Infrastructure statistics such as boat and yacht manufacturers; Clubs and mooring facilities; importers and dealers of boats and equipment; repair facilities and industry employment are also reviewed. European Union Release Restrictions on the Use of Diisocyanates T he marine industry, as a downstream user of polyurethane, will be impacted by upcoming changes to EU legislation regarding diisocyanates. In particular members should be aware that any workers handling these materials will require training, which is currently being developed with the support of ICOMIA. Diisocyanates and polyols are the two main components of polyurethane. Polyurethane is a polymer and used in the marine industry in coating materials, foam (insulation materials and moulds), sealants, bonding and adhesive materials and a wide variety of other applications (for example elastomers). The first tour takes you to some of Singapore’s top marinas to learn from their excellence in operations and facilities. The one-day tour on 12 April will also include entry to the Singapore Yacht Show for the duration of the four day event. Network with other marina industry members whilst touring the four marinas. As a prelude to the Marinas19 Conference, the second tour takes you to some of Australia’s top boatyards on the Gold Coast to learn from their operations and facilities as part of the Marinas19 Conference. For over 35 years Hart Marine has been manufacturing and building boats in the Mornington Peninsula. Their manufacturing base will be relocated to Yaringa soon as they have outgrown their current location. The marina staff will stay on in addition to new management staff coming on-board in the coming months. Mal Hart, Director of Hart Marine introduced himself to the community by firstly thanking the previous owner Stefan Borzecki. “We at Hart Marine would like to start by thanking Stefan for the wonderful opportunity he has allowed us by handing over the baton of Yaringa. It is something that Stefan and I have been discussing for some time and I am very excited to be a part of the marina industry here in Australia and in particular Western Port. We appreciate Stefan’s hard work, which has developed Yaringa and created the community that it is today.” Stefan Borzecki will continue his work in the marina industry as a director of the MIA and the future expansion and development of the Yaringa Marine precinct. Located within the protected waters of the North Haven boat harbour, 35 South Marina was constructed by Walcon in 2012. It features 76 modern, spacious berths and caters for boats up to 20 meters length. Chris and Andrew, who also own Queensland’s Spinnaker Sound Marina, plan to add a further 28 berths for vessels up to 34 meters length and upgrade the onshore facilities. I N D U S T R Y N E W S 23 Royal Geelong Re-Development Plans T he Royal Geelong Yacht Club (RGYC) have revealed their multi-million dollar re-development plans which will change the face of the waterfront in Geelong. The project aims to increase the use of public recreational spaces by attracting new events, increasing tourism and creating a safer harbour for boaters. Over $19 million has been committed for the redevelopment from the RGYC, City of Greater Geelong, and State and Federal Governments. Plans are due to go to Council this month with the first stage expected to begin in the middle of 2019. Included in the plans are an additional 20 new floating berths and a 550m wave attenuator, which will further protect the boats within the marina and 410m of the structure will be accessible to the public to walk on.
