Senate Leadership
Republicans have maintained majority control in the U.S. Senate, picking up 2 additional seats. As a party, Senate
Republicans have a self-imposed term limit of six years for leadership positions, which is not imposed on the position of
party leader. Republican Senate Whip John Cornyn (TX) has been term limited out of his former leadership while others
have moved up in leadership. In the Senate Democratic Caucus, all the current Senators in leadership positions are
returning for the 116th Congress.
