Summary For the first time leadership of the controversial Islamic organization Jamaat-e-Islami has been given to youth and well educated people. Earlier the leadership of the organization was generally handed over to old radical maulanas. The new chief of the organization Syed Sadatullah Husaini is a forty-five-year old electronic and telecommunication engineering graduate. It was claimed in the press conference organized by Jamaat-e-Islami that under the able leadership of this new team expansion of Jamaat-e- Islami will take place all across the country. Jamaat-e-Islami is especially focusing on Dawat-e-Islam [inviting people to Islam basically converting people]. A trust has been constituted to give a new fillip to publish Islamic literature propagate. A programme has been made to organize Quran Mela so maximum numbers of non-Muslims are converted to Islam. For the first time in the 99-year-old history of Jamia Millia Islamia, a woman has been appointed as vice chancellor of the university. Jamia Millia Islamia was given minority institution status by National Minority Education Institution commission constituted during Arjun Singh as Union HRD minister which is still in controversy. Mahatma Gandhi had laid foundation stone of this institution and that time Mahatma Gandhi has said that it would be a nationalist organization whose doors will be open to everyone irrespective of caste, creed and faith. Why this institution was named as minority institution this is not yet clear. Tough Sharia laws have been imposed in the richest Islamic south-east Asian country Brunei. Punishment for illegitimate relations and homo-sexual relations will be death by being stoned while theft will have the punishment of chopping off hands. Western countries are opposing Sharia laws. They are saying that in this modern era such punishment is absolutely harsh but Muslim ruler of Brunei is not ready to listen to any criticism. Many Islamic countries have welcomed Sharia laws in Brunei. Relations between the US and Iran are getting deteriorated by the day this might make things in the middle-east explosive. If the US has declared one of the parts of the Iranian Army Pasdaran-e-Inquilab as terrorist organization then Iran took no time to respond by declaring Central Command of America as terror-sponsor and US security forces as terrorist groups. Strange thing is that Saudi Arabia and Israel are jointly supporting the decision of the US. Relations between the US and Turkey are getting sour. President of Turkey announced buying S 400 missile from Russia which is vehemently being opposed by the US. The US cancelled the deal of supplying military aircrafts to Turkey. National I New Leadership of Jamaat-e-Islami to Work for Propagation and Conversion to Islam Command of Jamaat-e-Islami has been taken over by a young team. Informed sources said that Jamaat- e-Islami has decided to start a new campaign for conversion in the country. It is planned to organize Quran Mela across the country so maximum number of people are encouraged to get converted to Islam. Jamaat-e-Islami has set up a separate publication cell under which publication material and Islamic literature in Hindi and many other regional languages will be published. So not only Islam is propagated but conversion will be increased at a fast rate. Strange thing is that Jamaat-e-Islami has been claiming that it has got nothing to do with politics still it has appealed to Muslims to vote for secular political so communal Hindu political party is unable to return to power. According to Akhbar-E-Mashriq (April 8), Syed Sadatullah Husaini has been made the new chief of Jamaat-e-Islami. He has replaced Maulana Jalaluddin Umri and Husaini's tenure will be for four years. Husaini was president of Student Islamic Organisation for twice besides that he was vice president of Husaini. He was also director of study and research wing of this organization. Around 157 members of Majlis-e-Numaindgan of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind participated in the election. T Arif secured the second position. Arif contested the last elections also four years ago but was defeated. Outgoing president Umri remained its chief for 12 long years. The new president Syed Husaini belongs to Hyderabad however he was born in 1973 in Maharashtra. He is a communication and computer engineer by profession and has written 12 books so far. This is to recall that election methodology of Husaini is different from other organizations. The organization discusses an individual and attempt is made to reach consensus on that particular name. Earlier Dr Abdul Haq Ansari, Maulana Mohammad Sirazul Hasan, Maulana Mohammad Yusuf and Maulana Abul Lais Islahi Nadwi were president