WHAT CAN YOU DO? Top talent is hard to find – and even harder to recruit. According to a recent survey by Indeed, almost 9 in 10 respondents said they find it challenging to find and hire technical talent, with over a third saying they find it “very” challenging. Here’s our advice to attract the top talent to your organization: BE COMPETITIVE 1 Salary and benefits remained the top motivator of tech talent and the number one reason why an employee would leave for another job. If your salaries are not competitive, it is time to reexamine your comp structure. OFFER MORE OPPORTUNITIES TO LEARN According to Dice, the employer willing to offer educational opportunities is the one with a higher likelihood of retaining talent that wants to stay on the cutting 2 edge of the industry. Consider offering each team member a yearly professional development budget for conferences, coding classes, or a professional certification. In addition, offer on the job training and an opportunity for employees to get involved in projects that can build on their existing skills and help them develop new ones. Tech professionals do not want to be tied to one type of work or project for too long. BE FLEXIBLE 3 While remote work options dropped lower on the list of motivators for technologists nationwide, Atlanta residents are faced with the longest commute times in the nation and a lack of public transportation options. Offering flexible work hours and work from home flexibility is necessary…the OTP/ ITP struggle is real. HIRE WITH EFFICIENCY 4 Estimates have been made that the best technical candidates are off the market in 10 days or less. Create a thorough, yet efficient hiring process with the candidate experience in mind. Strike a balance between technical testing, cultural fit assessments, and limit the number of interview steps your candidates will need to go through. PARTNER WITH EXPERTS Using a recruiting firm to help tap passive candidates or to source specialized 5 resources for projects. Recruiting in the tech market is about developing strong relationships with the best talent out there and placing them with the right opportunities at the right time. Our most successful hiring managers understand that the cost of a placement fee is far less than the cost of lost productivity due to an empty seat.
