PEOPLE. PLANET. PROFIT THE 2018 THEME The 2018 PURCO SA Conference and Exhibition aims to challenge and excite participants while delivering exceptional content, strengthening relationships and providing a unique engagement platform for all PEOPLE delegates and their suppliers. The overarching threads of People, Planet and Profit will be brought together to reflect the potential of building a better world, while demonstrating that delivering finacial value and doing good can be complementary parts of every institution and company’s strategy. The triple bottom line programme will deliver implementable new ideas and methods for increasing sustainability through economic prosperity, environmental commitment and social fairness. PEOPLE The PURCO SA Annual Conference has a tradition of helping delegates find renewed vigor to make a positive difference within their institutions. The 2018 programme frames the conversation around sustainable people relationships, with a positive impact on member-member and supplier- buyer engagement. The programme also explores ways in which delegates can incorporate PLANET enterprise development in their organisations. It will encourage conversations to unlock the full potential of buyers to be effective tools for transformation - helping their supplier partners grow while ensuring their institutions thrive. PLANET University procurement, if appropriately directed, has the potential to facilitate social and environmental sustainability, while allowing institutions to effectively meet their needs. PURCO SA’s 2018 Conference will share practical case studies and facilitate conversations to identify how universities and suppliers can develop collaborative, sustainable, eco-friendly procurement processes. PROFIT Financial challenges are a significant consideration for higher education institutions, and consequently their supplier partners. PROFIT The concept of profitability encompasses financial sustainability for higher educational institutions and improved bottom lines for their supplier partners. To help deliver these objectives, the Conference Programme is designed to provide practical, implementable programme content while offering extensive engagement between suppliers and buyers. Among other topics the conference will consider how universities can implement third stream income programmes, including initiatives that complement their enterprise development and sustainability objectives. 4 PURCO SA Annual Conference & Expo | 24-26 October 2018

Lessons from the Vitality programme. Deon Kotze, Head of Research and Development, Discovery Health Discovery’s Vitality programme has achieved global success in improving individual health outcomes while reducing costs. Discovery learnt that people seldom make good choices when it comes to their health - they think in the short term and discount the future. Recognising this, the Vitality programme incentivises people to make better choices that make them healthier. Through a shared value approach that offers rewards and discounts to promote behaviour changes, health outcomes have improved and healthcare costs have come down 25% for those engaged in the model. Technology is a key enabler and the programme makes extensive use of data analytics to understand behaviour and promote change. The objective of this presentation is to share lessons and insights from Vitality, so that delegates can consider whether a shared value, incentivised approach in the higher education procurement sector could improve purchasing outcomes for users while driving reductions in university procurement costs. 10h20 TEA IN THE EXHIBITION HALL Auditorium Breakaway Room A 10h50 Evidence based procurement using data and Insourcing lessons (panel discussion) technology Israel Mogomotsi, Director: Services, University of the Prof Thea de Wet, Director: Centre for Academic Witwatersrand, Venessa Ranjit, Director: Logistical Services, Technologies, University of Johannesburg Tshwane University of Technology (President of HEFMA) Connie Tshimangadzo, Head of Operations: Residences, University of Johannesburg What are the lessons learned from the insourcing programmes taking place in our universities?
