. Sctonda Kelly
Gordon, Carmina Barnett, Melanie Pratt, and Sheilah Belle -- for the ‘2021 Gospel Announcer of the Year’
award. We proudly honor you for your commitment to your audience and Gospel music.
