Perryton ISD Return to School Plan 2021-2022 Page | 2 Message from Our Superintendent August 6, 2021 The Perryton ISD family is looking forward to the coming school year. We have been working very hard since January of last year to prepare for a successful next year. Our new vision statement is “Engage, Educate, Empower… Everyone, Every day.” The mission of the district is “United in excellence to help all students reach their full potential with a positive learning environment.” We feel that if we follow these simple guidelines than we will have a very productive year. Perryton ISD places safety for staff and students as a high priority. This document “Return to School” provides information for our staff and parents about the plans to begin the new school year. We hope this information is helpful. We will continue to share information through the Perryton ISD Facebook and website www.perrytonisd.org. Perryton ISD Return to School Plan 2021-2022 Page | 3 Fall 2021: Instructional Information for Families Perryton ISD is committed to ensuring students have an equitable experience, access to high quality instruction and are engaged in the learning, therefore Perryton ISD will only provide in-person, on-campus instruction for all students. The following expectations will guide our instructional decisions as we begin the 2021-2022 school year. ● Learning experiences are designed to meet the needs of the learner. ● Students will engage in high quality learning experiences aligned to TEKS Resource System and Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for non-core courses. ● Students will receive both formative and summative assessments to ensure they are making adequate progress in their grade-level curriculum. ● Classroom teachers will utilize Google Classroom and/or Remind to communicate with parents and/or students. ● Students who are identified as needing more time and support due to loss of instructional time related to COVID-19 or other factors will receive academic intervention in the classroom or in one-on-one/small group settings. Instructional Roles & Learning Tools Perryton ISD is committed to ensuring all students learn and are engaged, as well as, providing consistency in high quality instruction and learning tools for all students. We encourage students and parents to embrace and teachers to implement the instructional roles defined below. INSTRUCTIONAL ROLES Learning, Teaching and Support/Intervention Expectations Student ● Be prepared for learning each day, have work and assignments completed and ready. ● Complete coursework by the deadline set by teachers. ● Participate in on-campus learning activities as instructed by teachers. ● Be organized in your work and in getting projects completed. ● Ask questions and communicate with your teacher. ● Be aware of what you should be learning each day. ● Become familiar with how your teacher organizes information. Parent ● Access Parent Portal to view student grades and progress. ● Encourage your child to have their supplies in their backpack and ready for school the night before. ● Check-in with your child to monitor the completion of homework and assignments. ● Maintain communication with your child’s teacher by phone, email and/or online meetings to create a learning partnership. ● Monitor and ask your child if they are on track with assignments and

Check Parent Portal to verify. ● Be an active participant in your child’s learning. ● Allow your child to attend intervention/tutorial sessions as needed. ● Help your child own their learning. Provide support and encouragement and expect your child to do their part. Teacher ● Meet weekly with grade-level or content-area PLC to plan instruction for all students. ● For Core Courses: Utilize the TEKS curriculum documents and follow the Year- At-A-Glance (YAG) for pacing and sequencing units of instruction. ● For Non-Core Courses: Utilize the TEKS and other resources to ensure appropriate instruction. ● Manage online and offline resources to provide consistency and routines for students. ● Provide clear learning objectives and goals for students. ● Follow the expectations established across the district. ● Check student assignments in a timely manner and give feedback in verbal or written form at a weekly minimum to provide next steps or necessary academic intervention/extension. ● Post grades in a timely manner according to district grading procedures. ● Provide intervention or tutorial sessions as needed. ● Follow student IEPs/504 modifications and accommodations in all learning environments. ● Use data to pinpoint students’ specific needs for enrichment and intervention. ● Monitor student progress with fidelity according to recommendations. ● Provide and communicate office hours or conference period for student/parent support. ● Attend and participate in professional learning. School Protocols Following are the protocols for Perryton ISD campuses and administration buildings. Since this is an ever-changing situation, the district may need to change protocols at any time to address specific needs and circumstances in order to protect the health and safety of students, employees and the community. Please note, health guidance cannot anticipate every unique situation. As a result, Perryton ISD will continue to consult available guidance through governmental agencies and other information deemed relevant to monitor the situation. The district will comply with applicable federal and state employment and disability laws, workplace safety standards and accessibility standards to address individual needs.
