Space Adventure Camp Butler Wilderness Outpost 2022 Leaders Guide
Greetings from Space Adventure Camp!

We are very excited about the 2022 camping season and hope you and your Scouts are too!

After coming off a tough two years with the pandemic, we know this summer will not be one like any
other. We have made a few changes to our program. We have combined some old and new to create
something out of this world!

Cub Scouts of all ages are invited to join us in the space themed summer camp. Nestled in the Heart of
the Paul Bunyan State Forest in Central Minnesota, Butler Wilderness Outpost offers families
opportunities to enjoy the outdoors, featuring tent, cabin, and limited RV camping. The camp has
modern bathroom and shower facilities along with warm delicious meals in the Dining Hall. Cub
Adventure Camp provides numerous activities for Cub Scouts including archery, swimming, crafts,
fishing, boating and more. Come experience adventure, advancement and achievement while enjoying
time with friends and family!

You can sign up anytime on our website at https://nlcbsa.org/campingprograms/adventurecamp
We continue to make frequent updates to our website as well as our Facebook and Instagram pages in
preparation not only for Cub Adventure Camp, but all our year-round programs.

COVID 19 Pandemic
There are over 420 Scout camps in the United States, in 2020, Camp Wilderness was 1 of 65 that
successfully ran with 0 cases of COVID 19. In 2021 we followed our same procedures and had another
successful camping season with 0 cases of COVID 19.

Our staff have the experience of running a camp during the middle of a pandemic, and we are
confident in our ability to do it again. We will be taking extra steps in cleaning and the sanitation of
everything at camp. This includes extra cleaning during mealtimes, shower times, and during program
activities. Our staff is trained in these cleaning protocols.

It is our policy that if any person in a unit fails the pre-camp screenings, they are not allowed to
come into camp. If one person in a vehicle fails the screening, that entire unit will not be allowed in. If
anyone is feeling sick or having symptoms of COVID 19, please stay home. The Northern Lights Council is
highly encouraging all participants to be fully vaccinated 2 weeks prior to their arrival at camp.

Our plan moving into the 2022 camping season is to have 2 bubbles. One bubble is the
participants, and the other is the Camp Wilderness staff. Our staff will be maintaining a 6-foot distance
from all participants, and when the social distance cannot be met, they will put a face covering on. Face
coverings will be mandatory in all buildings. All meals will be served indoors with seating being outside.
Camp will be open; all participants will have the opportunity to roam freely. There will not be assigned
Trading Post and shower times.

We will be monitoring the local and state health department guidelines as summer nears. We
will keep units up to date with changes that we make to our summer program. It is our goal to provide a
quality program to all our units, while staying safe. Please refer to our website, www.nlcbsa.org and our
social media pages for news and up to date information on our COVID updates .

Please note that everything in this guide is subject to change, as this pandemic is constantly changing.

Forms to Bring

It is important to remember to bring all the necessary forms for the members of
your troop. It can be difficult to keep track of everything that is necessary. To
help, please plan on the following:
      • Health Forms, parts A and B for all participants – A doctor’s physical is
         NOT required
      • Printed Pack roster of those ATTENDING camp.
      • Swim Classification Form – if completed before arriving at camp
      • Proof of Unit Accident and Sickness Insurance, if not from NLC

Check in Day and Procedures

Please check your email prior to your arrival, you will be scheduled a time to
arrive. If you are not traveling as a pack, please find a meeting location prior to
your arrival, and enter camp together as a pack.

Check-in times for Packs begins at 1:00 PM and ends at 3:00 PM. If you will not
be able to check-in at your assigned time, please notify us in advance.

The first stop during check-in will be at the Andrew Nelson Welcome Center on the main road coming into camp.
Please have your main leader check-in with the camp staff and have your health forms ready. After checking in
at the Welcome Center, your whole pack will go to their campsite. A staff member will meet you there to go
through the rest of check in.

The final stop during check-in will be at the waterfront. Make sure you pack your swim gear so it’s readily
accessible without unpacking your entire vehicle. If your Pack completed the swim test before camp, you are still
required to visit the waterfront for the safety speech. If you need to complete or retake the swim test, you can
do so at this time. Once you have completed this portion of check-in, you are done and can head to your campsite.

                                                               Checkout and Final Payment Process
