SUMMER CONSTRUCTION MIGRATION It is that time of year when the sun stays out longer, the leaves turn green, the temperatures warm up and the construction zones pop up. This is very similar to the migration of birds. Be on the alert for the following species. Species: The Greater Jersey Barrier This large and heavy species will bring traffic to a halt. As they migrate north, they typically travel in pairs, side by side. They prefer to stay about 10 feet apart and will restrict your ability to maneuver. Be cautious. This species will not move when hit. They have been known to cause severe damage to anyone who attempts to move them from their perch. Wisdom says, stay in the center and you will be safe. Species: The Lessor Orange Pylon Unlike most flocks that chose to migrate in “V” formation, this species migrates in single file. There have been records of these flocks extending for 8 – 10 miles. There is nothing more alarming than to see members of the group being ran over and tossed about. There is nothing to fear. This is a resilient species. Typically, they will stand up on their own, get back in formation and live for another day. Species: Green vest DOT This is a unique species. Very slow moving. They congregate in small bunches. Are known to be overweight, usually leaning on shovels and have been known to disappear when rain comes. They are a protected species and you must be cautious when ever you come in contact with them. Reduce your speed, stay alert and do not attempt to approach this species. Give 3 them plenty of space and they will not bother you.

JAWS has worked with SILC for the past eight years. SILC runs a “just in time” large breakbulk operation and services an engine plant in the same manner as JAWS operates. On April 29th, Roger Swezey and Kerry Frederes traveled to Indiana to tour of the facility and to tour the INDY RDC located in Whites Town, Indiana.
