Batemans Bay Program Term 4 2019 14 October – 13 December
Program News Term 4 As foreshadowed last term, rather than having a newsletter for Term 4 this is a program update for your reference. Fitness For Retirees, returns this term but to a new venue, the Mackay Park Sports Centre, on the other side of the Mackay Park football oval in Batemans Bay. Access to this upstairs venue is via a ramp. The Hanging Rock venue is booked during the term for HSC exams and rather than move backwards and forwards we decided to move the class for the whole term. Good news for the Scribblers, Scribbles Smiles and Sketching will return for six weeks in Term 4, starting 28 October. Bad news for the French Continuing students as this class will not be returning this term, it will be back in Term 1 2020. New Classes for this term (all previously advertised) are: Monday : What Was It Like? An exploration of what it would have been like to have lived in the first three centuries CE and what we can learn from history to help us understand our present time. (Previously advertised as Wednesday) Wednesday: The Trade Wars- What’s Going On. A new discussion group about the very topical Trade Wars. Note new starting date of 23 October and please take particular note of dates and venues so that you don’t end up in the wrong place. The World of the Shining Prince: An exploration of the work of women in Japanese literature from the 10th to 12th centuries. Thursday: The Power of the Myth: A course based on the work of Joseph Campbell, the world’s recognised authority on myth and its role in human society and psyche. Note change of venue on 31 October. Kaleidoscope: Returning Course featuring a variety of speakers on various aspects of science. Friday : The History Forum has an excursion planned for October 25 to the Kembla Grange Motorlife Museum. All interested members are most welcome to attend. Details of courses can be found in the program and online. Enrolments for all new courses are open online and with tutors. Please enrol online if possible, there are detailed instructions on our website, www.bbay.u3anet.org.au. It will only take you a short time but if tutors have to enrol multiple people it can take quite a long time, particularly those with big classes. A courtesy email after you have enrolled is always appreciated. Please note the Course Co-ordinators can not handle enrolments, this is your responsibility. Early enrolment for all new courses is appreciated so that the tutors know if they are viable. You are reminded that our policy is that two absences without an apology means automatic exclusion from the course. This includes people who do not turn up at the beginning of a course without explanation. If you enrol for a course you are expected to make a commitment to attend. If you know that you will can not attend all sessions of a one term course we ask that you do not enrol without discussing it with the tutor. You are also reminded about turning off your mobile phone. It is most distracting for the tutor and other members to have phones ringing and pinging during class. If you must respond to calls or texts please leave the room. We thank all our tutors who keep our program going year after year. We always say that without our tutors there would be no U3A and it certainly is true. If you are interested in running a new course next year please contact Chris on chrisgra52@gmail.com. We wish you all a happy and productive semester, whatever courses you attend. Dianne Grigson and Chris Sweeney Course Coordinators
