SPEAKERS ZHANG Lubiao He is currently the Director-General, Researcher Fellow and Doctoral Supervisor at the Foreign Economic Cooperation Center (FECC) of China’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs (MARA). He used to be the Deputy Director-General at the Institute of Agricultural Economics and development (IAED) of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS), the Director-General at the Department of International Cooperation, CAAS, the Director-General at China Agriculture for Trade and Economy (ATPC), MARA. (He also served as the Secretary-General of the Agricultural Industry Branch of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) and the Secretary-General of the Agricultural Industry Branch of the China Chamber of International Commerce (ICC). ) He got a doctor’s degree in agricultural economics from Nanjing Agricultural University in 1992 and served as a doctoral supervisor in agricultural economics at CAAS in 2002. He has guided and cultivated nearly a hundred masters, doctors, post- doctoral professionals, and academic leaders at home and abroad. He is invited to act as a distinguished professor at the United Nations University for Peace (UPEACE) and an expert consultant for many international organizations such as the World Bank, African Development Bank, and World Food Programme. SPEAKERS YE Xingqing Director-General, Rural Economy Research Department, Development Research Centre of the State Council. Mr. YE Xingqing started his career in 1986 and received a Ph.D. degree in 1995. Presently, Mr. YE is Director General and Research Fellow, Research Department of Rural Economy, Development Research Centre of the State Council (DRC); Member of the Expert Committee on Rural Revitalization, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs; Member of the Academic Committee, Institute for China Rural Studies, Tsinghua University; Research Fellow, National Academy of Agricultural and Rural Development, China Agricultural University. Mr. YE has conducted studies on policies for agricultural and rural development at the State Council’s Leading Group Office of Poverty Alleviation, State Council’s Research Office and DRC in succession. He has published academic books like Economic Growth in China’s Edge Zones, Modernization and Rural-Urban Migration, and over 300 academic papers on newspapers and journals. In addition, since 1993, Mr. YE was the keyperson annually to draft the policy documents, including No.1 Documents issued by the CPC Central Committee from 2004 to 2017. He has received many awards for excellent investigation reports and papers from Ministry of Agriculture, State Council’s Research Office and DRC. 9
SPEAKERS Damien PLAN Counsellor for Agriculture European Union Delegation to China, Beijing. Damien Plan is an agronomist engineer, graduated from the “Ecole Nationale Supérieure d’Agronomie de Montpellier” (ENSAM) in France. Damien Plan joined the European Commission in 2009. He initially worked at the European Commission Joint Research Centre. In 2014 he joined the Directorate General for Agriculture and Rural Development where he worked successively as team leader for commodity crops markets (Cereals, Rice, Oilseeds and Protein Crops) and as International Relations Officer for South- East Asia (ASEAN countries). Damien Plan is Counsellor for Agriculture at the EU Delegation to China in Beijing since September 2019.Prior to joining the European Commission, Damien Plan worked for fifteen years in the private sector, more specifically in the agri-food sector (animal feed industry, starch industry, seeds industry), where he held various manager positions in regulatory affairs, public affairs and business development, both in Europe (Brussels) and in South East Asia (Singapore). WEN Tiejun Professor WEN Tiejun is Director, Centre of Rural Revitalization, Peking University; Executive Dean of the Institute of Rural Reconstruction of China, Southwest University; and Executive Dean of the Institute of Rural Reconstruction of the Straits, Fujian Agricultural and Forestry University, China. He is a leading scholar on macro-economics and agrarian issues in China and has served in many capacities including Independent Non-Executive Director of Postal Savings Bank of China and of Agricultural Bank of China, Chief Editor of China Reform, and policy advisor to the State Council and the Ministry of Ecology and Environment of China. 10
