Welcome 2021 Happy New Year to you! How many ways and times has it been said that last year was an unusual, challenging year? It has been tough on everyone in the Comox Valley and indeed, all around the world. The situation looks bright on the far distant horizon but it will stay the same for some time. We are pleased that we were able to keep Branch 160 open for most of the time last year and our current plan is to continue to do so. Even though we don’t socialize like we did in the past, it’s appreciated that we can open because many of our patrons feel safe to join us for a meal or beverage. Thank you to everyone for pulling together through these changing and tough times. It’s heartwarming to have the understanding cooperation of all our patrons. Our Christmas dinner take-out was a resounding success. We served 100 meals and thanks to all the staff and volunteers that made it happen so smoothly. The current Provincial health orders will remain in place until February 5th. With vaccines on the horizon, it is not the time to let up our guards. Dr. Bonnie Henry is urging everyone to adhere to the guidelines and know that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. If there is anything you need or just someone to talk to, please contact me. I’m looking forward to a positive future. Lynn Edey You may notice that this is the January/February issue of the Log. Without any events, sports or Legion ceremonies to report on, The Log will be published on a bi-monthly basis until there are more events to report. Branch 160 Fundraiser submitted by Tim Ackerman A local author, Judith McIntosh, has just finished publishing a 100 page paperback book about a young girl’s memoirs of WWII. Follow Judith’s experiences in Winnipeg, where she grew up during this time, partially without her Daddy, who had enlisted in the war effort. He was absent from her life for 3 years as he was overseas with the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps. Judith has generously decided that all sale proceeds from the book ($20.00 each) is to be donated to our Branch of the Legion.