of Jamaat-e- Islami besides Maulana Umri. According to Dawat the mouthpiece of Jamaat-e-Islami (April 10), the new president has taken over and he will remain on the post till March 31, 2023. The outgoing president Maulana Jalaluddin Umri is 84-year-old. The newspaper reported, conference of the delegates of Jamaat-e-Islami is over which is organized twice in four years. One of the conferences elects chief of Jamaat-e-Islami and other executive member while the other takes stock of the working of the chief of Jamaat-e-Islami. According to the newspaper, electoral panel had 157 members and out of that 147 participated in it. The number of electoral panel changes as per the working of Jamaat-e-Islami. Dawat on April 13 welcomed handing over the leadership of Jamaat-e-Islami to youths and said that globally youths are encouraged in the political parties from the past a few decades. This has produced a better result. This method has also been adopted by the Islamic organisations but Muslim organizations in India have been shying away from it so far. Jamaat-e-Islami has handed over its leadership to youths in the 78th formation year of the organization. This team is not only young but well educated as well. Similarly the other three deputy chief of the organization elected they included Mohammad Zafar, Mohammad Salim Engineer and S Aminul Hasan while T Arif Ali has been India Policy Foundation 3 April 1-15, 2019 u u
appointed as general secretary who all are also very young and energetic. Chief of Jamaat-e-Islami belongs to Hyderabad while his deputy Mohammad Zafar belongs to Bihar, Mohammad Salim Engineer belongs to Rajasthan, S Aminul Hasan is from Karnataka while T Arif Ali is from Kerala. So Jamaat-e-Islami now represents different parts of the country. This is the first occasion when the entire team of Jamaat-e-Islami changed. Old and senior leaders of the party keep on guiding the new team. There had been five chief of Jamaat-e-Islami so far and Husaini is the sixth chief of the organization. The outgoing chief of Jamaat-e-Islami was 84 year old and was at the helm for 12 years. The newspaper expressed hope that this new team will start a new chapter in the history of Jamaat-e-Islami. The new general secretary of Jamaat-e-Islami T Arif Ali was deputy chief of the organization from the past four year. He got his education from King Saud University of Saudi Arabia and he is a teacher by profession. The meeting held in Delhi also elected 24 executive members as well. According to Inquilab (April 9), the newly elected chief of Jamaat-e-Islami told the media that countrymen must be cautious about the hatred being spread in the country. He said, “Islam is the religion of peace and we will contact people from every other faith to remove their misconception about Islam.” Former chief of Jamaat-e-Islami Maulana Umri, present chief Husaini, Mohammad Salim Engineer and many other office bearers were present. Answering a question the Jamaat chief said that his organization never supported the Congress. We appealed to make every such candidate successful that could defeat communal forces. Mentioning SIO, he said that he takes his own decisions and it has got nothing to do with Jamaat-e-Islami. The new chief said, “We must vote on the solid basis and must not get emotional. Some political parties are trying to divide the society and we must face them with alacrity.” National convention of Jamaat-e-Islami passed several resolutions in relations to parliamentary elections, Indian Muslims, situation in Kashmir, attack in mosque in New Zealand and Palestine. A resolution targeted the BJP-led government at the Centre and said that results of the Lok Sabha elections will have far reaching impact. The approach of the present ruling party is very negative which is stalling development projects, law and order is destroyed and autonomy of democratic institution is in danger. But the biggest issue of concern is that opposition parties are unable to understand the situation and instead of getting united, they are fighting with each other. This is the responsibility of thinkers, journalists and civil society workers to brave the false campaign unleashed by the ruling party. Mentioning the situation of Kashmir, he expressed concern over the growing incidence of violence and unrest in the state and demanded serious measures from the government and administration to deal with the situation. Jamaat-e-Islami said that it is concerned about atrocities of Israel on Philippines and aggressive action of Israel against Arabic nations. It condemned activities of the US in these regions. The recent decisions of the US handing over of Golan Hills to Israel and Israel declaring Jerusalem as the capital is