We are nearly there, it is now time for the sprint finish! Remember, you are racing against every other Year 11 in the country.
A bank of past exam papers can be found on Google Classroom – just log in and enter this code; hiqswn You can also find paper copies in the racks in the maths corridors or in the LRC.
PPE Analysis Each student has been issued with a detailed analysis of how they did in the recent exams and which topics need more revision. This will only have an impact if it is acted on. We recommend two websites – Hegarty Maths and Method Maths.
Hegarty Maths is great for getting help as it contains over 500 video tutorials with quizzes to check your understanding. https://hegartymaths.com/ To log in click on ‘student login’, enter the information required and use the password you set up when you first logged in. If required, click the ‘request a password reset’ button.
Method Maths contains online exam papers and gives access to over 10 years worth of exam questions – perfect for working on exam technique. https://www.methodmaths.com Centre ID: worle Username: [normal network username] Password: hexagon
Walking Talking Mocks Over the next term and a bit, all students will take part in Walking Talking Mocks. These work on the same principal as learning your spellings at primary school; a teacher will do the exam at the front of the hall on the big screen, students will watch and take notes. The teacher will discuss exam technique and how to collect method marks throughout. The students will then sit exactly the same paper under exam conditions at a point in the near future. These really do work and are regularly identified by previous Year 11 students as being the most useful part of the revision programme.
Breakfast Revision From 8am on the morning of each exam breakfast will be available in the restaurant. Maths teachers will be circulating as well and this is a chance for students to calm any nerves they may have. From 8.20am students will go to their normal maths classroom for a final preparation session. It should be noted that this is not the time to be asking complex questions; the session will be all about waking brains up (all maths exams are first things in the morning) and reminding students of key things to remember.
Easter School Easter School is by invitation only – this year it will run on Monday 8th and Tuesday 9th April. These days will provide an opportunity to do some collective revision that will hopefully ease the pressure on students having to do it all on their own.
Half Term Revision Half term falls between Paper 1 and Paper 2. On Friday 31st May we will run a revision session. Foundation tier will be from 10am-12pm and Higher will be from 12.30-2.30pm. This will be a good opportunity to do some work on the topics that did not appear on Paper 1.
Saturday Revision Whilst topics can appear on more than one paper, generally they don’t. This means that by the time Paper 1 and 2 have been completed, we can really narrow down what we would expect to feature on Paper 3. On Saturday 8th June we will run a Walking Talking Mock of a ‘Predicted Paper 3’. Foundation will be 10am-12pm and Higher will be 12.30-2.30pm. This session is crucial; it is the closest thing you will get to seeing the exam paper beforehand. This session will give you a big advantage over those students who do not attend.
