Southern Cross UniversityWelcome from Executive Dean,
Faculty of Health
It is my pleasure to introduce Southern Cross University’s Faculty of Health.
We’re here to deliver the healthcare workforce of the future and be part of the workforce
solutions for the region. Our goal is to improve health over the lifespan through the provision
of quality education and regional engagement, whilst working closely with and within our
health community. It is a time of tremendous change, not just with regard to higher education,
but also with regard to the healthcare industry. All governments are beginning to think about
and change how they provide healthcare to the populations they serve, with the key focus on
maintaining health and preventing illness.
Our Faculty offers a range of degrees across many disciplines, including nursing, midwifery
and the allied health areas of osteopathy, occupational therapy, exercise science, clinical
exercise physiology, podiatry, pedorthics, psychological science, speech pathology and
biomedical science. We also offer postgraduate coursework and research degrees as well as
continuing professional education programs.
Nursing is the largest component of the Faculty’s educational portfolio, and our graduates are
held in the highest esteem by employers.
The Professor and Chair of Discipline is a key member of the Faculty’s executive leadership
team, charged with building on the Faculty’s proud record of excellence in teaching and
research, creating a culture of innovation, entrepreneurship, quality and performance. You
will have the opportunity to work within a university that is young, vibrant and aspirational,
with a strong teaching and research profile and a distinctive presence in the higher education
marketplace.
We are committed to advancing research-led teaching that equips our graduates with the
knowledge and skills to enter a rapidly changing workforce. The Faculty’s significant research
record is demonstrated by its achievement of outstanding performance in the Excellence
in Research for Australia (ERA) 2018 ratings, with the Nursing discipline achieving ERA 5
(well above world standard). Our research ambition is big and we aspire to influence global
healthcare, building on our strengths to generate new knowledge and to drive practice
forward into the future.
At the Faculty of Health at Southern Cross University, we connect communities. We are deeply
committed to tackling the issues that are closest to home, and to training of the highest
standard for the professionals our communities need. Many of our students are embedded
in the communities in which they are being trained, and this will make a difference as to
how they contribute. At the same time, we realise our need to be globally relevant and to
contribute on the world stage.
To be part of this, we welcome your interest in this executive role and strongly encourage you
to consider your future as part of the Southern Cross University Health team.