absolutely clear example of injustice. Jamaat-e-Islami demanded from the government of India that it must adopt the old policy on the issue by openly supporting independence of Palestine and must wield its diplomatic influence against human right violation there. Jamaat-e-Islami in its proposal promised its full support to them. Comment: As far as Jamaat-e-Islami is concerned, it is a radical Islamic organization which has the objective of setting up Nizam-e-Mustafa in India. Jamaat-e-Islami was started by a radical Muslim ulma Syed Abul Ala Maududi which split at the time of partition of the country. Jamaat e Islami Pakistan's headquarters was set up in Lahore while Jamaat-e-Islami was started from Allahabad but its earlier headquarters was in Rampur and now it is in Delhi. Later on Jamaat-e-Islami got divided into four parts. They included Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan, Jamaat-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir, Jamaat-e- India Policy Foundation 4 April 1-15, 2019 u u
Islami Hind and Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh. Pakistan has appointed Munir commission to investigate into the matter of nationwide riots against Ahmadias. On recommendations of the Munir Commission, 17 people were hanged that included chief of Jamaat-e-Islami Maududi. Bangladesh has already declared Jamaat-e-Islami as a banned organization and had hanged over two dozens of important Jamaat-e-Islami leaders. As far as Jamaat-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir is concerned, the central government has recently banned it and several people associated with it has been arrested. Jamaat-e-Islami has been banned in India twice. Leadership of Jamaat has always been with old people. This is the first occasion when leadership of Jamaat has been handed over to the young leadership and IT educated people. II Forty Muslim Candidates Succeeded in UPSC Examination According to Inquilab (April 6), Union Public Service Commission has declared results of 2018 competitive examinations. As per Inquilab, 40 Muslim candidates got selected this year and one Muslim candidate Junaid Ahmad got the third rank. Ayman Jamal of Gorakhpur has been selected for post of IPS. This is to recall that last year there were 980 candidates selected but this year it has come down to 759. There were 50 Muslim candidates last year but this year they are reduced to just 40. But proportion of selection of Muslim candidates this year is satisfactory in comparison to 2017-18. Junaid Ahmad securing the third position belongs to Nagina town of Bijnore district of Uttar Pradesh. There are several Islamic organizations which prepare Muslim candidates for these examinations. Out of these organizations, 18 candidates of Zakat Foundation succeeded that all included Gauhar Hasan (Bihar), Mohammad Sarafraz Alam (Bihar), Mohammad Tausifullah (Bihar), Safqat Amna (Bihar), Shahid Raza (Bihar), Zayed Ahmed Ansari (Gujarat), Faisal Khan (Haryana), Babur Ali (Jammu and Kashmir), Javed Husain (Jharkhand), Rena Jameel (Jharkhand), Jithin Rahman (Kerala), Mohammad Abdul (Kerala), Ranjeena Merry (Kerala), Syed Riyaz Ahmed (Maharashtra), Mohammad Mustafa Eizaz (Telangana), Junaid Ahmed (Uttar Pradesh) and Shahid Ahmed (Uttar Pradesh). Inquilab in its editorial on April 8 expressed satisfaction over the selection of Muslim candidates but expressed concern over the ratio of Muslim candidates getting selected this year which is just 3.69 per cent. Longing of Muslim candidates for these examinations has increased. It is said in the editorial that people succeeding in these examinations does not have very sound economic condition. If they are succeeding in these examinations then there is no need to worry about for Muslims. They must try to make their future bright. Comment: This is to recall that in the Union Public Service Commission 2017, there were 52 successful candidates. According to Hamara Samaj (May 1, 2018), Union minority affairs Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi claimed that success rate of Muslim candidates increased ever since the Modi government has taken over. He said that this year maximum number of Muslim candidates succeeded. Naqvi had said that 990 candidates had succeeded in which 131 are Muslims out of that 52 were selected for IAS, IPS and IFS. He said that schemes like 'Udaan' and 'Naya Savera' started by minority ministry have made arrangement of free preparation of Muslim candidates for these examinations helping them to succeed more and more in numbers. India Policy Foundation 5 April 1-15, 2019 u u
