In the pages of our newsletter, you’ll meet just a few of Denise Fitzgerald Chief Executive, Temple Street Foundation A huge thank-you to Christmas FM listeners We at Temple Street were thrilled to be chosen by Christmas FM to be their charity partner for the 2018 festive season. The station and its kind listeners went to amazing lengths in support of our little patients, raising a phenomenal €404,551. Over half of this sum – €215,000 – was raised in a single day. We are truly overwhelmed by the amount of love and support we received from people all over the country. The donations raised by Christmas FM listeners have helped purchase six new incubators and a critical-care ventilator for fragile babies and children in our hospital. On behalf of the staff, families and patients in Temple Street, we would like to thank the team in Christmas FM as well as each and every person who donated to support the hospital over the festive season.

Medical Equipment In the last year, you have helped to €1,657,725 raise an incredible €5.1 million for Redevelopment and essential services and equipment new service development in our special hospital. These funds are literally a life-line for €521,477 over 147,000 sick children who visit Patient & Parental Temple Street every year. Because of your on-going wonderful support, we’ve been able to purchase eight new dialysis machines for the hospital, including new mobile devices for home dialysis, replacing older equipment and increasing the number of dialysis machines available at Temple Street for children who need them. None of this would be possible without you.

Funds were raised from a wide variety of activities which included in-store cake sales to the sale of the hugely popular Cedric teddy bear. The support received by Tesco staff and their customers has helped to provide cutting-edge paediatric equipment where it is needed most, right across the hospital in our theatres, wards, laboratories and Intensive Care Unit. “Thank you to each and every one of you for saving my son’s life.” Little Calum Emmett’s Temple Street journey began in February when he became unwell and his worried mum Jennifer rushed him to Temple Street. Calum was diagnosed with pneumonia and sepsis and needed an operation to drain the fluid that had built up in his lungs. Jennifer says, “My poor little boy was lifeless, lying in a hospital bed after losing so much weight due to being so sick. “The Temple Street community is a very special one.” Most children who come to Temple Street stay just a few days or weeks. But for some children, Temple Street becomes a home from home for all their childhood. Eoghan Clonan from Booterstown is in Transition Year and has been attending Temple Street for the past sixteen years, having been diagnosed with a rare neuromuscular condition Pelizaeus Merzbacher Disease (PMD) when he was just 18-months-old. His dad Tom says, “The staff in Temple Street have shown Eoghan – and all of our family – excellent care and love over all of these years. The Temple Street community is a very special one.” Eoghan’s biggest challenge. Last September, Eoghan faced one of his biggest challenges: major spinal surgery to correct his spine and to relieve the pressure of scoliosis on his heart Eoghan with his dad Tom - and and lungs. assistance dog Duke - meeting President Michael D Higgins. Thank you! Route 66 bikers raise €395,000! Huge congratulations to our amazing Route 66 Motorcycle Team who raised a massive €395,000 during their epic journey across the USA. Since it began, the Temple Street Route 66 challenge has raised almost €3 million to help redevelop wards and purchase cutting-edge paediatric equipment in Temple Street. “ Without Temple Street and all the people who help, I probably wouldn’t be here.” When her daughter Robyn was a few weeks old, mum Siobhan looked at her and could tell straight away something wasn’t right. “She was a funny colour,” she recalls. “Over a period of a few hours, she changed – her lips were going blue. So I drove her straight down to Temple Street. I’ll never forget that drive as long as I live. Every traffic light I was looking to make sure she was still breathing.” Eventually, Robyn was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis. Meet Robyn “It was so scary,” says Siobhan, whose best friend died “Growing up, as I got older, I started of cystic fibrosis when she was a girl. “But the doctors to feel different to the other children. were so great. “Their compassion and the standards of care were so incredible.” When ten-month old Brooke became seriously ill with Influenza A she was rushed to Temple Street for emergency treatment. But as she left Temple Street, she saw newly arriving parents and desperately wanted to do what she could to make sure they could get the same great care that she and Brooke had received. That’s why Allison was one of the amazing people who hosted a Great Irish Bake for Temple Street this year and raised a phenomenal €1,869. You’re a Star Baker! On Friday, 5th April, an incredible 1,200 Great Irish Bake for Temple Street parties were held up and down the country! This year, our brave little bakers were joined by broadcaster and mum Karen Koster as well as our sponsors Gem.
