Dear Friends, Welcome to The Colonial’s 95th anniversary year! For close to a century (and twenty-five years as a nonprofit) it has been the theatre’s privilege to present a wealth of the world’s greatest artists on stage and screen, providing our audiences with everything from awe-inspiring performances to straight up fun. During this anniversary season we will continue to expand the cultural landscape of our community and region. Staying true to our vision, we are proud to present exceptional and innovative performing arts aimed at exciting (like when Pink Martini is joined by crowd-surfing tragi-comedienne and singing sensation Meow Meow), educating (check out We Shall Overcome and its joyful celebration of music inspired by the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.), and challenging (care for some classically trained hip hop with Black Violin?) audiences of all ages. You may have noticed our name change on the cover of this brochure - we are now The Colonial Performing Arts Center. This necessary transformation in our brand reflects a number of improvements that will be made to our facility that will allow us to expand our programming and audiences while improving the patron experience. We are able to celebrate 95 years in large part due to your consistent support and patronage. Thank you for making our vision a reality for our community. As always, I look forward to seeing you at The Colonial. Alec Doyle, Executive Director PAGE 1 • Season 2019-20 C&S Wholesale Grocers and True North Networks are proud to be Season Underwriters and invite you to share in their support of The Colonial Theatre.

An Example of this Season’s Curated School-Time Live Performances LAYER THE WALLS A performance inspired by the Tenement Museum in NYC THURSDAY, APR 2, 2020 u 9:45 AM u TICKETS $8.50 EACH u GRADE 2 – ADULT 97 Orchard Street, on the Lower East Side of NYC, is a historic tenement that was home to an estimated 7,000 people from over 20 nations between 1863 and 1935. Twenty layers of wallpaper and forty layers of paint were found on the walls of 97 Orchard Street when the Tenement Museum in NYC was purchased and the owners began to explore the space that had been sealed since the 1930s. Almost half of these immigrants were from Ireland, with large numbers of Italians and Jews from Eastern Europe. The Tenement Museum in NYC is a potent reminder that, as a nation shaped by immigration, our brightest hope for the future lies in the lessons of the past. “Like prehistoric sediment, the walls of a building often contain traces and impressions of lives once lived. Liz Parker and Rachel Sullivan created this Manhattan production, for children 7 and older, after a visit to the Tenement Museum on the Lower East Side… this show uses masks, toy-theater techniques and puppets designed by Spica Wobbe to imagine the proud and perilous histories of the building’s Italian, Jewish and Irish occupants.” - Laurel Graeber, New York Times GENEROUSLY SUPPORTED BY: • The New Victory Theater LabWorks - Resident Artists 2015-16 • The Jim Henson Foundation - Family Grant recipient 2017 HOW CAN YOU SUPPORT Attend our annual Colonial Theatre PAGE 51 • Season 2019-20 Education & Outreach Fundraiser: THE EDUCATION AND “Dancing through the Decades” COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT November 9, 2019, 6:30pm PROGRAMS?