According to Inquilab (April 29, 2018), there were 50 successful Muslims in these examinations. As per press note released by Jamia Millia Islamia free coaching has been made available to these candidates and 43 candidates have made it to the list. It had candidates from other communities as well. Similarly Zakat Foundation of India claimed that 26 candidates belonging to them have succeeded and successful candidates included 15 women. The biggest numbers of Muslim candidates have got selected from western Uttar Pradesh that was nine, six from Kerala while three from Jammu and Kashmir. Hindustan Express (May 2, 2018) in its editorial expressed its satisfaction and said that this year more Muslim women succeeded in comparison to last year. It is said in the editorial that several Islamic organizations provide free coaching to students appearing in civil services examinations. The newspaper said that 36 candidates were selected in 2016; there were 38 in 2015 while there were just 34 in 2014. The number of Muslim candidates selected in 2013, 2012 and 2011 was 30 each and 2010 it was 31 while in 2009 it was just 21. III Attempt Made to Polarise Muslim Votes Dawat in its editorial on April 10 accused that the moment elections are coming closure, Muslims are pushed to brinks. Islamic organizations might be appealing Muslims to help secular forces to succeed but secular force are not giving any importance to Muslim voters that they deserve. Neither any party has fielded Muslim candidate as per the proportion of its population nor is any big Muslim leader running any campaign in the Muslim areas. This could have two reasons; one is that secular political parties must have understood that when they are getting their votes without asking what is the need to ask for it of what is the need to discuss their problem; second they might be thinking that where will they go if they won't vote for them. Muslims are still living in this impression that secular parties give preference to them and their votes. However, it is being observed right from the time of Gujarat elections that election campaign is starting from Temple and Matt and ending there only which means every political party is doing politics of majority community. There are minorities in the country. How are they? What are the problems and issues that they are facing; no one is bothered as if only majority community votes and only their votes from the government in state and Centre. If the BJP is talking about tough Hindutva and nationalism then Congress is talking about soft Hindutva. The biggest irony is that no one is bothered about 20 crore Muslims in the country. No one is trying to understand their problem. Nothing is being promised to them. Muslims are just mute spectators. Communal forces are ensuring that Muslim representation should be ended. So Muslims are deliberately being pushed to the wall. There is a need to understand this strategy. As long as Muslims were vote banks everyone was asking about them. Media used to remain abuzz that which way Muslim votes are going. But the moment people stopped calling them vote banks, no one is asking about Muslims. After the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, the way situations turned against Muslims no one can even imagine. Earlier there used to be anti-Muslim politics but now even leaders have been stopped talking about Muslims. Political parties claiming to be secular count Muslims for their vote bank but they keep Muslims away so that they are not accused of Muslim appeasement. Muslims are not given ticket in Muslim dominated areas. India Policy Foundation 6 April 1-15, 2019 u u
Earlier it was being said that the party will win whosoever Muslims vote for. So it is important to keep them happy. But now there is no such situation. In the era of alliance, caste-based political parties understand that if votes of their caste are worked out Muslims would fall in line then what is the need to worry about them. Muslims too don't understand the value of their votes. They are wasting their votes instead of making any candidate successful. There are over 100 such constituencies where Muslims are over 20 per cent but if you analyze election results, you would find such candidate winning whom Muslims don't want to win. Several Muslim candidates are in the fray there so neither they themselves are able to win nor they are able to help wining such candidates who they wish to. Such situation is in the case of caste. They first put pressure on parties that candidate should be one among them and if they get ticket they start working for his victory with full throttle else they start working for defeat of the other candidate. Earlier Muslims were asked for vote by asking them that if they won't vote secularism and democracy will be under threat. Muslims got weakened carrying the weight of secularism so much that now