They started CMS with the vision of inspiring generations of children to become socially conscious world citizens, committed to the service of humanity. Their motto Jai Jagat has been the school's greeting from the beginning. CMS students are taught the value of Vasudhaiv Kutumbakam, or ‘the Earth is but One Country and Mankind its Citizens'. 1

Joyful Pre-Primary Years GOALS 3Es • Encouragement • Environment • Example of adults With our fun school activities for pre-primary children, learning becomes interesting and enjoyable, and goes beyond textbooks and whiteboards. Carefully tailored school activities lead to the all-round development of children and help them achieve their maximum potential. Pre-primary years in CMS involve playful activities, integration of music, use of appropriate ed-tech, and practices that nurture spontaneity, self- expression, creativity and confidence. The watchword for the teachers is using the language of encouragement. 12
13
Personalized Learning CMS places great emphasis on personalized learning for each child. This determines the pace of learning for every child and helps teachers to optimize the instructional approach for the needs of each learner. Learning activities are made available that are meaningful and relevant to learners. 14
Stimulating Environment Children perform better in an inspiring environment. We create a climate of encouragement to facilitate the all-round development of every child and provide a joyful and peaceful environment. 15
16
A Broad Curriculum CMS focuses on six aspects of learning that provide a comprehensive framework for a child's development at the pre-primary level: Ÿ Personal, social and emotional development Ÿ Communication, language and literacy Ÿ Problem solving, reasoning and numeracy Ÿ Physical development Ÿ Creative development Ÿ Knowledge and understanding of the world 17
Learning with Fun About 15% of the CMS student body is below the age of 6. The school environment is engaging and responsive to the child at each stage of his/her development. In pre-primary years, CMS aims to develop perceptual, motor, cognitive and socio-emotional levels of a child, as the basis for readying him/her for school education, and for life in society. We create a happy environment for social contact with peers, and we deliberately create opportunities for young children to explore and learn through play, dance, music, drama, art, games and sports. We promote the development of creativity over memorization. English is taught through Fitzroy phonics, with spectacular results, with 4 and 5 year olds doing early reading. Learners get some time on computers for colouring and drawing. 18
The daily schedule comprises: Ÿ games and play activities Ÿ movement and relaxation exercises Ÿ outdoor play Ÿ activities ensuring the routine (personal hygiene, taking meals) 19
Creative Arts To encourage creative arts such as theatre (drama) and dance from an early age, CMS provides opportunities with well-trained and experienced teachers at every campus. Dance In energizing dance classes, CMS students are taught various classical dances like Kathak and bharatnatyam, folk dance, as well as western genres like hip-hop, ballet, and jazz. Drama Theatre and drama classes boost confidence in students as they learn public speaking skills, as well as creativity as students innovatively think up ways to decorate sets, make costumes, and get into character for role play. 20
21
Empowering Primary Years GOALS 3Cs • Confidence • Competency in the Core Subjects • Caring and Compassion The Primary Curriculum at CMS is transacted in a joyful environment that empowers primary age children and develops their competencies. We create a stimulating learning environment that both supports individual children and challenges/stretches them to achieve their best. We help children to develop the qualities of hard work, good manners and self-discipline. They come out as confident individuals with a growing sense of the social world around them. 22
23
Holistic Development The aim of primary education in CMS is not only to give children a strong foundation for upper-primary and further levels of education, but also to enable the child to realize his or her potential as a unique individual and to develop as a social being through living and co- operating with others. One important aspect is primary pupils’ assisted engagement with technology. We develop a secure knowledge of computer technology and also an appreciation of its benefits and responsible use. Our smart classrooms are equipped with Interactive White Boards/flat panels with the latest relevant software with video and audio content for effective learning. 24
Experiential Learning The CMS primary curriculum is increasingly based on active learning rather than on passive relay of information by a teacher. Experiential learning offers in-depth study, giving the learner a better understanding of the concepts and also an understanding of the application of the knowledge in the real world around them. CMS seeks to develop critical thinking and problem solving skills in primary age children through project based learning in classes 4 and 5, and the integration of HOTS (Higher Order Thinking Skills) questions in assessments/tests. 25

The school sets rigorous academic standards as it is our desire to help every child to excel and to open their eyes to possibilities that lie ahead of them in the world at large. Our students' success is visible through excellent board results every year. This is based on: • Pupils’ support and motivation by teachers • A healthily competitive environment, including competition with your (past) self • A very high standard of teaching • Enrichment and remedial classes, based on a data-driven diagnosis of each individual learner’s progress and need. • A metacognitive approach – which makes pupils analysts of their own performance Goals - 5Ps Preparation for a Life of Service Pleasing Personality Performance in the Boards Praiseworthy Character Proficiency in English 30

Global Citizenship Education World Unity Prayer Every CMS event begins with a World Unity Prayer Ceremony which teaches the concept of Unity. Children dress up in national costumes of different countries and holding aloft their respective national flags, they pray, one by one, first for unity in the country they are representing, followed by a prayer for unity in the world and finally ending with the words “May Unity Prevail on Earth.” These colorful ceremonies symbolize unity in diversity and foster feelings of brotherhood and unity, the pre-requisites for peace. All Religion Prayer The All-Religion prayer has been an integral part of every CMS event ever since the establishment of the school, in which children recite prayers from all religious scriptures on the same platform, along with the message of unity of religions based on the idea that the source of all religions is ONE God. The generosity of spirit behind the All-Religion prayer has won hearts. In a land riven by communal mistrust, the All-Religion Prayer is nothing short of a revolutionary act — a powerful teacher of the oneness of humankind, irrespective of religious belief. 47

The CMS Difference Junior Youth Empowerment Programme (JYEP) The Junior Youth Empowerment Programme (JYEP) is an international programme adapted by CMS for the empowerment of its junior students (class 6-8). It provides a unique platform to nurture the capacities of junior youth, empowering them to fulfill their potential for initiating individual and social transformation. The programme trains volunteer students from the senior section (classes 9, 10 and 11) to become 'animators' (facilitators) for the junior youth in their own campus (classes 6, 7 and 8). Bonds of friendship and a group identity are formed as the junior youth and their animator go through this process together for three years. The Virtues Project Moral education has been a core part of the CMS philosophy on education since the very beginning, and CMS has sought to bring the most successful elements of moral education from around the world to its students. In the past year, CMS has adopted the globally acclaimed Virtues Project, a set of 5 strategies to be utilized in classrooms to ensure the moral development of children: speaking the language of virtues, recognizing teachable moments, honoring the spirit, companioning, and setting clear boundaries. The Virtues Project began in Canada and has found success in over 100 countries, even being endorsed by the Dalai Lama and the United Nations. CMS is the first school in Lucknow to adopt the Virtues Project and has invested in it wholeheartedly, bringing in expert trainers from the United States for ongoing training and support of teachers. An inspiring transformation has been seen at CMS, in which students are being supported to develop their innate virtues such as generosity, determination, and joyfulness. Child Well-being We at CMS believe that wellbeing is about children being confident, healthy and happy. Children desire to be loved, valued, respected, cared for and included. We feel that wellbeing is also an important element of overall student success. Students cannot achieve academically if they feel unsafe and unhappy. They cannot be expected to reach their full potential if they have mental health issues and if we do not provide the support they need. And they cannot be their best if they are not motivated to adopt a healthy, active lifestyle, both in and outside of school.
