TRUSTLY PAY-IN PRODUCT DESCRIPTION MARCH 2020 March 2020 1. Executive Summary Trustly’s Pay-in product allows consumers to execute bank payments to merchants from thousands of European banks. The payment is done by means of a bank credit transfer set up in the consumer’s online bank and is an alternative to making a payment using a bank card, e-wallet or invoice. Trustly provides a payment initiation service which automatically populates the transfer details on behalf of the consumer. Consumers do not have to register an account with Trustly or go through a sign up process; they simply use their familiar online banking credentials and authentication. To cater to banks that do not currently support Automated Pay-ins, we also offer Manual Pay-ins. Consumers are presented with the payment details necessary to conduct a manual bank transfer. Please see the “Manual Pay-in Product description” appendix (Appendix B) for more information. Trustly takes receipt of Pay-ins in its own recipient bank account. This enables Trustly to provide merchants with real-time payment notifications, a Back Office dashboard showing the status of all payments across countries and currencies, FX management functionality, and one-click refunds. This is delivered through one integration and one agreement. Trustly settles funds to merchants in the merchants’ preferred currency (“merchant settlement”) and charges merchants a fee for each transaction. The distribution of this document is subject to a non-disclosure agreement between Trustly and yourselves. © 2020 TRUSTLY GROUP AB 2
TRUSTLY PAY-IN PRODUCT DESCRIPTION MARCH 2020 2. The Pay-in product 2.1. Automated Pay-in Trustly’s Automated Pay-in product enables consumers to pay from their online bank accounts, supporting instant credit notifications from thousands of European banks. Transfers are received and reconciled by Trustly and then settled to merchants’ own bank accounts. Trustly aims to support Automated Pay-ins for at least 80% of bank account holders (consumers), in any European market. Since Trustly controls the entire payment flow, upon request from our merchants, we can also reverse a transaction, either partially or in full, and make a pay-out to the originating bank account (also known as a refund). TRUSTLY PAY-IN PRODUCT DESCRIPTION MARCH 2020 2.3. Authentication methods Trustly makes it easy to pay online and on mobile by supporting the latest technologies available, such as Mobile BankID, fingerprint ID sensor, Face ID and text message authentication. We also support the traditional authentication methods such as tokens, one-time password generators and scratch cards. © 2020 TRUSTLY GROUP AB 5
TRUSTLY PAY-IN PRODUCT DESCRIPTION MARCH 2020 2.4. Devices The Trustly payment method is optimized for all user devices (laptop, desktop, mobile, tablet). It has a responsive user experience and supports retina displays. Trustly also fully supports native iOS and Android apps. When integrating Trustly within your iOS or Android app, colors can be customized, and the background is transparent, so any background color/image set within your app will become visible, giving you full flexibility to brand the interface to your app. FIGURE 2 “TRUSTLY ON MOBILE AND NATIVE IOS APP” © 2020 TRUSTLY GROUP AB 6
TRUSTLY PAY-IN PRODUCT DESCRIPTION MARCH 2020 2.5. Remember recurring customers Consumers can choose to save their personal ID (or login/client ID) in the iframe so that Trustly can pre-populate the field the next time they pay using Trustly. We also remember the language and bank choice so that consumers will not have to make these choices on their next use. 2.6. Custom statement text The merchant can add a custom text to the reference on the consumer’s statement. The reference will contain the 10-digit Trustly reference code plus the text of choice. It is set by the merchant via the API call. The number of characters shown on statements varies between banks (so in some banks the text might be cut off). 2.7. Languages The Trustly iframe supports English and native language for all supported countries. The language settings can either be set by automatically applying consumers’ browser language settings; or by merchants setting the language attributes when requesting the service to be presented; or by active consumer choice in the language selector. The Back Office currently supports English and Spanish. © 2020 TRUSTLY GROUP AB 7
TRUSTLY PAY-IN PRODUCT DESCRIPTION MARCH 2020 2.8. Coverage Trustly’s Pay-in product currently supports the majority of European markets, including all domestic currencies in the EU. We currently support Automated Pay-ins from over 3,300 banks and are continually expanding our bank network. Trustly aims to support Automated Pay-ins for the 80% of bank account holders (consumers) in any European market, and in core markets, the coverage already exceeds 90%. TRUSTLY PAY-IN PRODUCT DESCRIPTION MARCH 2020 2.9. Currently supported banks Please see appendix A, page 18 “Currently supported banks” to see which banks we support to date (March 2020). 2.10 Merchant settlements Merchants are able to settle funds accumulated from consumer payments from their Trustly account to their own bank account. Settlements are done in batches, meaning an aggregated balance is settled in one transfer rather than one settlement transfer for each incoming payment. This is not to be confused with a pay-in settlement, when a pay-in from a consumer settles into Trustly’s receiving bank account. FIGURE 3 “MERCHANT SETTLEMENT” Designated account The merchant’s settlement accounts need to be verified by Trustly and settlements can only be made to bank accounts that are verified. (Such accounts are referred to in the merchant agreement as a “designated account.”) Verification of designated bank accounts is done during the customer due diligence process before a merchant goes live. If needed, a new account can be verified after going live by contacting your Account Manager. © 2020 TRUSTLY GROUP AB 9
TRUSTLY PAY-IN PRODUCT DESCRIPTION MARCH 2020 Settlement frequencies Settlements can be set to be processed automatically at the frequency preferred by the Merchant (daily, weekly, monthly, etc.), and can also be initiated manually from the Back Office. Merchants receive net balance settlements (fees deducted), or gross settlement where required by law. Settlement currency Settlements are usually made in the same currency as the Trustly client account. However, merchants can choose to receive settlement in any Trustly-supported currency. Trustly currently supports the following currencies for settlements: CZK, DKK, EUR, GBP, NOK, PLN and SEK. Additional currencies can be made available on request. Settlement times Settlements are processed as a regular bank transfer, so funds are typically credited to the designated account the next bank day. This may vary depending on the clearing and settlement systems involved. 2.11. Refunds Once a payment has settled, the merchant can request a partial or full refund (not higher than the original payment) to the same bank account from which the payment came. FIGURE 4 ‘THE TRUSTLY MODEL’ © 2020 TRUSTLY GROUP AB 10