Perryton ISD Return to School Plan 2021-2022 Page | 5 The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) provides guidance, recommendations and resources to assist with plans and protocols for health and safety. Perryton ISD will implement health and safety plans that include: ● Ensuring adequate supply inventory (e.g. cleaning supplies, misting, hand sanitizer, etc.) ● Cleaning with products approved by governing authorities and per guidelines from the Environmental Protection Agency ● Using CDC, Health and Human Services and Texas Education Agency guidance and policies when developing our own policies. ● Providing communication of procedures and expectations upon entering facilities and throughout buildings. Protocols for Screening and Isolation General All students and staff will self-screen for COVID-19 symptoms daily. Individuals with symptoms are required to stay home. Screening Protocols ● A parent or guardian should screen their children for signs of illness each day prior to sending them to school. Additional screening, if needed, may be conducted during the school day. ● Parents must ensure they do not send a child to school on campus if the child has COVID-19 symptoms (as listed in this document) or is lab- confirmed with COVID-19. ● Staff and students should not enter campuses or district buildings if any of the following apply. An exclusion from school may occur for any of these specifics. The individual is: o Sick with any of these symptoms: fever (100.4°F or higher), cough, shortness of breath/difficulty breathing, new onset of severe headache, new loss of taste or smell, vomiting or diarrhea. o Has a confirmed case of COVID-19 or has been quarantined by the local health department due to exposure to a confirmed case of COVID-19. o These individuals must follow all isolation and quarantine guidelines from the local health authority or their physician. o Awaiting their own test results. o Teachers will monitor students and refer them to the nurse if symptoms of illness are present. Isolation Protocols ● For students displaying symptoms of COVID-19 or are feeling
Perryton ISD Return to School Plan 2021-2022 Page | 6 feverish, the school nurse will provide a clinical assessment to determine if and when a student needs to be sent home. ● Students who are ill will be separated from their peers and should be picked up within 30 minutes to 1 hour from the time the campus has contacted the parent/guardian. ● If an individual who has been in a school is lab-confirmed to have COVID-19, the school must notify its local health department, in accordance with applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations, including confidentiality requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). ● Schools will disinfect the areas that are heavily used by an individual with a lab-confirmed case (student, teacher, or staff) of COVID-19. ● Staff members displaying COVID-19 symptoms will follow district protocols including isolation from students and other staff members. ● Students and staff who have tested positive for COVID-19 will be permitted to return to school when (all 3 criteria must be met): o 10 Days have passed since symptoms began And o Improved symptoms (cough, difficulty breathing, etc.) And; o At least one day (24 hours) has passed since recovery (resolution of fever without using fever-reducing medication) Protocols for Personal Protective Equipment Students and staff may wear face coverings, if they choose, during school hours. Protocols for Campus Visitors Campus staff may consider utilizing virtual meeting options to limit campus visitors. Visitor Screening ● If visitors have symptoms of illness, or are lab confirmed with COVID- 19, they must remain off campus until they meet the criteria for re- entry. ● Any Individuals permitted to proceed beyond the reception area must follow all safety and campus protocols.
Perryton ISD Return to School Plan 2021-2022 Page | 7 Protocols for Disinfecting and Hand Sanitizing Frequent disinfection and hand sanitization will ensure health and wellness of students and staff. Hand Washing/Sanitizing Expectations ● Hand sanitizer will be available at the main entry to the campus, in classrooms, in the cafeteria and in common areas throughout the campus. ● Staff and students will be expected to regularly wash or sanitize their hands. ● Requirement for hand washing and/or use of Perryton ISD-provided hand sanitizer: Elementary & Secondary ● Provide hand sanitizer upon entry to classroom and periodic teacher reminders during instructional day. ● Hand washing after recess, before eating, and after restroom breaks. Disinfecting Expectations ● Staff will have access to disinfectant solutions to sanitize high-touch and working surfaces and shared objects frequently. Protocols for Campus Cleaning and Disinfecting Frequent cleaning and disinfection will support a healthy learning and work environment for students and staff. Daily Campus Cleaning ● Each classroom and restroom will be cleaned. ● All high-touch areas will be cleaned throughout the day. ● Cafeterias will be disinfected between lunch periods. ● Staff and students will have access to disinfecting items to sanitize working surfaces, shared objects, and high-touch areas after use and during breaks in instruction. Restrooms ● The scheduling of whole class restroom breaks is recommended to eliminate co-mingling of students across various classes and to ensure teacher monitoring of social distancing guidelines. ● Increased disinfecting will occur throughout the school day. Staff and students must wash hands with soap and water prior to exiting the bathroom. Proper handwashing techniques will be taught to all students and consistently reinforced
Perryton ISD Return to School Plan 2021-2022 Page | 8 Protocols for Common Areas and Meetings Common areas include spaces that are used for meetings and collaboration. This includes computer labs, flexible spaces, conference rooms and other meeting rooms. ● All students and staff may use hand sanitizer when entering and exiting common areas. ● Campuses will develop schedules and follow protocols for the use of common areas, including how to sanitize the space between use. If needed, students will bring personal supplies from the classroom. ● There will be procedures allowing students to sanitize their spaces before and after usage. ● Number of students in a common area will be based upon social distancing practices. ● Visual reminders will be displayed for social distancing throughout common areas. Informational graphics will be posted to help with social distancing. ● The use of virtual meetings/videoconferencing may be used when possible, including PTA meetings, ARDs, LPAC, booster club meetings and events. ● Protocols for Positive COVID-19 Cases on Campus ● Custodial staff will defog and disinfect classrooms, restrooms, athletics, fine arts areas and all additional areas throughout the school facility. ● For protocols regarding students and isolation due to COVID-19, see the Isolation Protocols.
