We use numeracy every day in many different areas of our lives. Our confidence and ability with numbers impacts us financially, socially, and professionally. It even affects our health and wellbeing as poor numeracy can affect confidence and self- esteem. To promote the importance of numeracy, we have provided every HGS student with a login to Mathletics. Mathletics is a website that allows students to develop their numerical fluency. At school, students will be playing Live Mathletics once a week in form-time to practise their skills and compete against other students at a level suitable for them. Mathletics can also be used at home as a resource to practise any area of Maths that a student feels they are struggling with. We often get asked by parents if there is anything extra that their child can do to support their Maths and we think Mathletics is an excellent resource that meets that need. We do hope that you’ll support us in promoting numeracy with your child whether it is asking them how they’re getting on in Maths, encouraging them to have a play on Mathletics, or even just remembering to speak positively about Maths. It will all make a difference. iPad Repairs As we get further into the school year, please can we remind parents/carers to make sure that iPad repair forms are accompanied by the SCOPay.com payment receipt. Without this, iPads will unfortunately not be accepted for repair. If you have any queries about the process, please contact the school and we will be more than happy to help. Parent Bulletin Week Beginning: Monday 11 February 2019 Week A PTA News Back to top Burns’ Night The skirl of pipes welcomed over 100 guests to the 26 th Burns Night for an evening of fun and frolics. The traditional welcome to The Haggis was piped in by Mr Ed Arnold and greeted by Mr Ken Weston, who, with a flourish, gave his usual faultless Address. Further entertainment was added by the truly beautiful voices of Miss Grace Brennan and Miss Phoebe Kyriakopoulos. The evening continued with dancing/skirmishing, and music supplied by Knotted Chord who once again provided a lively, tuneful conclusion to the event. None of this would have been possible had it not been for the dedication and enthusiasm of parents who volunteered to help. Their hard work and enterprise were immeasurable when you saw the hall decked out in all its glory. The evening was to not only celebrate the Bard but to raise money for portable floodlights to enable more students to carry on with practices in the winter months. It is so nice to see local businesses supporting our school through generously sponsoring the event and donating raffle prizes. Mr Mckay @HarrogateGS @6thformhgs @HGS_SLT
