Haeremai Welcome from the FREEDOM Institute of Higher Education The FREEDOM Institute of Higher Education is the first private values-based higher education institute established in New Zealand dedicated to supporting learners to achieve qualifications that will accelerate their careers, employability, and empower them to achieve their aspirations. FREEDOM excels in providing applied professional programmes that ‘walk the talk’ delivering the knowledge, skills, values and attitudes in our programme graduate profiles. All programmes have been designed to optimise and accelerate learning by our eminent specialist programme design partner the New Zealand Curriculum Design Institute (NZCDI). The Institute provides education to individuals and people from local, national and international organisations and communities. Faculty are professional educational facilitators available and dedicated to supporting learners to succeed. All are actively engaged in research and contribute to their communities, nation and further a field, professional and social justice related activities. FREEDOM – Learning and Research Philosophies LEARNING PHILOSOPHY The FREEDOM Institute of Higher Education believes high quality learning is: Supported by a coherent philosophy; Theoretically logical; Underpinned by research; Culturally and learner relevant; Valid in practice; Fit for purpose; Interactive; Authentic; Holistic and enjoyable from a learner’s perspective. This philosophy is underpinned by holistic (Durie, 1994), experiential (Kolb, 2001), socio-cultural (Vygotsky, 1978) socio ecological (Bronfenbrenner, 1986), student centred (Rogers, 1989), multiple intelligences (Gardner, 1993) and Treaty of Waitangi research (Bishop & Graham, 1986) theoretical/conceptual and practice-based evidence and scholarly literature (Graham, 2006). THE ABOVE LEARNING PHILOSOPHY IS LIVED IN TWO WAYS: 1. All programmes offered by the Institute are underpinned by work-integrated, work-based, experiential or practice-based learning approaches which support study to work transitions. 2. All learning is facilitated by qualified Educational Facilitators who understand and use the Institute’s effective learning philosophy and unique learning approach. The Educational Facilitation approach used was developed by the New Zealand Curriculum Design Institute and is now available nationally and internationally. Understanding New Zealand Qualifications All FREEDOM programmes are approved and accredited by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA). These qualifications are recognisable in most other countries but especially in the United Kingdom, United States of America, Canada and Australia via an International Qualification recognition system. Formal New Zealand Qualifications are recognised and provided at the following levels.