SPEAKERS ZHANG Jinwang With effect from January 1st 2021, Dr.Jinwang Zhang as Managing Director (CEO) will assume the sole responsibility and leadership of CLAAS Agricultural Machinery Trading (Beijing) Co., Ltd. and steer the reorientation of the CLAAS and CHUNYU's sales and service activities in line with the China strategy. Dr. Jinwang Zhang has been with the CLAAS Group since 2014. Prior to his current position as COO of CLAAS Shandong, he held various management positions accumulating a rich range of experience, including 4 years as Managing Director of OTTO-Fuchs Technology in Shenyang in Northern China and before that, 5 years as CEO of Putzmeister Machinery in Shanghai. Alfonso ALBA Country Division Head for Crop Science Greater China, China Chairman of German Agribusiness Alliance Effective July 1, 2020, Alfonso Alba takes over the responsibility as Country Division Head for Crop Science Greater China and becomes a member of Bayer Greater China Country Leadership Team. Prior to this, Alfonso was the Head of Crop Strategy Soybeans for the Crop Science division, based in America. Alfonso joined Bayer in 2010, based in Brazil, heading the Global Corn and Soybean Seed business. He became the Head of the PACA region (a collection of countries as Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, Venezuela and all countries in Central America) for the Crop Science division, based in Colombia in 2015. Alfonso comes with over 35 years of experience in the agriculture industry, with focus on strategy development, crop protection, seeds and traits, marketing, finance, and mergers and acquisitions. After beginning his career as a breeder and product development role in seed industry in Spain, Alfonso joined Cargill Seed Division managing their Seed businesses in Spain, Argentina and Brazil. After Monsanto acquired Cargill Seed Business, Alfonso worked 12 years in Monsanto leading its business in the Mediterranean region, Argentina, Brazil and Western Europe and took a variety of general managing roles.Alfonso has an MBA from IMD Business School, Switzerland and a university degree as “Agricultural Engineer” from University of Cordoba, Spain. Alfonso was born in a rural area South of Spain into a family of farmers who cultivate olive plantation. 11
SPEAKERS MEI Yonghong He graduated from the Department of Agriculture, Huazhong Agricultural University (HZAU) in 1987, and worked successively in China’s Ministry of Agriculture (MOA) and China’s Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST). He was once the Deputy Director-General of the General Office and Director-General of the Research Office, and Director-General of the Department of Policy, Regulation, and Innovation System, MOST. In October 2010, he was transferred to be the Deputy Secretary of CPC Jining Municipal Committee and the Mayor of Jining, Shandong. In September 2015, he resigned and joined Shenzhen Huada Gene Technology Co. Ltd. He was once the Director-General of China National GeneBank (CNGB). He is currently the CEO of Country Garden Agriculture and the Chairman of BGI Agriculture. Harald VON WITZKE Prof. Dr. Dr. h. c. Harald von Witzke is emeritus of Humboldt University of Berlin. He received his academic credentials from Göttingen University. From 1983 to 1994 he served on the faculty of the Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics at the University of Minnesota, St. Paul, USA. In 1994, he joined Humboldt University where he chaired the unit of International Agricultural Trade and Development. For almost two decades his work has focused on issues related to sustainable world food security. He has just finished a book manuscript entitled “Ökodämmerung der Landwirtschaft? Hunger, Climate Protection and Sustainability.” Presently he is preparing an English language version with the working title: „Twilight of Organic Agriculture: Hunger, Climate Protection and Sustainability.“ 12
SPEAKERS Jürgen RITTER Dr. Jürgen Ritter is the German Managing Director of the Sino- German Agricultural Centre (DCZ) since April 2018. Graduated in Chinese Studies and Political Sciences from the University of Tübingen. Worked as lecturer at the Institute of Chinese Studies of the University of Tübingen for nine years. Since 2001 Jürgen Ritter has been involved in the implementation of several cooperation projects between the European Union and China, mainly in the fields of Village Governance and EU-China Policy Dialogue. Martin SCHNEIDER Born in 1981 Studies of agricultural economics at Martin-Luther-University of Halle-Wittenberg (2000-2005) Member at the Chair of Agricultural Economics at Martin-Luther- University Halle Wittenberg, working in the project: „preagro II“– joint research project around the topic of Precision Farming (2005-2007) Doctoral thesis: „The econonmic potential of Precison Farming with respect to risk aspects“ 2008 – 2019: Working at Agricon GmbH – medium sized company, provider and developer of smart farming technology – as head of