Welcome Thank you for entering the Round the Island Race 2019 I would like to extend a very warm welcome to you all for the 2019 Round the Island Race organised by the Island Sailing Club. We are delighted that Raymarine, MS Amlin, Helly Hansen and Yachts & Yachting are continuing as Race Partners, and we thank them for their ongoing support. We are also very excited about a major change to our onshore activities for the Race Weekend. This year the Island Sailing Club has decided to have a dedicated RIR Race Village on The Parade in Cowes, with live music, food stalls, children’s entertainment, a beer tent, gin bar and stalls to look around. The Village will open at lunchtime on Friday and will host the popular Raymarine Weather Briefing at 1800 that evening on the Helly Hansen stage. The briefing will be streamed live online, but those attending in person will be able to enter a competition to win £1300 of Raymarine kit! The prize giving will also take place on the stage at 1200 on Sunday 30th June, and the Village will be a great vantage point for families and supporters to watch the starts on Race day whilst enjoying breakfast, and then see them all come home later in the day with a glass of Birra Moretti or a G&T. Entry is free and anyone who visits over the Race Weekend will be able to enter a competition to win some fantastic prizes provided by our Race Partners. Helly Hansen will again be having RNLI volunteers performing lifejacket safety checks at their stand on The Parade between 1500 and 1900 on Friday afternoon and will be running a competition exclusively for people who bring their life jackets to the stand. Please remember to download the Onboard Race Pack which contains all the documentation you will need to have on board the boat for the Race. In addition to the Sailing Instructions it contains lots of helpful general information together with instructions for declaring by text message, a Guide to the Tracking App and a Layman’s Guide to the Racing Rules. Your fleet flag, together with your start time and a reminder as to which finishing line you should cross will be sent to you by post. Declarations can only be done by text message however our helpful Office Staff at the Island Sailing Club will be happy to help anyone who experiences difficulties either in person or by telephone on 01983 296621. Please remember that although this is a fun day on the water, it is also a serious race held under the Racing Rules of Sailing and we do expect you to race safely and to be courteous to everyone on the water that day, whether racing or not. Yours sincerely, Dave Atkinson Commodore 2
