This workshop will describe the PADDIE+M process and then take participants through a preliminary plan for designing a scenario for their simulation program. 8:30 - 10:00 Setting up for Success: the Importance of Orientation and Prebriefing According to the INACSL Standards of Best Practice in simulation, all simulation-based experiences should begin with a pre-briefing. This should include a structured orientation of the participant(s) to the simulation space, equipment, simulator (e.g. manikin), information and communication technology used, roles (such as participants, facilitator, standardised patient), time allotment, broad Description and/or specific learning objectives, patient situation, and limitations ("INACSL Mr. Brauer W/no limit Lab 5 Standards of Best Practice: SimulationSM Simulation Design," 2016). This is important not only so students understand and respect the use of expensive and sophisticated technology, but helps manage their anxiety in such technology-rich environment (Larew, Lessans, Spunt, Foster, & Covington, 2006). This presentation explores methods of orientation/ induction in simulation 9:00 - 11:00 Local Experiences P Class 604 12

This presentation will explore systems for improving the quality and outcomes of simulation operations and simulation programs. 10:00 - 11:00 Introduction to Assessment in Simulation P Lab 2 Mr. Charnetski Assessment in education sometimes gets a bad reputation. We're doing too much. Description Not enough. It's subjective. How to assess what we do? What about art of medicine? Assessment at a fundamental level doesn't have to be a mystery. Come to learn the basics of assessment and how to integrate it in to your simulation programming. 10:00 - 11:00 You Can Simulate Anything, but Should Not Dr. Crawford Keynote Large Auditorum Simulation is one of the most powerful tools available in medical education. We have numerous studies showing the benefit and efficacy of simulation as a way to improve learning, procedural skill, and patient safety. Even with all of the potential benefits of simulation, the hardest lesson in simulation is learning when not to use Description it, or identify-ing how to change your approach to improve learning and the take home message. Standards have been written and publications look better wiht positive results, but not all educational approaches in simulation have been successful. This talk will outline best-practices fro simulation and discuss when you might encounter problems in the implementation or takeaway from simulation and how to address these potential problems 11:00 - 12:00 Lunch Break 12:00 - 2:00 Scenario Programming with Laerdal SimDesigner Mr. Brauer W/15 Lab 4 LLEAP programming styles vary from person-to-person and may also depend on scenario complexity. The workshop will explore various programming methodologies Description including trends, handlers, images, labs, etc. Trends and Handlers are valuable but often overlooked tools for automating scenario progression and manikin responses. This workshop will take LLEAP users through the process of creating a semi-automated scenario using SimDesigner Software. 13
Agenda | Day 2 Time Event Speaker 12:00 - 2:00 Basic Moulage for Simulation Ms Reem W/15 Lab 1 Bruises, rashes, burns, and superficial wounds are some of the most commonly Description requested moulage effects requested for simulation scenarios.