product manager. SPEAKERS XUE Tingwu President and Director of China Animal Husbandry Group (the largest Chinese SOE in Animal Husbandry and the major shareholder of Mataura Valley Milk, BODCO Limited). Chairman of Mataura Valley Milk, BODCO Limited and Nouriz. Mr. Xue has spent over 30 years in China’s animal husbandry industry and health/nutrition industry, demonstrated strong leadership, management skills and in-depth knowledge of markets. Mr. Xue obtained his EMBA from University of International Business and Economics and a Bachelor's degree in Veterinary Science from Nanjing Agricultural University. HOU Jie Mr. Hou Jie joined Big Dutchman for about 10 years as the Director of Customer Solutions, providing solutions to customers' specific needs and actual situations. He participated in the design, construction and operation of many large-scale livestock farms in China. Mr. Hou Jie has rich experience in poultry and livestock equipment, farm design and management. He has profound knowledge of the digitization of livestock and poultry breeding industry chain and related equipment. ZHAO Zukai He is the Chairman and General Manager of Wuhan Tianzhong Animal Husbandry Co., Ltd., which is a subsidiary company of Shenzhen Jinxinnong Technology Co., Ltd., Vice Chairman of China Animal Husbandry Association, Vice Chairman of Hubei Leading Enterprises in Agricultural Industrialization Association, and Vice Chairman of Wuhan Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Association. He was once the Deputy to the Fifth People’s Congress of Huangpi District, Wuhan. With nearly 30 years of management experience in the pig industry, he has a keen insight into the pig industry and its development trends as well as unique management concepts. He graduated from the College of Animal Science, South China Agricultural University with a bachelor’s degree in animal science. 14
SPEAKERS WANG Lianzeng Born in Handan, Hebei Province, he is a Senior Animal Husbandry Expert. He graduated from Peking University with a master’s degree in economics and management. He is currently the Chairman of Huayu Agricultural Science and Technology Co., Ltd., Vice Chairman of China Animal Husbandry Association, Chairman of National Poultry Industry Association, which is a branch of China Animal Husbandry Association, a member of China Association of Agricultural Leading Enterprises (CAALE), Vice Chairman of Hebei Association of Agricultural Leading Enterprises, Vice Chairman of Hebei Animal Husbandry Association,a part-time professor and guest professor at Renmin University of China. He has been engaged in poultry breeding and incubation marketing for 39 years and has rich professional knowledge and practical experience. He focuses on adopting domestic advanced science and technology, introducing first-class equipment and talents, and enabling the company to be at the forefront of the industry with cost, scale, and technical advantages. He has successively won numerous awards, such as the “Special Contribution Award for the Top Ten Leaders in Achieving Prosperity in Rural China”, “Advanced Worker in China’s Animal Husbandry Industry”, “Figure of the Year in China’s Laying Hen Industry”,“Outstanding Chinese Private Entrepreneur”, “Advanced Worker of the 6th Advanced Workers Conference of China Animal Husbandry Industry”, “New Confucian Businessmen of China’s Three Rural Issues for Rural Revitalization”,“2020 Hero of Poverty Alleviation in Animal Husbandry Industry.” He was elected as the Deputy to the 13th National People’s Congress in January 2018. Isabella LORENZINI Dr. Isabella Lorenzini was born in Bolzano, Italy. In 2010 she moved to Munich to study veterinary medicine at Ludwig- Maximilian University. After her graduation in 2016, she conducted her PhD research on automised detection of lameness in dairy cows at the Institute for agricultural engineering and animal husbandry of the Bavarian State Research Centre for Agriculture. Since November 2019, she is project manager of the experimental field DigiMilch, which is funded by the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture and which has a focus on digitalisation in the entire process chain of milk production. 15