interference is being made into their religion. Muslim Personal Law is attacked and minority institutions are being snatched away and they are not in a position to save them. They are unable to defend themselves and no one is helping them out as well. Else the issue of triple talaq and polygamy would not have arisen and neither back door (Ordinance) could have been used to thrust non-Sharia laws on Muslims. Minority structure of Aligarh Muslim University and Jamia Millia Islamia is once again being taken up in the court. A silent campaign is unleashed to push Muslims to the corner even in politics and elections after making them backward in the rest of the areas. This is a very dangerous campaign because if there is no importance of Muslims in politics, they will be of nowhere. According to Sahafat (April 11), author Mohammad Asif Iqbal said that at the moment there are 2354 registered political parties. Population of India is 137 crore and India goes on to elect 543 MPs. The author accepted that the Muslim population in 1951 was 8.9 per cent which has gone up to 15 per cent in 2018 but Muslims are not getting proper representation in the Lok Sabha in view of their increasing population. 11 Muslims got elected in 1952 that was 2 per cent of total MPs. 19 MPs got elected in 1957, 20 in 1962, 25 in 1967, 28 in 1971, 34 in 1977, 49 in 1980, 42 in 1984, 27 in 1989, 25 in 1991, 29 in 1996, 28 in 1998, 31 in 1999, 34 in 2004, 30 in 2009 and 24 in 2014. Considering the growing population of the country, minimum number of MP got elected in 2014 and that had two reasons first defeat of secular parties while secular parties deliberately tried to decrease the number of Muslim candidates. The author claimed that 46 Lok Sabha constituencies in India are such where Muslim population is over 30 per cent but Muslim candidates are not elected from these seats because different political parties field Muslim candidates from there so Muslim votes are divided and non-Muslims are elected. The author accused that since Muslim representation in the Lok Sabha is less therefore the government is deliberately interfering into the religious matters of Muslims. IV First Woman Vice Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia According to Roznama Rashtriya Sahara (April 12), President Ramnath Kovind appointed professor at National Institute of Education Planning and Administration (NIEPA) Najma Akhtar as vice chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia. She will be the first woman vice chancellor of any central university. India Policy Foundation 7 April 1-15, 2019 u u
According to Union human resource development ministry, visitor Ramnath Kovind appointed her vice chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia for five years. Besides this three other universities got new vice chancellors that included Prof Sanjeev Sharma at Mahatma Gandhi Central University, Motihari while for Mahatma Gandhi Hindi University, Wardha Dr Rajneesh Kumar Shukla. Permission was sought from election commission before these appointments as any appointments cannot be made after morale code of conduct is in place. As far as Prof Najma Akhtar is concerned, she is teaching from the past 40 years. Najma Akhtar is credited with setting up educational institution SIMT of the state government in Allahabad. She was also the director of examination controller and academic matters at Aligarh Muslim University. She had also worked with IGNOU. Prof Najma Akhtar is a gold medalist from Aligarh Muslim University and she had done her PhD from Kurukshetra University in education. She had also got educated from foreign university and there are several books to her credit. She is a prominent face in the international arena of educationists. This is to recall that former vice chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia has been appointed as vice chancellor of Jammu and Kashmir University. So his appointment vacated the post of Jamia Millia Islamia. Comment: For the first time in the 99-year-old history of Jamia Millia Islamia any woman has been appointed as vice chancellor. This is a very old controversy if Jamia Millia Islamia a minority institution. Publication department of Jamia Millia Islamia published a book called Jamia Ki Kahani which is authored by an old teacher working in the department Abdul Gaffar Mudholi. It is said that on page 20 of this book that “During the non-cooperation movement of Mahatma Gandhi Maulana Mohammad Hussain Madani, Hakim Ajmal Khan and Maulana Shaukat Ali visited Aligarh Muslim University to request students that they must boycott educational institution to participate in the movement then management of Aligarh Musli University refused to allow Congress leaders to