ROYAL PARKS HALF MARATHON PRESENTED BY ROYAL BANK OF CANADA SUNDAY 14 OCTOBER 2018 FESTIVAL OPENS 7.30AM | RACE STARTS 9.00AM HYDE PARK #ROYALPARKSHALF
DEAR RUNNER I am delighted to welcome you to the 11th Royal Parks Half Marathon. The race was recently named as the “World’s Most Stunning Half Marathon” and it’s easy to see why. The route takes in Hyde Park, Kensington Gardens, The Green Park and St James’s Park. These beautiful green spaces, enjoyed by tens of millions of visitors each year, are some of the capital’s brightest jewels. The Royal Parks is an independent charity that looks after the eight Royal Parks and other open spaces for the public benefit. We are acutely aware of the responsibility we have to protect our environment. Sustainability has been at the core of the Royal Parks Half since its inception and we continue to work to improve on our green credentials. I am pleased to announce our commitment to remove all plastic bottles from the course by 2020. This year we will take the first steps towards fulfilling this commitment, by introducing two water stations with compostable cups and reducing the size of plastic water bottles from 330ml to 250ml. Through these steps, we will remove over 100,000 plastic bottles from the course and festival. We invite you to join our commitment to becoming the greenest race in London by reducing your plastic consumption both on and off the course. Together, we can drastically reduce the environmental impact of mass participation events. On behalf of the trustees and staff of the Royal Parks and our generous partners, I wish you all the very best of luck as you cross the start Route and Sustainability RACE DAY line on Sunday 14 October.
