Welcome A warm welcome to the 14th International Congress on Complementary Medicine Research! We very much look forward to hosting you all in the beautiful city of Brisbane over the next few days. As Co-Chairs of this ICCMR we have been extremely impressed with the quality and focus of the submitted abstracts and we are confident you will find the presentations interesting and stimulating. The theme for this year’s event is ‘Pathways and Partnerships’ – bridging the gap between practice and research as well as clinician and researcher. Partnerships - multi-disciplinary perspectives and collaborations involving a wide range of contributors - are at the heart of all good research. Yet, successful health and medical research also needs to move a step further providing insights that are of direct relevance and benefit to a whole host of co- producers and stakeholders including participants, providers, health care users and/or wider communities. Both established and fast emerging complex health challenges are often global in scope and research in our topic has a role to play in both understanding and addressing such problems – but this can only be achieved, in part, through generating research outcomes that are rigorous and speak to those invested in the routine grass-roots of everyday health behaviour and care. 4
Indeed, the diverse range of research on offer at the 14th ICCMR certainly attests to a global-scale vision that has the potential to reach out to those best positioned for direct change. We have presenters from over 30 countries introducing the latest work across many fields, disciplines and topics including a strong focus on translation and implementation, health policy and health systems, multi- disciplinary collaborations and the development of practice- based research questions and insights. The mix and quality of this year’s program reflects the growing confidence and innovation within the complementary medicine research field and we are sure the 14th ICCMR will inspire, challenge and energise you all (practitioners and researchers alike) to continue our collective pursuit of critical, rigorous and impactful investigation that can lead to better health and health care for all. Welcome once again – enjoy Brisbane and the 14th ICCMR Warm regards Dr Amie Steel Distinguished Professor Jon Adams Co-Chairs, Organising Committee 14th ICCMR 5