SPEAKERS ZHOU Qiren Qiren Zhou is Boya Chair Professor of Peking University, and Senior Professor of Economics at National School of Development, Peking University. He’s a member of the Expert Committee of National Development Planning for the 13th -14th Five Year Plan, Member of Shanghai Decision-making Advisory Committee, and Member of Entrepreneur Advisory Meeting of Hainan Provincial Government. He was former Dean of National School of Development at Peking University, Member of the Monetary Policy Committee of the People’s Bank of China, and Member of the State Council Health Reform Advisory Commission. In the early days, he served and was committed in investigation and research for national rural development at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and the State Council, after graduation from Renmin University of China. He received his Ph.D. degree from the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA). In January 1996, he joined China Centre for Economic Research (CCER), the precursor of National School of Development at Peking University. His research fields focus on Property Rights and Contracts, Institutional Change and Economic Development, Monetary and Land System, and Innovation Incentives and Behavior. For decades, he has been deeply engaged in observation and research of China’s reform and development. He advocates Real-world Economics and explores the truth behind the phenomena. He obtained Sun Yefang Award in economics. KE Bingsheng Dr. Bingsheng Ke,Professor of Agricultural Economics at China Agricultural University. He has a long record of research accomplishments on issues related to agricultural economics and rural development. He is also a senior agricultural policy adviser to top policy makers in China. He earned his B.S. degree in 1982 from Peking University, his M.S. degree in Economics in 1984 from Beijing Agricultural University (now China Agricultural University), and his Ph.D degree in Agronomy in 1989 from the University of Hohenheim in Germany. He served as the President of China Agricultural University during 2008-2017. 16

SPEAKERS CHEN Peihong He is the Vice President of Jiangsu Provincial Agricultural Reclamation and Development Corporation Co.,Ltd (SKIAD). As an agricultural extension researcher, he has been engaged in agricultural technology extension and management for many years. He was once the Deputy Head of the Jiangsu Linhai Farm Co.,Ltd., the Deputy Director of the Department of Agricultural Development, Jiangsu Nongken Group Co., Ltd., the General Manager of the Planting Management Center, SKIAD, the Director of Jiangsu Association of Agricultural Science Societies (JAASS), and the Executive Director of Jiangsu Society for Plant Pathology (JSSPP). SHI Yuelin He was born in August 1964. He holds a PhD in agronomy from Southwest Agricultural University (SWAU). He is currently the Second-Class Counsel at Qingdao Bureau of Agriculture and Rural Affairs. PENG Nanfeng He is the Vice President of Beijing Yimutian Xinnong Network Technology Co., Ltd. He graduated from the College of Foreign Languages and Cultures (CFLC) at Xiamen University (XMU) with a bachelor’s degree. After graduation in 1994, he entered China’s Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation (now the Ministry of Commerce, MOC) and was responsible for Chinese enterprises’ “going global” affairs. He once served as a diplomat in the Economic and Commercial Office of the Chinese Embassies in Turkmenistan and Estonia. In 2014, he joined Yimutian in charge of public affairs. He received PhD in Agricultural Economics from the University of Kiel. His research interests include food economics, consumer behaviours, and development economics, with emphasis on the food value chain and nutrition-related health issues in China. He has published over thirty journal articles and policy briefs, and leads or participates in a number of German or Sino- German cooperating projects. 19
SPEAKERS LI Yumei (Moderator) Dr. Li Yumei, Associate Professor, Department of Law, College of Humanities and Development, China Agricultural University, Exeutive director of Agricultural and Rural Legal System Research Center. Her research focuses primarily on the legal issues around agricultural law, land law, environmental law and Sino-German comparative law. Since 2021, she works at the DCZ as an Advisor for the Agribusiness Dialogue. Alejandro FIGUEROA Alejandro Figueroa, better known as Alex, is originally from Chile, but came to Europe in 1988. He has a basic training in agriculture within the German dual system and studied agricultural sciences at the University of Paderborn. Already during his studies he gained practical work experiences as a tractorist. Furthermore, he worked in Czech Republic and Slovakia for several international enterprises. Since 2012, he shifted his focus from conventional farming to sustainable agricultural practices. Since 2016, Figueroa works as an independent consultant in the fields of sustainable agriculture with a specialisation in no- till and strip tillage practices and cover crops. Since 2019 he is the team leader of the Sino German Crop Production and Agrotechnology Demonstration Park (DCALDP) project. 20
