Business AssetsBusiness Assets Intellectual Property -Trademarks Storage Solutions is an IP rich business with Registered and Unregistered Trademarks, patents and registered designs. The company has a history of protecting the marks and has had considerable success in stopping the infringement of those marks. The company has a number of actionable claims which are believed to be worth well in excess of £1 Million, against organisations large and small. Most of these claims have been handled in house but the company has been supported by some of the best in the IP industry. The Director has also spoken in the Houses of Parliament on the subject. The Director will offer assistance in pursuing these claims and has previously conducted a case in IPEC that supports and strengthens the trademarks. One large retailer has taken steps to follow the actions taken by Amazon in the case Cosmetic Warriors V Amazon and Scottish Trading Standards have taken action in relation to a large Scottish distributor. In both instances no compensation has yet been claimed. The largest importer of Chinese look alike product has also taken action after receipt of a Cease and Desist letter from the company giving rise to a potentially very large claim. SPUR® The biggest of the brands is SPUR® a brand covering a large range of shelving and storage products dating from the 1950’s. This brand is used for the high-end, high quality shelving ranges used in both domestic, commercial and industrial applications. This mark has been in constant use since that time and is protected by word marks in Europe, United Kingdom, Norway, Sweden, South Africa. Enquiries are received from the US, Canada, Australia and the products are widely specified. An order is currently in progress for a repeat contract in Qatar and a number of Universities in the UK specify the product as standard. This gives rise to a quote bank of some significance. The European and UK registrations are UK00001550968, Class 20; EU013068671, Classes 6, 16, 20, 21; UK00002579833, Class 20 and SPUR SHELVING ® UK00002579833, Class 20. The company also has the unregistered formerly Spur sub-brands Steel-lok, Strongbeam, Strongman, Handyman, Cliffhanger, Easyhang, T Slot, Edge Slot, SpaceBuster, Dotted Angle and Brandhill.
Business Assets ZAMBA® The Zamba brand was the main brand used by Nicholl & Wood of Halifax for their shelving brands from at least 1983 when it was supplied to B&Q but possibly as far back as the 1950’s. This brand emanated from Cornwall and is the name for Forrest in some West African dialects. It was very widely used in Europe where it was sold in a number of DIY chains until 2007 when Nicholl & Wood ceased trading. Storage Solutions used this brand exclusively until acquisition of the Spur brand having acquired this as part of a package from Nicholl and Wood and then used it for industrial shelving products. It was registered for the first time in 2008. UK00002497359, Classes 6, 16 PROSTORE® Prostore was originally registered in 2007 and the second mark was acquired as part of the High Court case against Masters (London) and others. This brand is used for DIY shelving and storage products. Including lighter gauge versions of the Spur range. UK00002477897, Class 20; UK00002453489 Class 6 EFF® Eff is a widely used brand both as a word and as a word mark. The company has objected to a conflicting mark of the same spelling and a response is due that may further strengthen the mark and give rise to a claim against the applicant for the other mark. This system was instrumental in us winning major contracts for TNT including a 1million box archive and two major distribution centres for 99P Stores the last having 44000 pallet locations. The program needs no technical skill to operate and a novice can input the size and weight of a pallet, the height in the building, width and length complete with aisle width and it will work out the number of pallets in the building , the cost of the materials and labour. This uses a form of artificial intelligence to offer the optimal cost option. There are more advanced features that a technical person can use and does the job that could take several days in less than 5 minutes. The benefit is that multiple options can be run through the system when prior to this system being available, a best guess would be used and only experience came into play. The other advantage is that the system calculates the quantities and hence errors are eliminated. This system can work with different rack manufacturers products as it works from tables of data rather than a specific design. Eff Commerce Suite E-Commerce, Content Management and Back Office order processing system. Eff Commerce is a software package that has been designed and developed for Storage Solutions Ltd with the original incarnation being developed in 1999. The system has gone through various iteration but now forms the backbone of the order processing system feeding information into the separate traffic light system which is used to track orders as Sage does not have that function. It also enables margins to be checked on orders and records items that require manufacture as orders come in enabling production to plan production in a timely manner. Along side these two systems there is also a CRM system that records customer details and contracts. The CRM database is very basic to look at but fully functional and has many thousands of records many with email addresses. This system is in the process of being updated as the websites are not fully mobile friendly and Google has made multiple changes to their algorithms which are causing changes to be made. The product is coded by independent progrmmers who own the rights in in the code. Storage Solutions has the right to use multiple copies and offer a service using the software. Support would need to be negotiated separately. The system has been very good for the company and the SEO built into the system enables some pages to hit position 1 on Google.

Production Plant & Equipment The company own an extensive selection of quality production machinery including production lines, rolling mills, presses, powder coat painting plants, warehouse equipment and we refer you to appendix 1 & 2 for a detailed schedule and photographs of the same. In addition, the company have invested into bespoke manufacturing tooling for it’s full product range over the years.
