what's new for 2021 Georges Island National Historic Site The newest addition to Nova Scotia’s National Historic Sites family Georges Island is located in the heart of Halifax harbour, the place the Mi’kmaq called Kjipuktuk or “The Great Harbour.” Accessible by shuttle boat or kayaking packages Discover how this small island and its fortifications played a large role as a prison, as an internment camp for Acadians, in the development of Nova Scotia and in the overall defence of Canada. what's new for 2021 Peggy's Cove Viewing Deck New viewing deck designed to enhance views - access to the rocks and lighthouse will not be impeded. deck and railings will be made of wood and steel rail guard will be steel knit pattern that resembles fish net, set into the landscape taking the shape of the rock to avoid overshadowing the landscape and lighthouse allow people to view the lighthouse and experience the waves and rocks in a way that is fully accessible and safe Viewing deck complements provincial infrastructure enhancements already underway: Peggy's Cove Viewing Deck: artist rendering washroom facilities, improved parking, curbs and sidewalks to improve pedestrian safety, and renovations to the deGarthe Studio
what's new for 2021 Ingonish Tree Walk Soaring 30 meters above the top of the mountain, North America’s first and only Tree Walk will allow you to explore Cape Breton nature, learn about the history of the Mi’kmaq people, and take in views of the Atlantic Ocean. Opening July 2021, the Tree Walk is delicately incorporated into the landscape, offering education, entertainment, and adventure accessible to all. Access will be by trail or a brand new 8-person gondola, the first in Atlantic Canada, which will take riders from the bottom of Cape Smokey 320 vertical meters to the top in 4 minutes. 561 meters total walkway length 0-6% grade (accessible) 285 meters above sea level 14 large educational signs highlighting history, local flora and fauna Ingonish Tree Walk: artist rendering
