Program Youth Registration ACTIVITES & Policies • Registration will open March 1 for all activities unless otherwise noted. Participants may register online at grimesparkandrecration.ezfacility.com • What is your cancellation policy? Programs, activities, and special events which are cancelled, postponed or changed in location will be announced as soon as possible. Please check Facebook, or grimesiowa.gov for updates. Grimes Parks and Recreation reserves the right to cancel a program or an activity that does not meet the minimum number of participants necessary to offer the program. • What is your program refund policy? Refund requests must be made at least TWO WEEKS prior to the first day of the program, or prior to rosters being made for leagues. A $10 non-refundable handling fee will be deducted from the refund when an enrollee withdraws at least TWO WEEKS prior to the first day of the program. Once the TWO WEEK deadline passes or rosters are formed, refunds will not be issued. • What is your facility rental refund policy? No refunds will be given for cancellations or transferred to a different date. If the Grimes Community Complex closes due to weather or COVID-19, refunds will be issued within 30 days after the event. • What are your COVID-19 protocols and policies? Policies will vary between programs, activities and special events. Policies for programs and activities that are led by Parks & Recreation staff, contracted staff or volunteers will be determined by staff, and participants will be notified of any protocols prior to the program or activity. Policies for special events with a larger, public gathering will be determined by local or state government officials. Attendees will be notified of protocols via social media and the City’s website. • What is your photo/video policy? Photos/videos taken of participants and guests at programs, activities, special events and festivals may be used in promotional materials, press releases, and on the City of Grimes website and any City social media channels. • Adult Programs: Must be 18 years or older to participate and can’t play on two teams unless noted in registration. Team rosters must be submitted to Recreation Office 1 week prior to first game. • All Programs: Details (time, date, price) of every program we offer are subject to change at any given time. Youth ACTIVITIES ACTIVITES Tiny Kickers Tiny Kickers is geared toward a fun and rewarding experience in a low-competitive atmosphere that is taught by parent volunteers. This program teaches the basics of soccer with practices and playing 4v4 games. Parent Volunteers are NEEDED!!! Dates Session 1: May 9 - May 25 (Deadline is April 20 at 12:00pm) Session 2: June 13 - June 29 (Deadline is May 25 at 12:00pm) Session 3: July 11 - July 27 (Deadline is June 22 at 12:00pm) Days Mondays and Wednesdays Times/ 5:30pm - 6:15pm (Ages 3-4) Ages 6:45pm - 7:30pm (Ages 4-5) *4-year-olds have option of choosing time slot Cost $45 per player per session. Basketball Camp — T’s Skills and Drills These camps provide a positive, fun-filled learning Youth experience. The camp is designed to provide personal ACTIVITES attention to help young athletes improve their basketball fundamentals. The campers drill and compete within their age groups in various skill competitions such as dribbling, passing, shooting and defense. Beyond individual skill development, we emphasize the importance of team play to all campers. These camps set the framework for successful future athletes. Dates Session 1: March 14, 15, 16 Session 2: April 25, 27, May 2, 4 Session 3: May 16, 18, 23, 25 Session 4: June 6, 7, 8, 9 Session 5: June 20, 21, 22, 23 Volleyball with Coach Mike 2022 Session 6: July 11, 13, 18, 20 For all abilities to improve on their own skills! Session 7: July 25, 27, August 1, 3 This clinic is all drills with some lead-up games Times Vary based on age that will help you play the game of volleyball. Grades Entering 1st - 6th Each player will have their own ball so they will do numerous activities in a fast-paced Cost $30-$40 per session environment. Youth ACTIVITIES ACTIVITES Explosive Performance Speed and Agility Camp Explosive Performance Speed and Agility camp provides youth athletes the chance to experience speed and agility training, all of which can be tailored to their specific sport and needs. No matter the sport, participants in grades kindergarten - 6th will gain an edge on their competition. The focus of the camp will be ensuring campers have fun and have a memorable experience while engaging in a competitive environment. Youth ACTIVITES Run for Fun in the Sun This program gets kids interested in the sport of running in a fun and positive way. Begin with a team builder warm-up, then go through dynamic warm-ups, followed by running drills, stretching, instruction/pointers, and end with fun games. The last day ends with a for-fun relay and more exciting games. Dates Monday, June 27 - Thursday, June 30 Times 9:00am - 9:50am OR 10:00am - 10:50am Grades Boys and Girls Entering 1st - 4th Fee $45 per child Location Grimes South Sports Complex Instructor Matt Pries- HS Track and Cross Country Coach Youth Soccer Camp This program is for all skill levels. Whether it’s your first time playing or continuing to build on skills you already have. This camp will work on individual skill work and working together as a team in small sized games. Make sure your cleats are tied and ready for soccer camp! Youth Soccer Camp is for both boys and girls! Explore with acrylic paint, portrait and firgure drawing, creating