It’s from this base that the Health Trust runs cooking initiatives that promote good healthy eating to our community. The Health Trust has an Events and Relationship Manager who coordinates the centre’s bookings and actively promotes it as a facility for hire and an asset to the people of South Kaipara.
Food Revolution Food is such a crucial part of our lives, far more than just our physical health and well-being. Our lives are richer for the shared experience of sitting down to enjoy a wonderful, home-cooked meal made with love and care. That’s why the kitchen at Te Whare Oranga ō Parakai is so central to our building and our philosophy. We want our kitchen to be alive with enthusiastic students — both young and old(er) — who want to learn more about how to cook creatively and healthily. Among our food-related initiatives are: • Monthly Kids’ Kitchen Cooking Classes which are hugely popular for children aged 3-12 years old. • Cooking Classes for students from local primary schools held weekly during the school term with an Around The World theme. • Operation of the Kaipara College Tuck Shop. • Catering for events and meetings held at Te Whare Oranga ō Parakai. • Soon-to-be launched project supplying meals to families leaving Helensville Birthing Centre with a newborn. “Food not only fuels our bodies, but nourishes our souls and well- being. By teaching our community the life skills of cooking and igniting a passion for real food we can help our community develop a positive relationship with food the healthier outcomes that’ll bring.” Keryn Reardon, Kitchen & Catering Manager