TRUSTLY PAY-IN PRODUCT DESCRIPTION MARCH 2020 2.12. Reporting and reconciliation Trustly’s services can all be monitored, reconciled and operated using the API features, which are fully integrated into merchants’ existing reporting systems or via the graphical online merchant interface, the Back Office. This interface includes all the tools needed to reconcile, check currency balances, order fundings and refunds, request settlements, process transactions manually, read or export the account ledger or other data, and carry out FX orders. Access to the Back Office is fully flexible with individual logins and different user-level access rights. By default, access management utilizes two-factor authentication using one-time codes sent via SMS as well as IP-restrictions. Typically, all data available in the Back Office is available to export in CSV (comma separated values) format. CSV files are easily imported into Microsoft Excel for further reconciliation or analysis. Trustly offers Back Office training and tutorials upon request. TRUSTLY PAY-IN PRODUCT DESCRIPTION MARCH 2020 2.13 Notifications and limits Trustly communicates with the merchant through notifications. Pending notification The deposit call will be replied to with a pending notification if the request is successful and not stopped by our risk system, e.g. because of fraud. The pending notification verifies that the transaction will be processed. Credit notification The credit notification Is sent by Trustly when the goods or services can be shipped/when the balance can be topped up. This does not, however, necessarily mean that the transaction has settled. It’s up to the merchant to decide if it wants to accept some risk (see further details below) to enable quicker notifications. The timing of the credit notification is controlled by settings in the risk system. • If the amount is within the instant limit, a credit notification will be sent instantly. • If the amount is above the instant limit, the credit notification will be sent when Trustly has received the payment from the consumer’s bank. Debit notification If the transaction does not settle for some reason, but a credit notification has already been sent, Trustly will send a debit notification. Trustly has a recommended instant limit for every bank, although these can be changed upon merchant’s request in order to fit its needs. However, Trustly’s recommended instant limits are based on the different behaviors and features of different banks, so increasing them should be discussed with your account manager. © 2020 TRUSTLY GROUP AB 12
TRUSTLY PAY-IN PRODUCT DESCRIPTION MARCH 2020 Instant vs delayed credit notification • The timing of credit notifications can affect the speed of the transaction for the user • There is a possibility of loss for the merchant when instant credit notifications are sent, but virtually none when delayed credit notifications are sent Instant credit notification Delayed credit notification Possibility of loss Virtually 0 possibility of loss Merchant is notified that the funds are on their Merchant is only notified after the funds way. However, if the funds do not settle, then a have settled in their Trustly account so loss is incurred by the merchant. there is no possibility of loss. 1. Payment Initiation: 1. Credit notification: account Delayed credit notification is sent after the funds have settled in the merchant’s Trustly account Due to diverse bank infrastructure systems, bank payments can settle with different speed and possibility. For this reason, Trustly puts banks into 3 categories: Standard Instant Limit Possibility of Loss Liability of Losses €1,000 INSTANT Optimised €2,200 (SE,FI) up to the instant limit YES Merchant Basic €0 DELAYED NO N.A INSTANT Evaluation €200 up to the instant limit YES Trustly FIGURE 6 “SETTLEMENT SPEED AND POSSIBILITY” The instant limits are set per merchant, applied to the users’ bank accounts, and are cumulative. There is a standard set of instant limits that apply if the merchant doesn’t have specific requirements, however they can be configured to fit the merchant’s needs. © 2020 TRUSTLY GROUP AB 13
TRUSTLY PAY-IN PRODUCT DESCRIPTION MARCH 2020 2.14. Multi-currency support Integrated currency handling The Trustly service has integrated currency handling, which lets consumers pay in their local currency, while merchants settle in their sale currency. This is useful if a webshop operates in one currency (e.g. EUR) and the consumer only has a bank account in another currency (e.g. SEK). The consumer’s payment will be in the relevant amount in SEK and the merchant will be credited in EUR in its merchant balance. FIGURE 7 “MULTI-CURRENCY SUPPORT” Instant currency conversion If merchants need to fund a currency that has insufficient balance in the client funds account, currency can easily be converted from existing balances via the Back Office merchant interface. © 2020 TRUSTLY GROUP AB 14
TRUSTLY PAY-IN PRODUCT DESCRIPTION MARCH 2020 3. Integration Trustly’s entire payment platform, including all products in all markets, is available through a single technical integration and one merchant agreement. This integration can be made in different ways: 3.1. Via API integration This is the most powerful way to integrate Trustly, as it will allow your business to take full advantage of our product portfolio. Basic knowledge of network programming and monetary transactions is required. Any operating system and any programming language can be used to integrate our API. You can find the full documentation and more details on trustly.com/developer. 3.2. Via PSPs/Third-party integration Payment service providers (PSPs) and third-party integrations offer services for accepting electronic online payments. The Trustly OBeP service can be integrated through PSPs/third-parties in different ways: 3.2.1 Collecting PSPs The merchant purchases and handles the pay-in service, including settlements and reconciliation through the PSP’s interface. Examples of collecting PSPs that offer Trustly are: 3.2.2. Technical PSP Technical integration is made between the merchant’s payment page and the PSP’s payment gateway, but the merchant has a direct commercial agreement with Trustly and access to Back Office. © 2020 TRUSTLY GROUP AB 15
