2020-21 Seed Catalogue Platemeters We are now suppliers of a wide range of platemeters, providing you with an accurate and convenient way to measure and assess your field covers. F200 Electronic Platemeter • The F200 electronic platemeter has an in-house electronic digital counter unit to record both the grass height and the number of plonks. • A user adjustable formula is used to display the average grass yield in KgDM/ha. • These figures are then entered manually into the PPlus software to display the grazing wedge of the farm walk. • The F200 is powered by a rechargeable battery and comes with a mains charger. F300 Electronic Platemeter with USB Download • The F300 is a multi-paddock memory platemeter, storing data for up to 100 paddocks, with the figures stored ready for downloading via a USB cable directly to the PPlus software. This means no need to carry a notebook and pen with you on your farm walk! • The PPlus software records, displays figures and grazing wedge data to your PC. • The order the fields are walked in is set with the paddock list on the software. • The F300 is powered by a rechargeable battery and comes with a mains charger. F400 Advanced Electronic Platemeter with USB Download • The F400 has a multi-paddock memory storing data for up to 280 fields. • It displays the average grass height. KgDM/ha, paddock names, paddock numbers, paddock sizes, the last recorded measurements and the average growth since the last measurement. • The PPlus software records, displays figures and grazing wedge data to your PC. • The order the fields are walked in in pre-set, however as the paddock list is displayed on the screen the walk order can be easily changed when out in the field. • It also features auto-calibration, anti-roll to eliminate false reading and the ability to record the grazing state of your grass. Roots & Green Manuring Forage/Catch Crops When grass crops are compromised during dry summers or cold winters, forage crops provide highly palatable fodder, high in protein with very low production costs, thus reducing expensive bought in feed. Stubble Turnip Known as a 100 day, fast growing catch crop with very flexible drilling dates. This can be sown after first cut silage for summer grazing or after a cereal crop for winter grazing for cattle and sheep. Strip grazing is advisable to avoid any wastage. We recommend Frisia or Whitestar. Forage Rape Very fast growing and can be utilised by sheep and cattle. Extends and boosts midsummer forage production. Ideal for fattening lambs in the autumn/winter months. We offer two excellent varieties: Akela and Ringo. Both offer very good value for cost of production. Fodder Beet Excellent supplement to grass silage. Fodder Beet offers substantial yields averaging 20 tonne / ha of Dry Matter. High sugars make this fodder very palatable for the stock. Specialist equipment is needed for them, to lift them or strip graze. We offer a wide portfolio of fodder beets including Brigadier and Feldherr (both mangel types) all suitable for the South West Kale Is normally grown for cattle to be grazed in the autumn/winter months. A very adaptable catch crop can be cut and fed or stripped grazed to avoid wastage. Inka is a new variety, very high yielding and suited to dairy cattle. Burly has excellent disease tolerance with great protein and yields. Proteor is an intermediate stem variety, very winter hardy with good disease and aphid tolerance, ideal for sheep and cattle. Root mixtures High protein, winter hardy, extending grazing periods. These mixtures are very popular, cheap to grow, reducing the need to purchase extra bought in feed (see page 18). We offer two standard mixtures, one suitable to sow mid-summer to be utilised pre- Christmas, and the other for autumn sowing to utilise post-Christmas. Top Tip - check pH before drilling. Forage crops are very sensitive to low pH, (even a pH of 6, will reduce yields). For a free pH test please contact the office today. 20 Grass&Forage2020.2.indd 20 24/03/2020 10:55:39

Standard mixtures are available on request subject to availability at time of order. Yields range from 12-16 tonne / acre @ 30-40% Dry Matter, typical analysis will be 10-11% crude protein and starch levels of 18-24%. Sow in April and harvest in early August – early September. Pulse/Cereal Mixtures Mixtures of cereals (starch) and peas (protein) can produce high yields of well balanced quality forage. Arable silage can typically produce 12-15 tonnes of fresh material per acre and be ready to cut in 13-15 weeks from sowing. Sown in March it can be fed as fresh cut material in mid-summer, ensiled or bagged for winter feed. 27 Grass&Forage2020.2.indd 27 24/03/2020 10:55:40
