W E LC O M E A special welcome to AFC Wallingford Town, today’s venue for our Berks & Bucks FA U14 Youth Cup Final. It is such a joy to have our County Cup Finals return after a couple of years absence due to the pandemic. I would like to start by congratulating both Aylesbury Vale Dynamos & Ascot United FC on reaching today’s Final, an excellent achievement which both teams can be proud of. On behalf of Berks & Bucks FA I would like to extend a warm welcome to all Match Officials, Players, Club and County Officials and not least the supporters of our two finalists. In today’s busy schedule of programming league and cup fixtures around Covid restrictions and the weather it is very much appreciated that the co-operation between Clubs and Leagues enable us to play today. AYLESBURY VALE DYNAMOS Aylesbury Vale Dynamos is an amalgamation of Aylesbury FC and Bedgrove Dynamos, two local clubs with a rich history in local football.Aylesbury FC enjoyed a long history in senior and junior football dating back to the 1930’s under the previous names of Aylesbury Vale, Haywood United, Belgrave, Stocklake and Negretti and Zambra FC. Alf Buckland, a resident of Finmere Crescent, formed Bedgrove Dynamos in 1968. It was created to fill a void in activities for boys within the Bedgrove area on the south side of Aylesbury. In 1980, Dave Bayliss became involved when he brought his Cub side to the Bedgrove Park. The teams amalgamated and Dave went on to be the chairman for 21 years, stepping down in the year 2000. Over the years the club grew and went on to win many tournaments and trophies, especially at county level. We can boost that we are the only boys club to have a club pennant on display in Barcelona’s trophy room. At the start of the season 2001/02 the club was the largest junior club in the Aylesbury area, running teams from under 8’s through to under 18’s. In the last 20 seasons, across the age groups the club has won 25 divisional titles, and runners up 20 times. In 2019 two became one when the two clubs merged with the intention of allowing the youth of the town to progress through junior football to youth and then adult football at the highest possible level.

ASCOT UNITED The first record of Ascot United was in 1928 and it seems that over the years teams by that name formed and re-formed until 1965 when a men’s team who played their games at Sunninghill, with “after match meetings” in The Wells public house in Cheapside village. Soon after the club gained permission from Ascot Racecourse to convert the land west of coach park 10 into a football pitch where the club is still located today. A wooden clubhouse was built and around this time the team went on to win many prestigious trophies in the years that followed. Since then, the Club has grown to become one of the largest football clubs in the UK. Currently there are over 750 registered players, embracing all ages from age 5 and all levels of ability. Ascot United fields more than 75 teams every weekend including 5 adult teams and 8 girls’ teams. It is supported by over 50 businesses who provide various forms of sponsorship, it is run by over 100 volunteers 80 of whom have formal FA coaching qualifications. The club’s status was underlined in August 2004 when it became an FA Charter Community club, at the time only the second club in Berkshire to receive this award.
