PROGRAMME - HIGHLIGHTS
VISUAL ARTSMaster subtitle style Click to edit In The Tracks of Art opening exhibition, Royal Museums of Fine Arts Belgium, Brussels Opening exhibition of the festival including artists such as Monet, Caillebotte, Boccioni, Daumier, Magritte and Spilliaert. For the very first time this exhibition explores how the train has impacted society, how its invention fascinated and at the same time frightened but strongly nourished artists, from the impressionists up to the surrealists. The unique ensemble brings together paintings, drawings, literature, photography and film and is linked to contemporary perspectives via installations, performances and talks. Claude Monet, Arrival of the Normandy Train, Gare Saint-Lazare, 1877 Ivo Pannaggi, Speeding Train, 1922; Edouard Manet, The Railway, 1872-1873; Léon Spilliaert, The Lady in the Train, 1908.
VISUAL ARTSMaster subtitle style Click to edit Rinus Van de Velde: Inner Travels exhibition, BOZAR Centre for Fine Art, Brussels The exhibition explores the universe of Belgian artist Rinus Van de Velde, who is widely known for his large-scale charcoal drawings, and places his work in dialogue with Dürer as well as some of the most significant artists from the 20th and 21st centuries. The story is narrated through Van de Velde’s drawings, sculptures and his new film as well as through the works of other artists. As a prime example of a mobility machine, the train takes up a central place: it propels the story forwards and symbolizes the artists’ (inner) travels. http://rinusvandevelde.com/ Including performance programme Rinus Van de Velde, Everyone Who Reproduces that which Drives Him to Creation with Directness and Authenticity Belongs to Us, 2010; view from Rinus Van de Velde’s studio, Antwerp.

VISUAL ARTSMaster subtitle style Click to edit Orient Express heritage exhibition, Train World, Brussels The Orient Express still resonates today as a metaphor for the golden age of travel. A pure product of its era, it could only have been born under specific economic, technical, industrial and political conditions. Moreover, the Orient Express witnessed an evolving society. Criss-crossing numerous frontiers, the Orient Express remains associated with travel and adventure, and never failed to inspire writers and filmmakers. The exhibition will evoke the imaginations it awakened and the dreams it engendered, from the most famous to the most tenuous, without forgetting the craftsmen who contributed to building its legend.

Famous French choreographer Boris Charmatz structures the hall of Brussels North Station and the former Train Museum starting from one of dance’s essential elements: the twosome. Using the principle of circulation found in La Ronde by Arthur Schnitzler, in which couples are recomposed over and over again, this round dance mixes dancers, actors, musicians and singers. An 8 hour long uninterrupted series of duos. The beginning and the ending takes the form of a participative event in the big hall of Brussels North: first a warm up and skill-sharing workshop, at the end a performance with amateurs and professionals, mixing different couple dancing styles.

BANG! Big Bang City Festival Leuven
From 16 October 2021 until 30 January 2022 Leuven will host a new cultural city festival about the origins of the cosmos.
THEME: BIG BANG THEORY The central focus is the human fascination with the cosmos and its origins. The choice of this theme is no coincidence. The Big Bang theory was first proposed in the last century by the Leuven professor Georges Lemaître.
An exciting theme that will appeal to everyone… The festival will sketch a rich picture of ideas that have captivated universal interest throughout the centuries: the eternal fascination of humanity, looking up at the stars and asking questions about the origins, form and meaning of the immeasurable universe. The festival connects the past, the present and the future and fosters cross-cultural encounter.
PROGRAMME In the autumn of 2021, we are unleashing a new Big Bang and causing a cultural explosion in Leuven! The festival features an ambitious combination of art and science in unique exhibitions, concerts, installations, performances, events, lectures and more.
COOPERATION BANG! is an initiative of KU[N]ST Leuven, the collaborative platform of KU Leuven and the City of Leuven. Every two years, this non-profit platform organizes a major three- month cultural city festival in cooperation with numerous partners from both inside and outside Leuven.
22 October 2021 - 16 January 2022 UNIQUE EXHIBITIONS There will be two major exhibitions for international audiences organized at two impressive locations in Leuven: Museum M and the University Library. Visitors will have the opportunity to see unique artworks and loans from international museums. From antiquity to brand-new contemporary art.
Museum M Imagining the Universe M Leuven is planning a prestigious exhibition focused on the varied ways in which the universe was imagined in art and thought from antiquity until the 19th century. We will tell the story through artefacts of the highest quality from important national and international collections.
