It was a case of fourth time lucky in a provincial feature for Dyna Hunter and trainer Steve Collins, with the son of 2014 Melbourne Cup hero Dyna Villa having run second in the Ballarat Cup and fourth in the Healesville Cup. He was also scratched from the Geelong Gold Cup due to injury after winning his heat in the best time of the night. Dyna Hunter came out running to lead youngster Jebrynah ($10.20) and Big Flood and forged clear turning for home as he defeated the brave Jebrynah, which was having just his eleventh start, by 2.46 lengths in 25.54sec. “Box eight is the perfect draw for him because he isn’t always the best out of the boxes,” said Jake Collins, son of trainer Steve. “To win a country cup after being beaten on the line in the Ballarat Cup made this win that much more special!" The win was a credit to the Collins family after their newly- crowned Warragul Cup victor suffered a serious shoulder injury at just his second start, only one week short of one year ago. “It was a fantastic achievement from mum and dad,” Jake said. “From the first day he came to our kennels I was drawn to his fruity personality. Pippa was metaphorically bitten by the greyhound bug when she visited relative Linda Britton’s kennels in WA, where she took on many vital roles which most importantly included naming every puppy born on the property. Please visit grv.org.au for all the latest GRV news When GAP received a call from an owner who could no longer home his elderly greyhounds, Rose was the one who welcomed Tommy (11) and Zeta (14) into her Mooroolbark home back in October. She saw that they were senior dogs who wouldn’t be comfortable in a kennel environment, and she felt compelled to foster the inseparable golden oldies. “It’s been pretty fun having them around,” Rose said. “They are really opposite in their personalities. Tommy is bubbly and likes going up to people. Zeta is more reserved being the old girl that she is. Considering it was a huge move for them, they’ve handled it quite well and it’s good to see them evolve and come out of their shells.” In addition to her work at GRV, Rose has been fostering greyhounds on and off since 2010. “It’s quite unusual to have dogs for so long,” she said regarding Tommy and Zeta. “Foster care is usually three to four weeks, but even in three weeks, you see a lot of changes in greyhounds. GAP was aiming to adopt the duo into the same house during the recent Seymour Adoption Weekend. While the event was a big success and a record number of greyhounds found homes, sadly Tommy and Zeta were some of the few remaining at the end of the event. Since they weren’t adopted, Rose continues to provide foster care for these lovely dogs and GAP has put out a special request to its community to help these two find a home. GAP have received a couple of promising offers and have their fingers crossed that Tommy and Zeta will be in a new home 16 soon.
