F1 Hybrid variety: Cross between two genetically distinct par-
ent lines chosen for specific traits, using traditional breeding
methods. Hybrids typically show better vigor, uniformity of
size and shape, and disease resistance than open pollinated
varieties.
(OP) Open Pollinated variety: Reproduce naturally via cross-pol-
lination or self-pollination. Open pollinated varieties may lack
the uniformity and disease resistance of hybrids.
Organic: Seeds are grown and produced in organic systems
without the use of synthetic elements.
(U) Untreated: Seeds are grown in conventional systems, but have
no further synthetic elements on the actual seed.
Treated: Seeds are grown under conventional systems and
have a synthetic coating that is brightly colored (red, green,

FALL ORNAMENTALS Halloween is the second largest shopping season of the year and you can capitalize on that by grow- ing and selling Fall Ornamentals. What are Fall Ornamentals? The list includes obvious items such as Pumpkins, Gourds and Ornamental Corn but think about the less obvious crops like Winter Squash, Popcorn, Sunflowers, Corn Stalks and Ornamental Grasses. Plant showy crops like Sunflowers, Ornamental Grasses and Broom corn near your Retail Farm Stand or You Pick area so your customers can make their own bouquets. Sell baskets of mixed gourds and mini ornamental corn. Get creative with your displays and help customers visualize their holiday table or porch.