jewelry and more! Choose the days you wish to attend and create your very own masterpiece! Dates Session 1: Monday, June 27: Painting Camp Session 2: Tuesday, June 28: Drawing Session 3: Wednesday, June 29: Sculpture Session 4: Thursday, June 30: Jewelry Making Session 5: Monday, July 18: Painting Session 6: Tuesday, July 19: Drawing Session 7: Wednesday, July 20: Sculpture Session 8: Thursday, July 21: Jewelry Making Times 9:00am - 12:00pm Ages 5-13 Fee $36 per session (must sign up for each day you wish to attend) Location Grimes Community Complex Instructor Danell Duncan- Art Teacher at Dallas-Center Grimes HS Grimes Safety City Grimes Safety City will include various activities involving anti-bullying, pedestrian rules, street crossing, stop lights, fire department, respect for authority, playground safety, bike safety, and many more. A miniature “city” will be used to teach students correct street crossing techniques using tricycles (as vehicles) and by walking. Special appearances by the Fire Department, Police Department, teachers, and more. Students will learn about safety and have much more one-on-one contact with volunteers during this course. Youth ACTIVITES Summer Adventures Weekly Field Trips Sign your child up for our afternoon field trips! Ride along with Grimes Parks & Recreation as we visit different area attractions and activities! Parents will receive a detailed week and trip itinerary one week before the scheduled camp. No refunds or transfers to another week are allowed for these trips, similar to our other programming. In the event of rain, we will try again the next day and notifications will be sent out. Spend the week learning from the great Elias. From cards to coins and cups, we will delve into magic with everyday household objects. Come join local magician Elias Arbuckle as he shares his wealth of knowledge in the magical arts for an unforgettable week of fun! Dates Monday - Friday, July 11 - 15 Times 9:30am - 12:00pm (Final performance is Friday for parents starting at 11:30am) Ages Boys and Girls 7 - 12 Fee $120- all supplies needed for class are included Location Grimes Community Complex Instructor Elias Arbuckle - Though young in age, Elias is considered a professional within the magic community. He has been honing his skills for the past eight years and working professionally for the past five years. Youth ACTIVITIES ACTIVITES Martial Arts America- Tiny Tigers Taekwondo Interested? Stop in for a FREE class and talk with an instructor about joining! Our Tiny Tiger program is an age appropriate version of Taekwondo that will help direct that energy into confidence and character building skills. Days Tuesdays and Thursdays. Ongoing program, join in any time Time 6:00pm - 6:30pm Ages 4 - 7 (Must be 4 by the time the class starts.) Fee $55 per participant per month (Plus one-time $55 joiner’s fee) Location Grimes Community Complex Gym Taekwondo by Martial Arts America Stop in for a FREE class and talk with an instructor about joining! Martial Arts America has been around since 1985 in Central Iowa and now comes to the Grimes Community Complex to teach you the disciplines involved in taekwondo. These classes allow families to take part together. They provide a positive atmosphere for everyone to improve their mind and their body. Dates Tuesdays and Thursdays. Youth ACTIVITES Kids Zone This program provides a place for parents to bring their children to play in a safe and fun environment, and it’s a great way to make new friends! This is not a structured play group, but rather an open space for kids to move around, play games, laugh, have fun and burn off some energy! We provide the space and toys; you provide the fun and supervision! PLEASE NOTE: this is not a drop off program; all children must be accompanied by a responsible adult. By adapting the pace, equipment or nature of an activity, Courage League can provide a safe and accessible environment where participants can go at their own speed. All programs will include super hero training, fitness, group games, music/movement, seasonal sports plus lots of fun and social skill development. Youth Community EVENTS ACTIVITES Earth Day Help clean our Earth and our city! Event information will be posted on City website and Grimes Parks and Recreation Facebook page closer to date. Date Friday, April 22 Governors Days- Kiddie Parade Time TBD A parade just for kids/families This parade kicks off our annual community event, Grimes Giving Garden the Grimes Governors Days! This is a dress-up, let’s Enjoy gardening? Or want to give it a try? Grimes make believe, costumed event for kids. Little ones Giving Garden allows people to grow produce are asked to dress up in their costumes and “strut and meet new people at the same time. their stuff” down Main Street in Grimes. This is a Fee $170 per team family friendly environment, where you call your own. Pickleball will be played at Grimes South Sports Complex. The league has Co-Ed Adult Kickball League space for 12 teams. Team registration only. NEW PROGRAM ALERT! Youth Adult ACTIVITIES ACTIVITES Polk County Seniors Meal Site at Grimes GCC Enjoy a meal with other Seniors through Polk County. Site activities include cards, Wii Bowling, BINGO, lunch, and conversation. Monthly calendars are located at the complex for you to pick up. Days Monday through Friday *No meals on holidays when the GCC is closed in Grimes or when Des Moines Public Schools are closed due to weather Jazzercise Jazzercise offers group fitness classes for all Times 9:30am - 1:30pm levels.
