CLASS REGISTRATION Programs are filled on a first-pay, first-served general information basis, preregistration by the published deadline is required. teen and adult classes EMPTY BOWLS A community project, co-sponsored by the Aberdeen Area Arts Council, and the Aberdeen Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department that combines the creative arts and education to work on a social problem - Hunger. Ceramic bowls are created by local community members, consisting of students, families, teachers and artists. Guests attending the event make a donation and choose a bowl as a reminder of the event and of the fact that hunger exists, even here in Aberdeen. All funds support area programs, including the Salvation Army, Safe Harbor, and other food banks and local organizations that address hunger issues through direct service and education/ ARCC hours, Sept. 8, 2020–May 1, 2021: Mon.–Thurs.: 8:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m. Fri.: 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. awareness programs. glasswork GLASSWORK DEMONSTRATIONS Caleb Crosby has been lampworking and working with soft glass, for nearly twenty years. Join Caleb on Thursday evenings as he demonstrates required skills to safely manipulate clear and colored glass with a torch. Ages 18 and up. Dates: Thursdays, September 10, 17, 24, October 29, November 19 Times: 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. INTRODUCTION TO GLASSWORK Join Caleb on Thursday evenings as he teaches required skills to safely manipulate clear and colored glass with a torch. You will learn how to safely make pendants and marbles. Ages 18 and up. Each student will have a loom to set up and work on. Classes range from Beginning Weaving; Advanced Beginning Weaving; to Individual Study; Beginning students will weave a small hand towel. Advanced Beginning Students will weave a small table runner. Individual Study projects depend on what the student wishes to learn and weave. There is a material fee of $20 or more depending on project chosen payable to the instructor. The ARCC has 15 looms available for students but each session is limited to 4 students. Ages 18 and up. Fees include use of a loom not being used for classes and any of the ARCC’s weaving equipment in the studio. The weaving studio will be closed to open studio participants when ARCC classes are scheduled and on the following dates: October 12, November 11, November 26, November 27, and November 28. Open weaving studio participants MUST schedule an appointment for an initial orientation prior to working in the studio. Participants will also have to provide their own supplies which may include yarn, scissors, and any other supplies necessary to complete their project. No instruction will be available during open studio time. Dates: October 7 – December 18 Fee: $50.00 QUILT GUILDS The Aberdeen Quilt Guild meets the third Thursday of the month at 1:30 p.m. at the ARCC. The Candlelight Quilt Guild meets the fourth Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m. The meetings are open to anyone interested in quilting. Local quilters meet to share old and new techniques in cutting, piecing, color selections, and quilting by hand or machine. NOTIFY ME Demonstrations held monthly.
