Barclay Manor Kaitlin Hong Tai Manager of Programs Please Re-Register for Virtual Programs We have made some changes on our backend for our virtual programs on Zoom. If you previously registered for one of our virtual programs, please re-register now. The new registration links are included in this newsletter and on our website at wesn.ca/virtual-programs. Zoom automatically and immediately sends you a confirmation email after you register. If you do not see this email in your inbox, please check your junk/spam folder. Please save the joining information included in that confirmation email (either the link or meeting ID and passcode) somewhere so that you can reference it each time you join that program. We recommend writing it down on a piece of paper, bookmarking the link on your web browser, or copying and saving the information into a text document such as Microsoft Word. In the email, the link you want to click appears in blue and underlined. You can choose to ignore adding the program to a calendar. Each week that you want to join a virtual program that you have registered for, join the session with the information from your confirmation email. The information does not change from week to week. If you are registered for more than one virtual program, please note that the joining information will not be the same. You must use the correct information for the particular program. For help with using Zoom, WESN members can book a one-hour appointment with a Technology Coach either held in-person at Barclay Manor or over the phone or by video chat. See pages 14 and 16 for information. There are also many resources available on the Zoom website at zoom.us, on YouTube and on Google. We also have a guidebook with tips on using Zoom on our website: http://wesn.ca/files/2020/09/Using-Zoom_WESN.pdf Calling into Virtual Programs If you do not have a computer, tablet or smartphone, you can still participate in virtual programs hosted on Zoom. Call 778-907-2071 and enter the program’s meeting ID and passcode when prompted. Barclay Manor Emily Lonsdale LinkAGE Social Prescribing Navigator Happy New Year, I am very pleased to formally introduce myself to the WESN community! My name is Emily Lonsdale and I will be the new LinkAge Social Prescribing Navigator working out of the Community Services office. Over the past year I have had the unique opportunity of coordinating and supporting the Life Unlimited Grocery Shopping and Delivery service while completing my graduate program in Gerontology at Simon Fraser University. Before moving to Vancouver to pursue my Masters, I had completed my BA in Psychology from the University of Calgary and spent much of my coursework focusing on areas pertaining to aging and supports for older adults and their caregivers. My passion for supporting older adults was grounded in my childhood spent in a large multi-generational family, meaningful mentorship from my instructors at U of C and SFU, and the growing need for comprehensive and innovative aging supports in Canada. I am very excited by the opportunity to help develop this new area of service provision for WESN, and look forward to building connections with more members of our community! 7
