The Cambridge Airport site spans the City boundary on the East side and we believe that, including the Marleigh (formerly Wing) development, already underway on Newmarket Road, the whole site can offer the 12,000 homes originally envisaged in the East Cambridge proposals from more than a decade ago, plus some five million square feet of business and commercial space. This, in turn, will provide jobs for the area, necessary to make the site sustainable in the long-term. The development of the site will enable East Cambridge to play a critical role in the growth of Cambridge. Infrastructure The right infrastructure will be essential to delivering such a plan. We will be working closely with the planning authorities and other stakeholders to bring forward a compelling vision for the area, including essential public transport links with an integrated, high-speed public transport connection to the central railway station, the City Centre and other key sites in and around Cambridge. Commitment to the Community Cambridge will always be an integral part of the Marshall business. Remembering It was a significant day for the business when Marshall Motor Sir Michael Marshall Holdings was floated on the London Stock Exchange and became a plc in 2015. It was with great sadness that we learned of the death of Sir Michael Marshall on 27th July, whilst on holiday in Spain. Sir Michael was much greater than can be defined by his role in the company and we have all shared great pride in the many tributes that have poured in for our President who has been described by many as “truly one of Cambridge’s finest” and “a huge force for good”. Sir Michael was a major figure not only in Cambridge, but across the globe, and he was also well known and respected for his many community and charitable activities. In this special tribute we pull together key milestones and images to celebrate Sir Michael’s truly remarkable life. In 1949 Sir Michael obtained his Private Pilot’s Licence. He celebrated the 70th anniversary of his first solo flight with a flight in a Tiger Moth over Cambridge on 30th March 2019. Michael John Marshall was born in Cambridge on 27th January 1932 and was educated at St Faith’s School in the city before attending Eton College. He then went on to complete National Service as a pilot in the Royal Air Force between 1950 and 1952. Sir Michael was a regular sight around the Works. He also served as Chairman of the Cambridge ’99 Rowing Club. In 1955 Sir Michael joined the family business and was appointed Managing Director of Marshall Motor Group in 1963. His appointment as Deputy Chairman of Marshall of Cambridge came in 1965 and in 1990 he was appointed Chairman. In 2016 Sir Michael became President of Marshall of Cambridge. 10&11