enter into the campus.” Words on page 23 go like this: “These leaders had decided on this that a nationalist institution must be set up whose doors will remain open for every Indian without any religious discrimination.” Announcing setting up Jamia Millia Islamia Maulana Mohammad Hussain Madani said: “This would be a national institution whose door will be open to everyone irrespective of their caste and creed. A decision was taken in the first syndicate of the university that education arrangement for both Hindu and Muslim will be made there.” According to the same book, Mahatma Gandhi wanted to make Mohammad Iqbal the first vice chancellor of the university but he refused to accept the responsibility of this nationalist institution for being a Muslim League member. Therefore the first chancellor of the university was made Hakim Ajmal Khan. But after the death of Hakim Ajmal Khan the responsibility of this institution had gone to Dr Zakir Husain. The institution was brought from Aligarh to Delhi in 1935 and started functioning from Karol Bagh in the beginning. Laying down its foundation stone in 1935, Mahatma Gandhi said that this is nation education institution and its door will be open for everyone. University grant commission has given it the status of deemed university in 1962 and in 1988 the bill was passed in Parliament to make it a central university. This is to recall that Aziz Basha verses government of India 1968 case, the Supreme Court ruled that if any organization that is made by the law passed in Parliament and it takes fund from the government, it cannot considered to be a minority institution. India Policy Foundation 8 April 1-15, 2019 u u
But strange thing is that still National Minority Education Institution Commission has given it status of minority institution. After the minority status given to this institution, it got the right to reserve half of the seats to minority community. Quota for Dalits and OBC was removed. It is said that National Minority Education Institution Commission does not have the right to take any such decisions on the other hand chairman of this commission Justice Siddiqui claimed in his decision that his decision was within the purview of law and constitution and his decision was taken on the basis of petition filed by Jamia Student Union and Jamia Old Boys Association in 2006. Now, the question arises that if Jamia Millia has the right to get the status of minority institution which was passed by Parliament. This institution was established in 1939 by a body and the government recognized its degree in 1951 and the government recognized it as a central university. V BJP to get Benefit of Congress and AAP Alliance not getting Materialized According to Weekly Nai Duniya (April 1), alliance between the Congress and Aam Aadmi Party failed to be cemented in Delhi and the Congress announced to field its candidates. Division in the opposition votes will definitely help the BJP. According to the newspaper, this had not happened due to Sheila Dikshit's firmness. AAP wanted to forge alliance with Haryana and Punjab but local leaders did not agree for it. However, the Congress in-charge of Delhi P C Chako was in favour of the alliance with AAP. The Congress and AAP alliance in the formation of the government last time did not lost long. The newspaper wrote that AAP might get one or two seat but the Congress would not even be able to open its account. President of Nationalist Congress Party Sharad Pawar also tried for alliance with the Congress and the AAP to work out by involving Rahul Gandhi and Sanjay Singh and AAP got ready to give two seats to the Congress but Sheila Dikshit did not like this proposal and proposal got into jeopardy. Now, the Congress has announced names of all seven candidates from Delhi. AAP has also announced names of its candidates in Delhi. Muslim votes will be divided due to alliance not working and this will benefit the BJP. There are 11 per cent Muslim votes in Delhi but they are 20 per cent in the Lok Sabha. According to a survey done by Weekly Nai Duniya in which it was asked if AAP or the Congress should be supported in Lok Sabha elections? Most of the participants of this survey were Muslims out of that 67 per cent supported voting AAP while 33 per cent were in favour of voting the Congress. A big number of the Congress supporters were in favour of this alliance. Now, all the three parties have announced names of their candidates, therefore, possibility of alliance is ruled out for now. Residence of Old Delhi Mohammad Marshlin said that the Congress was divided among different ideologies for alliance so it failed to reach a decision. The Congress will be at receiving end for not taking decision at the right time. Similarly the Congress failed to forge alliance in Assam, West Bengal and Bihar. Ashraf is saying that Muslims must vote to Aam Aadmi Party. The BJP is an open enemy and the Congress is a hidden enemy. Some Muslims are also singing the similar song as played by the Congress. Mukhtar Ahmed is of the view that the Congress is victim of misconception and it is wearing India Policy Foundation 9 April 1-15, 2019 u u
