Along with her writing, and her new, highly anticipated, upcoming second book ‘My (Introduced by Jonathan Hood) Autistic Wings’, Joely is passionate about enabling understanding of the hidden depths and quirks of autism. While striving to challenge misconceptions and create positive change within our autistic and disabled communities, Joely shares her inspiring story- that although a disability, her autism is still a gift. www. MyAutisticWings.co.uk.’ 11.00 Hayley Morgan and Emma Durman The Autistic Birth Experience - investigating the pregnancy Hayley is an autistic mother and academic. Her passion is that of promoting equality of identity, self and access to healthcare for autistic parents. She and birth experiences of autistic women began her journey writing about being autistic and pregnant with online Irish magazine ‘The M Word’. Emma focused her dissertation on the autistic birth (Introduced by Louise Knight) experience, specifically on a practical framework of recommendations for midwives and wider healthcare staff. More than a practical set of good practice recommendations, Emma investigates a wide range of issues she believes can disproportionately and negatively affect the autistic woman’s birth in comparison to her peers. Emma explores the wider Feminist issues around consent, autonomy and trauma for all women- autistic, disabled or otherwise. Hayley’s research findings echo this which is their motivation for writing their book; The Autistic Birth Experience - A Handbook for Midwives, Doctors and Parents. 11.30 Paul Isaacs Autism as a fruit salad - breaking down autism into pieces Paul was branded as a “naughty & difficult child” at school. He was classically autistic and non-verbal due to speech articulation difficulties. He had complex sensory issues and appeared both deaf and blind. He gained functional speech around the age of 7 or 8 years old. He went through the mainstream school (Introduced byBeth Woods) system with no additional help or recognition of his autism. He developed both Borderline and Schizotypal Personality Disorders in early 2007. He was referred to mental health services and misdiagnosed with “Asperger traits with a complex personality”. Paul was diagnosed with Autism at 24 years old. In 2012 he was also diagnosed with Scotopic Sensitivity Syndrome and had face, object and meaning blindness – conditions which Paul describes eloquently in his speeches and training sessions. He also has dyslexia, dyscalculia and also a dissociative disorder. Having overcome many challenges to achieve the success that he now enjoys, Paul’s message is that Autism is a complex mix of ability and disability. He firmly believes that every Autistic person should have the opportunity to reach their potential and be regarded as a valued member of society. Paul now works as a freelance speaker, training and consultant. staypuft12@yahoo.co.uk 12.00 Break 12.15 Autism Wellbeing Sensory Trauma: Autism, sensory difference and the daily Sensory Trauma is the name Autism Wellbeing has given to a phenomenon that Autistic people have been describing in their words and actions for a long experience of fear time. Their responses to these events are proportionate to their genuine, lived experience. However, these responses may be mislabelled or misunderstood. Autism Wellbeing’s Rorie and Emma will share some of their work and the presentations they gave at The Autism Show in London, Birmingham and Manchester last June. 12.45 The Aspie World What I Wish They Knew When I was Younger Daniel M.