Perryton ISD Return to School Plan 2021-2022 Page | 9 Campus Health & Safety Protocols Training On the first day a student attends school on campus, schools will provide instruction to students on appropriate hygiene practices and other mitigation practices adopted in the local school system. To include the practice of covering coughs and sneezes with a tissue or into their elbows. Used tissues should be thrown in the trash, hands should be washed immediately with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, or hand sanitizer should be used. Safety Protocols & Procedures Student ● Students will participate in training specific to adopted health and safety protocols. ● All students will be trained on information about COVID-19 screening, identification of symptoms, prevention of spread, and sanitation of work areas. ● If a student is experiencing symptoms they need to immediately notify a teacher. Parent ● Parents are asked to talk to their students about COVID-19 symptoms and prevention strategies. Teacher/Staff ● Teachers will develop classroom procedures consistent with TEA, and District guidance. ● All staff will be given information on identification of symptoms, prevention of spread, and sanitation of work areas. ● All staff will monitor students that exhibit symptoms and will be required to notify the nurse if a student is showing any symptoms. School Arrival & Dismissal Arrival: Each campus principal will communicate procedures for arrival. Dismissal: Each campus principal will communicate procedures for dismissal. Bus Transportation Protocol The Perryton ISD Transportation Department offers the following guidance to parents and caregivers regarding school bus transportation for daily bus routes as well as field trips. Bus routes will run at regular capacity. General Education/Special Needs/Shuttle Loading and Unloading Procedures
Perryton ISD Return to School Plan 2021-2022 Page | 10 Bus Stop Expectations ● Students should practice social distancing, whenever possible (if there is adequate space and it is safe to do so) while waiting for and approaching the school bus. ● Students should NOT share food, drinks or personal devices. Morning and Afternoon Boarding Bus Procedures ● Students should practice social distancing as they approach and board the bus. ● Use hand sanitizer (provided on the bus). ● Students should NOT share food, drinks or personal devices. Unloading at Campus ● Students should practice social distancing and follow campus guidelines. Disinfecting Protocol Between each Morning and Afternoon Bus runs ● Transportation staff will be spraying and wiping down seats and high- touch items with disinfecting spray. ● When possible, bus windows will be open to allow outside air to circulate in the bus. Building Arrival Student ● Wash hands or use hand sanitizer upon arrival. ● Campuses may plan for entry, exit, and transition procedures that reduce large group gatherings (of students and/or adults) in close proximity. ● Students will be assigned to report to a specific area and will be expected to adhere to schedules for morning arrival. Parent ● Parents are encouraged to talk with their child about the health benefits of social distancing at school, as well as the health benefits of washing their hands, and/or using hand sanitizer. Teacher/Staff ● Staff members will be assigned to supervise students who report to large areas for morning arrival.
Perryton ISD Return to School Plan 2021-2022 Page | 11 Cafeteria - Breakfast and Lunch Staff will monitor the cafeteria and hallways to promote social distancing practices. Posted signage and staff will reinforce social distancing and traffic patterns in the cafeteria. Hand sanitizing stations will be available at entrances and exits of the cafeteria. Standard Classroom Procedures Classroom protocols and procedures will include: ● Visual reminders of distancing requirements will be in all classrooms marking off areas for common spaces and distancing best practices. ● Refillable hand sanitizer stations. ● Access to disinfectant to sanitize working surfaces. ● In classrooms where students are regularly within six feet of one another, schools should plan for more frequent hand washing and/or hand sanitizing. ● The use of outdoor space for learning will be encouraged when possible. Water Fountains Water Fountain Usage Student ● Students should consider bringing their own reusable water bottle for use throughout the day. They should take water bottles home to be cleaned on a daily basis. This will reduce the amount of people using a water fountain. Parent ● Parents should consider securing a reusable water bottle for their child to bring to school on a daily basis. ● Parents are asked to assist students, as needed, to clean water bottles on a daily basis. Teacher/Staff ● Develop and demonstrate how students should fill water bottles instead of drinking directly from the water fountains. ● Monitor that students take water bottles home to be cleaned. Secondary Extracurricular
Perryton ISD Return to School Plan 2021-2022 Page | 12 All extracurricular practices and contests will be conducted following safety protocol provided by guidance from PISD, UIL and TEA. Hallways and Lockers Classroom Transitions, Hallways & Lockers ● Students are encouraged to observe and follow school hall traffic flow directions while maintaining social distancing guidelines. ● Where possible, one-way traffic throughout campus corridors will be established. Immunizations Perryton ISD will work with community businesses to offer immunization clinics within the district for ease of access to staff and families. Social, Emotional, and Mental Health Needs Perryton ISD utilizes many avenues to address the social, emotional, and mental health needs of both students and staff. The district currently employs social and emotional learning coordinators and school counselors to assist with these needs. Students, staff members, or families who are struggling may be referred to one or more of these members for assistance. These referrals may be done by a classroom teacher, by a campus counselor, campus administration, or a parent. ESSER III Timeline May 18, 2021 The PISD Board of Trustees was informed of the district’s award of $2,588,142 from the ESSER III Grant. On May 21, 2021 PISD surveyed parents about the top issues facing students during COVID-19 and the issues the district faces when students return in the fall of 2021. June 1, 2021 District Personnel met to revue the survey information and establish priorities for use of the ESSER II Funds and for the return to school.