the same arrogance that the BJP once had. But the BJP has molded itself as per the changing situation but the Congress did not join Mahagathbandhan due to its stubborn attitude. This will harm the Congress. Salahuddin Mohammad Farhaad said that Kejriwaal government has done lots of work therefore Muslims must vote to them. He said that talks of alliance with the Congress were election stunts of the AAP. Is the Congress bonded laborer of the AAP that whenever it suits it says Congress thief and whenever it feel like it talks about alliance. Nanjum Alhadi of Shahin Bagh of Okhla said that Muslims have tested the Congress many a times. As far as Muslim policy of the Congress is concerned, there is no difference with the BJP. Mohsin Ali said that opposition failing to forge alliance in Delhi will benefit the BJP for sure. Maulana Maqbool Ahmed of Jeetpur said that Muslims must vote Aam Aadmi Party in Delhi, Rashtriya Janata Dal in Bihar and Mamata Banerjee in West Bengal. Noorullah said that no secular party is ready to give importance to Muslim votes. They want to get votes of Muslims by causing fear of the BJP but none of them is ready to work for the welfare of Muslims. The Congress is two steps ahead of the BJP in Hindu appeasement therefore Muslims must vote very carefully. He accepted that Muslims vote will not go to the BJP in Delhi but they will be divided between the oppositions. This will definitely help the BJP. India Policy Foundation 10 April 1-15, 2019 u u
World I Brunei in Trap of Sharia Law According to Etemaad (April 4), Sharia laws have been established in Brunei, a Muslim majority nation of south East Asia. According to these laws, rape, homosexuality and extramarital affairs are punishable offences having punishment of stoning to death. According to these laws, hands of a thief will be cut if found guilty. Sharia laws were declared in Brunei in year 2014 and now it is getting enforced. Sultan of Brunei Hassanal Bolkiah is among the richest individuals in the world. The age of sultan is 72 years. He has stated that all people may not agree to the enforcement of Islamic laws, but their country is an Islamic nation so Sharia law is being enforced here. He expects all his subjects will agree with him. According to the announcements, Sharia laws will be enforced from April 1 and they ought to be abide by all citizens of the country whatever race or religion they belong to. According to the declaration, enforcement of Sharia laws was declared in May 2014 only. Initially it was started with fine and jail for ones who don't fast during the month of Ramzan and the ones who don't offer namaz during Ramadan. Now, as per the new laws homosexuality and extra marital relationship accused people will be stoned to death. According to this law, men and women both will be guilty and both will be given death penalty. American ministry of foreign affairs have denounced these cruel inhumane punishments and told this to be against human rights charter. Brunei has also signed on this charter. This small country is among highest producers of petrol in the world. In its editorial, Dawat wrote on April 10, they have welcomed Sharia law in Brunei. According to Dawat, these laws will be applicable only to Muslims. Total population of the country is 4 lakh 20 thousand among of which two thirds is Muslim. The newspaper writes that after the wipeout of Osmania Dynasty world powers divided Muslim world among themselves. Around 11 crores soldiers were killed in World War 1. This number was almost 3 per cent of the total population of world in 1940. Newspaper says world powers don't care when millions are killed in wars but they get worried when Sharia law is imposed. Do Muslims have no right to live life according to will of their Allah? This is the reason that western countries started opposing Brunei once they enforced Sharia law in their country and declared it as inhumane and violent. Even United Nations has reacted strictly on this. Amnesty International has declared that this law is violation of human rights. The medieval way of punishments is irrelevant in today's times. The law minister and minister of religious matters of Brunei declared in joint press conference that today is a very good day for us because we will be able to punish the criminals as per Islam and Quran.
